Yes - once you complete the standard 4, then each has a new one open (Hard Mode). Its the only way to get 100% in Junon

Blimey, missed that. Pretty sure i filled in all the area completion slots on the progress bar Go check. You won’t have! And you need it to get the overall green tick for the region (along with buying every single materia on offer fro Chadley)

All the slots are filled in, but yeah I see there’s some extra protorelic stuff. I assumed the slot bar was your progress % and there were just some optional bits like combat assignments as an added extra

Either way - have you had a go at them?

Finally got round to starting this over the last week. Currently going through mythril mines, so very early doors. Just mainly switching between characters trying to get used to their abilities etc. a lot to take in but it’s starting to get its claws in me.

Ending discussion. First of all the game is fantastic, I love it, but all it's good bits are a given at this point so it's easier just to go right in and start nitpicking.
So I know we don't know the full story yet, as it's another cliffhanger in the same vein as part 1. But I think that actually represents a problem this time.
With the part 1 ending, unlike some people I was basically on board - I loved that it made the story slightly unpredictable. I'm documented on here saying I thought it was primarily a way to get you unsure about Aerith's fate and therefore reinvigorate its impact when they go ahead and do it. And I guess I was half right - I for one felt like I couldn't call it right until the end and I honest to God started shaking as the moment approached. It would have been a real gut punch for it to happen again anyway because 'fate' or whatever. That's some damn good work for what is ostensibly a remake to breathe new life (heh) into a moment that is basically a trope at this point.
But if you're reading this (I hope) you already know what happens. It's more ambiguous weirdness - even more so than the first game I'd argue. People will be debating the meaning behind the ending for years now, which is fun I guess, but I really, really think that particular moment needed clarity.
In the original her death comes out of nowhere. It's quick, brutal and devastating. Does the remake have to do the exact same thing? No it doesn't, but I can't help but feel like her 'death' probably should still be a shocking moment rather than a confusing one. I mean it would seem she is basically dead to everyone other than Cloud right, and has left the party in all timelines. I just don't see the point.
Actually, they could have killed her off as normal, you beat the boss, everyone's freaking out and in mourning, and then *gasp* she's still there at the end but only Cloud can see her. And then they could have still proceeded with whatever it is they have in mind. I think it's specifically the fact that you don't know what's happening even as you're watching it due to more timeline stuff that bothered me. It should have been a twist IMO.
They obviously think they will have this all cleared up by the third game and I don't doubt they will. As with part 1, they have successfully made it into an unpredictable take on the original which is great. But unlike part 1 where I was more accepting of the ending, and the whisper stuff as a means to an end, this one now has a tangible negative in that it has clouded what should be an iconic moment. Also unlike part 1, I'm less certain that part 3 will still follow the same major plot points, which concerns me. I'm less able to see how this proceeds without some major changes and weirdness. The only redeeming factor there is that that's what everyone said about part 1.

In summary, I guess I conclude that the metaverse stuff is officially a net negative now. I can't imagine how convoluted the plot must feel to a newcomer. The part 1 ending I was personally fine with, as that part of the original didn't really have anything going on. But it feels like this time we've been robbed of an important moment and it was done in peak Tetsuya Nomura overcomplicated style. Someone needs to tell that guy "less is more". People will be tempted to say that everything good about the plot is from the original, which has a grain of truth to it, but a lot of their other embellishments were really good IMO, such as the Gi stuff, the ferry ship, Cait Sith and Yuffie getting way more character development. Worth reiterating that this is just internet fanboy bitching. The game is just sublime other than this but where's the fun in debating that

In the moment, I was most annoyed that they had dispensed with the actual burial scene. But I agree, the multiverse stuff made it way more complicated than it needed to be an diluted what should have been an impactful moment. I did like the whole thing about the true White Materia being in the other world, and Aerith being able to hand it off before the version of Sephiroth that is able to traverse the worlds got to her. But Aerith effectively being a ghost only Cloud can see is a weird element. My working theory is that they want her to deliver the final line in each game, but there are better ways to handle that.

Story stuff is not Nomura, it's Nojima. You know, the guy who came up with the blitzball landmine.

It's just... well for example I not long ago watched a video of a first time player playing the OG game and being absolutely distraught over that moment (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUzW91zQiwc). I just can't imagine anything like the same reaction over this. Just confusion. But anyway, it's hardly put me off what is an excellent game and a remarkable return to form for FF. uiruki Haha I'd never read that before: What the fuck

Getting an A on that fifth piano piece seems utterly impossible. Getting my misses to help by doing the left stick, but she's not a gamer so even that's not helping much. She did say she'd keep trying, bless her.

I felt so happy with the piano pieces. Right up until I got to the 3rd one and it kicked me in the arse repeatedly. It only got worse from there. I don't think A rank on all of them is something I'll ever get done!

On the piano, it’s much easier when you realise it’s nowhere near as strict about the directions as you think. Also you’ll see little shadow notes - that’s ones where the game plays them for you even though they’re part of the main melody.
As long as you keep in time you’ll be fine. I got A’s all around first time out, usually one or two notes from a perfect run.

I think I'm parking Rebirth for the time being. Maybe it's my current mindset of LOUD NOISES, but it feels like there's just way too much going on for my fragile old man head.

I just feel like I want to kick on with the story beats, but then also there's mini-games that I've enjoyed, and I probably need to level up materia too.

I strongly feel with this game that unless you are really enjoying one of the minigames you shouldn't put yourself through trying to ace every one

Dunno about in English, but Johnny's voice actor in Japanese is the same as Rusty from Armored Core 6 so I suspect that's getting people to do more stuff for him than otherwise.

Watched the ending again last night on YouTube. I maintain that on the whole, that moment should have been straightforward, and not confusing. But watching it a second time where you have a better idea of what's coming improves it a bit, or at least it did for me.
Anyway Cloud is clearly completely fucking deranged at this point. It's actually desperately sad that he doesn't know / can't accept that she has died. I think it's teasing that some, perhaps all of this supposed timeline stuff is actually just Jenova messing around in Cloud's broken mind?
