Got to a point where I thought things would start wrapping up. Instead the game is like "Yo dawg the world has updated and there are new quests and side activities to do everywhere. Oh, and why not hunt for pirate treasure too!" I am 70 hours in!
Anyway, it's great to have the full band back together finally, even if two of them aren't playable yet. Apparently people aren't keen on Cid's voice? Seems fine to me, I guess I maybe imagined it a little gruffer.

That pirate stuff doesn’t take too long FYI.
I haven’t figured out what the point of the reward is

Cid as a whole has been toned down IMO, although I’m assuming the next game is his time to shine.

Cid With the ommission of Rocket Town, and moving Palmer's boss fight to Corel desert, I think they will handled Cid's backstory as and when you need to go and do the Huge (Magna?) Materia quest in part 3. Which may make his story land a lot better since the first encounter you have with him is him being completely awful to Shera.

Approaching 38 hours in, have done absolutely everything available so far up to and into chapter 9 so now heading into the next main area.
I thought Remake was a good game but a solid 7 rather than anything spectacular, this game has absolutely got me though, incredible game. Can't believe it's almost been 40 hours, flown by.

I am massively slow then. Done everyhing (including winning the parade and winning the queens blood tournament). I am still on the Cintra-8 and around 55 hours.

Over 100 hours in and just got a glitch so I can't complete what I believe is the final Corel region side mission.
Hope Square release a bug fix for it, it's driving me bloody crazy seeing it not ticked off.

I see the patch has been out for a couple of days now , anyone happier with performance mode? I had no issues with it but I understand there is a blur and sharp sub mode added to performance mode.

Because that gets put on hold and you apparently return to complete it later.

Need to beat his hi-score on g-bike but I'd already did it and the game doesn't recognise it that.

This game is so goofy. I just been into a very specialised bar in Junon. haha.
I felt this after the first game as well, but it feels like the development team are huge fans of the Yakuza games and taken a few notes on them. They taken not just the way the cutscenes etc are directed and even written but just how fun, random and goofy there are. Good stuff.

Oh yeah massive Yakuza influence. And like you say, borrowed from it's sense of fun too, which works perfectly with FFVII's world. Japanese games can be great at not taking themselves too seriously and modern FF seemed to have forgotten that for the longest time (probably trying not to put off the western edge lords). I really think we have Yakuza to thank for showing the world that it's still OK to be unapologetically a video game
I'm currently playing Horizon FW for the first time and while it's great and I'm not very far in I'm already missing the sense of fun that this had. I feel like my tastes have shifted somewhat and it almost feels dumb that a game about beating up robot dinosaurs with a stick is trying so hard to be dramatic
Yeah I've missed this since I finished it. I can think of no higher compliment that after 100 odd hours I've still not had enough

To be fair a lot of the silliness was also in the original. I'm glad they preserved it here, they could have easily cut a lot out.

Finished last night, some thoughts: It took me a second playthrough of FFVII Remake to get on board with the whisper stuff but I eventually came around to the idea that it was actually quite good. Rebirth effectively played out the way I thought it would with this in mind; all the key locales and events of FFVII being played out lovingly remade, but heavily embellished in places owing to the "changing of fate".
I think the final scene was really the moment that needed to be completely clear cut but it leaves me feeling as though I can't fully judge this game until I see how the events of the next one play out. If Aerith has just been killed as normal and the timeline goofiness is just a combination of Cloud's broken psyche and MGS Lifestream Nanomachines then I think it's going to be extremely disappointing that the weight of the death scene wasn't fully dealt in Rebirth. Cloud reconciling events of the past and shedding Sephiroth's influence in Mideel is an expected and predictable story beat and I really don't think "OMG, Aerith actually DID get stabbed!" and a flashback to the real version of her death is really going to add anything to the 'Cloud's gone barmy' arc.
The other scenario is seemingly that the timelines genuinely split when Cloud deflected Sephiroth's sword away, and I think this is the one that is now the most exciting idea to me. We literally fought against a physical manifestation of Fate at the end of FFVII, making it seem like this trilogy is a meta sequel rather than a remake. If it was just a giant red herring used to make Aerith's death surprising a second time around then I dunno, that just feels a little bit of a flat way of dealing with the Pandora's Box they opened after the first game.
Obviously option B comes with its own set of risks. Multiple timelines are rarely ever done well. I just feel as though effectively copying the ending of Lost probably isn't the most satisfying way of realising the potential they created at the end of FFVII: Remake. 70 hours played, still got some side stuff to go back to do and regardless of how the story plays out or how I feel about it when it concludes, I don't think any game will recreate a world as well as this ever again. I enjoyed every second of it.

