Just had a quick look at Neil Youngs listen figures and he seems to be in the billions. The 'truth finder' Joe Rogan must have some real clout.

I used to listen to the Rogan podcast, but he seems to have massively jumped the shark. I think he genuinely believes that he's some kind of intellectual at this point. Some of the stuff he's been saying about vaccines is very irresponsible given his audience.

Considering as Spotify seems to think that Covid misinformation is fine, it might be time to look elsewhere for music provision.
Also, fuck that ignorant, loudmouth twat Rogan, anyway.

Jordan Peterson was the same and I sure a majority of the people who come on to the scene through some of pseudo bollocks are the same. It’s unbelievable how massive these people get. Think there was point a 5 years or so back when most people I meet were listening to them. Always felt slightly dubious of them personally. No doubt they both have interesting things to say but the whole furore around both were..well odd

Spotify make nothing from Neil Young, they make loads from Joe Rogan and the advertising on his show. It’s good that an artist that’s in a position to take a stand for their principles has; Spotify won’t care unless it seriously hits subscriber numbers which would take quite a few artists going to achieve.
I did like NYs little dig at the lack of hifi too.

All the services are largely the same other than interfaces and the social side. They all have fairly similar algorithms for recommendations and others have better sound quality. AM is cheaper if you get an annual subscription too.

Fontgeek neo-marxists really showing their true colours with the Joe and Jordan hate. They're just telling it how it is!

Or they could be responsible and take some control over what is on his show instead of absolving themselves from any responsibility.

I used to enjoy the podcasts when he'd have physicists and other scientists on, but, he's a fucking idiot. At the beginning of the pandemic he had a an epidemiologist on who gave various predictions as to what would likely happen with Covid, all of which basically came to pass iirc. Fast forward a few weeks and Joe's out there giving it the old hEaT sHoCk PrOtEiNs routine. For someone who consults with a lot of genuine experts, he's really terrible at actually learning anything and not just cherry picking stuff that supports his own viewpoint.

I’ve never got on with tidal when I’ve tried it but no idea why. I think it didn’t have loads of stuff I wanted at the time.

Tidal Family Sub is actually £2 a month cheaper than Spotify.

This is something I wasn't aware of that adds some relevant context to Neil Young's actions:

I'm locked into Spotify on my phone contract, but when that finishes I'm swapping. I used to watch the Rogan youtube shorts where he would have scientists and adventurers on telling stories, they were always very entertaining. But he seems to have gone for the fast buck and appealing to the 50% of the male population that are complete fuckwits...
See also Russell Brand.

Actually, I might be better off with apple music.
I think the problem with Joe is that it was a perfect storm of being so successful, you believe your own hype and having a global event that feeds into his specialist subject; quack medicine.

It's utterly fascinating how a steroid abusing numpty got so famous but then we have David Icke.

Both the Apple users in the household have said a resounding "no" to Apple Music. I just pay the bills, so...
We're going to do a Tidal trial and then we'll see. If in a month, there are complaints about what is available (it looks like there's a fair bit of Reggaeton on there for example), then we'll look elsewhere, but it looks like most stuff that is commercially available is available on both platforms.

This definitely feels like a kick up the arse for me to cancel too. Made a bit more difficult by having a family plan... I guess the missus can just put up with ads if she wants to keep using it.
YouTube music makes sense considering I've already got a sub for that (I did the needful), but seems a bit wank from my brief look. I guess if I find a way to move playlists over that'll help.

It’s got a much bigger library these days which also includes lossless and atmos content. Discovery is shit compared to Spotify though, Spotify seem to use black magic for that

SongShift works between most services, not sure if it’s iOS only.
Couldn’t stand YouTube music when I tried it. There seemed to be so much trash from user uploaded stuff that the proper recordings were a pain to find.

YouTube music makes sense considering I've already got a sub When I decided to pony up for YouTube Premium, I found the the music offering was just about good enough for me to bin Spotify. But I've always been a music surfer rather than a playlist savant, so I'm happy to seed the algorithm and then let it take me along for the ride. When I've fancied a specific album it hasn't let me down so far, about three months in, though.
