I was already against the recasting, because talented as Hale may be, I don't like the big four taking every single gaming starring role. The other three being Nolan North, Troy Baker and Laura Bailey, as I'm sure you all can assume.

I find Hale very over rated especially in regards to Mass Effect.

Think the first time I heard Troy Baker was in Persona 4 and loved Kanji. Sick of hearing his voice now and it's always so obviously Troy Baker
Yuri Lowenthal is the other one. All I ever hear is generic anime voice

What's the normal going rate for something like that? My partner did some background voices for a big budget game. It took over a year to be paid, but she got paid 4k. She wasn't a lead character, or have any major dialogue, but she provided a wide range of voices and sounds. |

Yeah no way Hale was a cheaper option for them. It’s an ‘I don’t actually want to work with you’ amount of money. I would guess that they want to work with Hale but the original VA had a three game contract or something. I don’t think it’s about Hale being cheaper, it’s about insulting the other lady until she fucks off. The other half works with VAs and 4K is what you would pay an Alison Hammond for like 30 seconds worth of voiceover on a tampon advert. |

Yeah platinum claimed it was to do with scheduling conflicts which the actress has said was BS.

Yeah, difficult to know who to believe here.
The initial offer amount hasn't been mentioned. People are assuming it was lower, but could also be that it was a perfectly reasonable offer that she said no to and demanded more, so they told her to fuck off with the $4k offer.
She's not exactly a prolific actress if you check her IMDB history, so might have a bad rep for being a nightmare to work with.
Or they could be totally fucking her over... Who knows.

I believe she was non union as opposed to Hale, so it's around 250 dollars an hour. I mean it's some bullshit especially as it's the final offer that she got.

This would mean more if she weren't one of the most in-demand voice actors around. It's like when Kevin Spacey did that one Call of Duty and when questions, Nolan North and Troy Baker said "it's fine, everybody's eating." No, Y'ALL eating.

Frankly I don't think she needs to say anything, but she was paired into saying something by ah the Taylor fans clogging up her Twitter m
I don't really have much stake in this but I'm more of the school of thought that Taylor is difficult to work with, and I don't really have much sympathy for her. Nobody is really coming out of this looking good though.

Pretty much just saying what happened has nothing to do with her and not much more she can say. If she was offered the job after what happened then why shouldn't she take it? If she said no then they'd have just got someone else.

(Not saying Hale isn't talented, but I think it's why she, and and other "popular" voice actors end up so prolific)

I'm not really following this story, but why would Hale know what had happened? Likely she just would have been approached for the part without the backstory. If she had of asked why the original VA wasn't doing it (which she probably wouldn't) the answer would have just been along the lines of she didn't want to do it rather than "well, we tried to fuck her over by offering £4k."
If she did know the backstory (assuming it is true), than she certainly should not have taken it. It isn't exactly like she is short of offers.

In regards to voice acting, it can be weeks or months between jobs and thats before you know when you're likely to be paid. It doesn't consider prep time, or travel, or booking time off from other work, cancelling prior arrangements or being called back in on short notice for rewrites. Then you have agency fees, travel costs and some studios expect you to have your own equipment for remote work if needed. It seems like a tough gig at the best of times. A load of fun, but not nearly as profitable as you might think. |
