Think I'm a bit younger than most here (not hugely, approaching 35) and I've been purely streaming for a long time. I was using Spotify at uni and that must have been pretty much within its first year of being around (2006). The fad of music games a little after that always frustrated me that none offered Spotify integration.
Then again, being the youngest of three brothers, I never really bought CDs anyway and always just borrowed theirs. I think we had all of those digitally too, so the transition to streaming was fairly natural. I've also never hugely been into music, probably being more interested in it now than I was when I was teenager (and that probably wouldn't have happened if it weren't for basically any music being at the touch of a finger due to streaming).
Now I'm a bit older, I do think their is value of owning something physically. I certainly follow that for films, still resisting the march to full streaming and buying Blu-rays and 4k discs, as well as using the disc rental service Cinema Paradiso. I haven't done the same with music, but I should probably consider following suit. Gaming it feels almost impossible to try to own anything, with even a physical disc still being tied to something online and would be worthless if the required services were to be switched off.

I remember using Spotify on my Nokia E71. Worked surprisingly well.

I barely used Spotify and didn't have a sub, but in the interest of virtue signalling I deleted my account. That'll show 'em.

I switched from Spotify to Tidal knowing I get the better quality, they pay artists better and that 10% of the subscription goes to the most listened to artist that month. I still support my favourite bands directly when I can, but I'm happier paying more than Spotify premium considering how little they pay. The small fuck you at them over backing Rogan as I cancelled the subscription is just a little bonus.

Tidal family seems to be £2/m cheaper than Spotify, too. That'll offset some of the gas bills.

I see a bunch of additional JRE content has been removed. An interview with Chuck C. Johnson:

I also see that The Rock defended Rogan. The video of Rogan using the N word came out. The Rock backtracked. Videos of The Rock doing fake chinese accents came out. The Rock became a Fortnite Character.

Wow this guy needs to book some better guests. Or at least have some sort of vetting process, because right now it looks like there's no quality control at all.
Though he's apparently encouraging more pro-vaccine people to come on his show, which is a (very) small step in the right direction.

Well anything in the 90s/early 00s WWE/WWF is pretty controversial today.

When I looked last week, his entire twitter feed was retweets of anti-vax stuff, so I assume that gives a good idea of where his actual opinions lie. Then again, his entire interview technique seems to be just agreeing with everything his guests say, so maybe getting more pro-vaccine people on will be enough.

I'm not sure that he believes in anything that strongly. He's like that guy at a bar who strikes up conversation, and you give him information about stuff and he just nods while clearly not taking anything in, and then he starts talking about his favourite Tarantino movies or some shit. Like that guy, but paid hundreds of millions of dollars to do it on a podcast. I think pro-vax people should go on his show. Because even if it's all "in one ear and out the other" with him, it's really his massive audience that needs to hear good information.

Is this the unpopular opinions thread?
Not really an opinion but I may be the only person who hasn't got the first clue what an Elden Ring is. Even my wife and kids know and tried to explain it but it wasn't helpful.

Can they hurry up and just kick the fat headed cunt off already. Tidal is the best alternative I've tried so far, but the annoyances with that are piling up. I miss Spotify

A mate was djing on twitch using Tidal and it's not the best. The search is shit and it doesn't have lots of tracks that'd get requested or maybe they do but the search is shit. !Fuck you Tidal was a thing.
Then again so was !piss count.

Nope. Still nothing else with collaborative playlists. It’s been Spotify’s killer feature since it was invite only, and still nobody else has it. I don’t understand.

I've been using Tidal and I would say my experience of using it has been much the same as using Spotify. I've found I've been mostly listening to podcasts recently tough, so can't say I've actually had a huge amount of usage out of it. The discovery playlist does seem a bit narrow to indie rock, which is odd as I don't think I've actually listened to that much indie rock since using it.

Still using Tidal as well. Nothing fancy; just listening to albums/liking/personal playlists. Selection is fine. Haven't given Spotify a second thought

Couple of minor annoyances with Tidal for me. It doesn't connect to Google Home as far as I can tell, so you have to start playback on your phone and connect to a speaker instead of just asking it to play whatever playlist you want. The download option seems to be useless on the admittedly large playlist I've tried it on. Might just make a smaller version of it and try that instead.
Would be nice to have a scrollbar to get to the end of a playlist too. It's perfectly fine really, just nitpicking.

I cancelled Tidal as I hardly used it. Got the £1 promo so no big loss. Don't use Spotify anymore either, mainly use YouTube these days.

I tried Tidal for a bit but the premium for lossless and family account is too much for me. I may give Amazon Music another go, purely to save cash. All getting a bit pricey.

They all have their downsides and, oddly, completely different ones. Bearing in mind hi res music and Sonos support are the two most important things, Tidal seems to be the best of the bunch for me and gives the most Spotify like experience but
- Tidal not supported on echo devices - Apple Music doesn’t do lossless on windows or Sonos - Amazon musics apps are just rubbish
Spotify is probably the best experience all round and, annoyingly, the fam now want their own accounts for collab playlists with their friends so when/if Spotify do hi res, I may switch back