140 hours and done.
Absolutely incredible, think the ending landed better for me than Remake, I could just about get my head around this one whereas I was confused by the last hour of the first game until I read up on what it all means.
I've always been a fan of the turn based battle system but they really did nail the combat in this one it was the perfect combination of action and strategy, it also highlights how simplistic FF16's combat was, to me at least.
Wanted to get the platinum but think it'll be too much of a ballache, can't believe we've probably got to wait until PS6 before we see the final game.

Dare we hope that it may not be as long until the next one? They must have covered a lot of the ground work now after building the first two

I don't think they'll be doing any significant engine upgrades for Part 3, and yeah, outside more world regions (Northern continent / Mideel / Wutai), and tweaks / modifications to existing ones, they can largely roll with what they have already built.

I do wonder how they are going to tackle the areas we've not seen yet. The towns and locations we've yet to see, are probably the most bare bones and weakest parts of the original as locations and the party absolutely blitzes through the vast majority of the northern continent.
It's going to be extremely difficult to replicate the same feelings Rebirth brought on almost constantly. I always felt that stretch from the start of the game up until around Nibelheim was the best part of the original game. The revisited areas are probably going to have to do a lot of heavy lifting.

I've not beaten the game, far farrr from it, but can envision at what point in the original game will be the ending here. With that in mind, I imagine Part 3 is gonna have the framework built up here and they just reuse it for more quests locations etc and then just go all in on the remaining events in the game. Weapon attacks, Cid's rocket. Dear only knows how they're gonna handle the Highwind.

Wonder if they'll let us battle the weapons in the 3rd game, not sure I liked the redesign in rebirth.

They've got to. They know damn well those original Weapons are iconic.
I figured the redesign was just a way of introducing the concept a bit early, and involve them in the huge materia stuff. They're either baby Weapons or a new pre-final form of the real ones (or both)

By the way I completely took this for granted during my playthrough, but apparently this actually is a completely seamless open world. You can go on foot and by vehicle and travel from one end of the world to the other without a single loading screen. I'd assumed that the regions were segmented but apparently not.
Also, it doesn't happen very often, but on the rare occasions when the time of day changes if you travel to another area the time of day is maintained. The primary example of this is when you first go to Junon and it's sunset, if you travel back to the grasslands it will be sunset there too.

Yeah it really is a full on open world map once you have the necessary traversal options. I at first thought the later areas were their own instances that had been made that way to save time at the end of development, but they are actually all accessible by water one way or another.
Essentially having half the next game's assets already created will surely save them a lot of development time for the last game.

On the subject of performance (graphics mode): I notice if I continue straight from the PS5 framerate and everything becomes really juddery. Booting the game from scratch everytime seems to reallly help.

That’s pretty common in games that offer both modes, I’ve found. Switching between the two usually adds judder to graphics mode. Kind of makes the option of on-the-fly swapping pointless.

Just going through some of the post game content, I've hit the level 70 cap but struggling to get through hard mode challenges with Chadley.
Anyone got any recommendations for OP character builds?

Just over 70 hours in and on the final boss. Got all the way past the ninety phases or so and died with full health to a one shot kill when the boss has 0.0001% health left.
To redo it I have to start from the first phase again. Fucking hell that is dooooogshit game design. Spend another 45 minutes redoing what I've done probably to get one shotted again? Cunts.
