Gotham Knights

Picked this up on GamePass this week and it's much better than I was expecting after the negative reviews.

It plays nicely, the story is fairly engaging thus far and the characters all play a little differently which is nice. The combat isn't as engaging as Batman, but as a casual pick up and play it's just what I was after!

I'm only near the start, but HQ handing over a book and a balloon was really cinematic last night when the music kicked in. Loved it.

Panning the camera in this really fucked with my eyes, but aside from that it's an acceptable 30 I guess. Not sure I'd class it as pretty great in any way.

My son is really enjoying it but he has never played any of the batman games so hasn't got that comparison.

I started off thinking it was decent and not seeing what all the hate was about.

It's not a bad game, it's just not a very good game either.

I started it the other night and it's got a horrible budget feel imo. The city is so lifeless (no explanation unlike the Arkham games where they always had some throwaway) and the worst thing is the feel. Everything feels weighty in a bad way.

The sound design is horrible. The grapple effect sounds like a placeholder and it feels shit. Directly in comparison to Arkham it's worse without a doubt. The combat is also much less responsive feeling and definitely doesn't match up.

Overall so far pretty shit.

Imagine if it actually was a live service game, as every single thing in the game paints it as.

Playing this after a mate wanted me and 2 others to play with him. Bought into it, booted it up, we all did the tutorials and opening missions before the co op becomes active. Alright, 4 heroes, 4 of us ready to go aaaaaand, it's 2 player sessions only. We now know there's a seperate 4 player co op mode which seems to be a horde mode which is not what we wanted and secondly you can only get it after Case File 5 or something so that's an even bigger time sink. Pretty disappointing.

The game's fine, pretty disappointed in the abilitiy tree, if you can call it that, passive upgrades for most of them. Combat is like 3 buttons, can see myself getting kinda bored but engaged enough to see it through. I do think it's absolutely hilarious that top speed on the cycle has these speedlines around the corners of the screen to sell that illusion you're going super fast when you're really really not.

I ended up knocking the combat down to easy. Wasn't hard but it made it more fun.

It doesn't help that the gloss is actually lard.

Huh. I have been toying with getting this in the last few steam sales and I was about to pull the trigger for £10. The last few posts have really put me off though! I might get the Tomb Raider re-skins instead.

All day this. It's also a fucking travesty that this mediocre looking game is stuck at 30fps.
