Nah, even a well kept record can pick up dust and make it crackle. I have mine pvc sleeved to protect the cover and each record in a polyurethane sleeve on the inner and they still need a brush when you play them. Static is the enemy of the anally retentive record collector

My badly expressed point is that the records crackle isn't true, they can be dead silent, have a bit of crackle or loads, depending on many factors.
