Watching that DF video, and it's reminding me how much I disliked Arkham Knight.
Damn it, I'm kind of considering buying this stupid game. I do miss running around Gotham City.

Knight was easily the worst one, Oranges included. It just seemed like it had run out of ideas, except for the one tank-shaped idea they had that was terrible.

I thought Knight was awesome, myself, I prefer it over both City and Oranges. It’s a shame it never even got a PS4 Pro patch, as at 4K 60fps on PC it looks genuinely better than most modern releases.

I’ve also bought this because I’m an idiot with too much money and a significant hard on for Bats stuff.

It's not Halloween without Batman IMO.
But wow, I'd forgotten how amazing the water looks in AK. Great water in video games is really underrated.

Yeah, big fan of Knight, Oranges felt like it was a bad copy of Rocksteady's output and did nothing for me, I did like City though. Knight just felt like it was a Dev who had been honing their craft and it all felt so fucking expensive and so incredibly cinematic like this is what they were always working to. It's incredible that it looks amazing after so many years, art style and a sense of identity always prevails.

Even though it strayed into “say the line Bart” territory, the whole “I AM VENGEANCE, I AM THE NIGHT” moment was awesome.

Yes it's the worst Arkham game, but even a bad Arkham game (within reason) beats a lot of other shit.

I've just heard that there's no counter in the combat system of this game. WTF?!

Origins is my favorite. Asylum is a close second though.
I think I've unwisely decided to get this, and I think I'll probably play as Batgirl. Always been a fan of hers.

Why would they mess with the combat so completely that there is no counter?!
I get that none of them are Batman and they wanted 4 distinct styles but the rhythm of the Batman games was 99% of what made the combat so satisfying.
If you nailed a 100+ combo with dodges and counters it felt great. Can't believe none of the characters have that

I guess they really really really really wanted to make it their own thing.

I’ve also bought this because I’m an idiot with too much money and a significant hard on for Bats stuff. So, is it any good? Because I may get buy it myself. (looking through the thread, I'm surprised that so many here disappointed the tank section in Arkham Knight. Guess we're are all different. But I was a huge fan. Fingers crossed we will get some sort of Arkham Resurrection game. Very disappointed that Rocksteady don't believe in milking a franchise to death like Assassin's Creed.

Fuck it. Game bought. Look at my avatar. You can see that I am not an objective person when it comes to projects from a certain creative power house. That is why I am going to a 10am screening of Black Adam, even though it is reviewing worse than Wonder Woman 1984.

Just watched the opening cinematic of Batman's final fight. Brutal. And worth it. A geek tear fell down my cheek. Which is almost impossible, because I'm dead inside.

Doesn’t unlock for me for another fifteen hours according to Steam. Grumble.

Just started it as I was watching the Lakers game, then Inside the NBA.
but man, it's gorgeous. The ray-tracing is really impressive since even on PS5, it does genuinely simulate light shafts peaking through windows and reflections. Often times, console games choose one or the other. I also like the art style and sharp native 4K presentation.
I think either a Miles Morales/Ratchet & Clank style 1440p RT 60 mode, or a dynamic 4K non-RT 60 mode would both be nice for those who prefer fluidity over pure visuals.. but I kind of understand why the consoles and even PCs are struggling with the game.
Also for what it's worth, I like how Gotham looks here. It's more in-line with how I've always envisioned Gotham City, as this mirror of older New York, rather than the weird blend of steampunk, Gothic architecture and neon of Arkham Knight. But that's personal preference.

I forgot about the postal strike yesterday, so it looks like I won't be receiving my copy today. Shame as I have a spare few hours tonight. Which character have you peeps gone with?

Just caught up on the reviews. Watched Skill Up and IGN so far. WB really shit the bed on this.
I can only imagone that it had a troubled development as it just doesn’t make sense. Take the gear system - if they were aiming for an Avengers live service style game and then got cold feet when that game tanked, why not change it in the years that Avengers has been trying to course-correct? The performance issues suggest the same - that they ran out of time to make meaningful change.

Those are my thoughts too. The loot aspect coupled with the strange inclusion of grind in the outer world sections make me agree with Skill Up's belief that this was once a live service game that quickly changed direction once they saw the reaction to Marvel's Avengers.

So this is…kind of ok? It’s not stellar by any means but it’s not quite the car crash a lot say. Also, dunno if there’s been a day 1 patch or something, but I’ve got a locked 60fps at 5k here.

I'm enjoying it as well. Haven't made a huge dent in it yet. But have just met Talia. Who lit a fire, so two speak, under someone's arse. As the americans say.
Let's hope the fun lasts.

The reviews I've seen have been all over the map. 4s and 5s from Gamespot and IGN, 8 and 8.5 from Electric Playground, 7 from GamingBolt, "good but gets repetitive, wait for a sale" from ACG. It's not a GOTY contender IMO, but it's not a train wreck either.
I'm gonna play some more over the weekend, but to add a little to my late night impressions, the combat is a bit rough. Not terrible, but it feels heavy and sluggish. It could use a lock on. It's not only not as fluid as Arkham, it's not as fluid as Avengers either. But it's not terrible per se. Just, not excellent.
Can't say too much about the writing as I didn't get too many story scenes last night, but it felt more Saturday Morning Cartoon than I expected. It's mostly in the banter between the Batbros and Batsis. It kind of makes sense since you're not playing as Bruce Wayne, but if the pretense is that he just died and it's up to you four to protect Gotham, it seems a little strange that they're cracking as many jokes as they are. But I suppose it is better than them being four broody dorks in Zorro masks and bat ears.
The actual story missions are cool though. You do do a bit of investigating, plenty of stealth and sneaking around in air vents, perching up on ledges, things of that nature. It feels like a Batman game, even if not an Arkham one.
I bet it's a lot of fun in co-op too.
I'm enjoying it so far.

The combat is less fluid than Avengers? Is that even possible?
