Done the cunt! Other than that PS2 era design, wonderful game and a massive improvement on Remake.
It is weird in a way that there are so many things that are so antiquated, stupid shit like if Cloud is standing up you can't access the menu and it pauses the game instead. Noticed that in a lot of Square games where in terms of functionality they are stuck around 2010, FFXVI being another that is basically a game from the PS3 era but looks nice at points.
Anyway, overall twas very enjoyable and glad I played it. Now onto Grandia!

You don't have to restart from the first phase, you can just redo the final one. It took me a few goes.
That's one of the few things the game gets really wrong, I've seen people online making the mistake of going back to a checkpoint, often losing a lot of progress. It's borderline inexplicable - I understand the desire to prevent people from getting into an unwinnable situation and letting them go back to a predetermined point but they don't make it clear enough and present it far too obviously when most of the time a player just wants to try again.

It's actually quite simple. Do you want to:
Restart from before current battle
Restart current battle
Restart from checkpoint
Resume
Retry battle
Reload from before checkpoint
Restart fight from current checkpoint
Check points from current battle
Point battle at current check
Reload previous save
Rename your character
Register for a new account
Quit and snap the fucking disc in half

For how much I have been enjoying this, it seems I have reached the stage now where the game has turned into a boss rush mode. Annoys me when games do that. Especially if it injects a couple of difficulty spikes in there to go with it.

Anyone here going for (or got) the platinum trophy? I'm working my way towards it slowly, have done all the hard mini games without too much trouble, but what I'm reading about the brutal/legendary combat simulator challenges does not sound fun...

Probably not. I have had to knock it down to easy to finish it. I don’t think I got the patience for hard mode (is that a trophy?). I was getting through most of the fights I was trying (in the main story) on normal but I was a bit fed up having to redo several of them again as piles on the bosses in the last quarter of the game. It was, without trying to spoil it, the last boss in chapter 12 that kinda of broke me. I just wanted to experience the story and knocked it down ton easy. Might go back to it in a harder mode and explore the combat a bit more. Anyway, on chapter 14 now. Should finish the game this evening. I really enjoyed chapter 13. Just at a time I was starting to get a little frustrated with the game. Guess it helps knocking it down to easy just before hand 😂

He was the hardest boss of the game for me, massively frustrating. The end boss was a doddle in comparison. Finished Glide de Chocobo and Desert Rush on hard last night. Both really fun and well designed mini-games I thought, though I know some people hated the gliding bit. You actually have to pull off a little trick to get the perfect score on the third stage that's not very well signposted. But once you know the trick it's pretty easy.

Gliding has two main problems, first being the terrible camera and second being that it's not clear whether you've dived enough to get the lift up again.
I don't think I'm much of a fan of these gliding type games though, the one in Rise of the Ronin isn't really doing it for me, as much as I like the shooting one and the yabusame.
