I’ve started the caffeine cutoff time to 3pm; let’s see how that goes ! I can’t tell if that’s why I’m getting up to the loo in the night (gotta have that cuppa at 9pm like an idiot) or I’m just…getting old. Might as well change the thing that I can change and see if it helps.
If you’re heading down the mindfulness route I can highly recommend the 10% happier app which does me the power of good. If you’re wanting some background noise the Rain Rain app has a free premium theme every day. Some of them drive me up the wall, but some of the rain loops are soothing and the standard sound loops are always free. I’ve never paid for any of the premium loops.

Nemesis, we're all different, but I get up for the loo if I drink anything after 5 ish, never mind caffeine.
Mindfulness wise, I use Smiling Mind and Calm. Calmn is getting on my wick a bit due to Tamara Levitt who seems to be everywhere on it. I've heard things about Medito that I might try. That said, I've done it for years on and off and choudl stop using the apps now.

I could murder a cup of tea right now ! Can you get into green tea? Get some proper loose leaf varieties from Chinatown/online rather than the generic bitter crap from Sainsbury

I swapped to Rooibos tea, mainly to stop the staining on my teeth I was getting with regular tea. It's the closest to tea I found.

Less alcohol. I’ve started off tonight with four whiskeys. Going well.

Less alcohol. I’ve started off tonight with four whiskeys. Going well. I got through yesterday sans booze. Although Monday and Tuesday are always my dry days. 1st challenge will be poker on Wednesday (I have AF beer lined up), then that Friday feeling. If I can get past that 5/6pm craving, I'm usually ok...

Good luck man. I still haven’t found my “reward” evening drink that I can substitute. Just don’t want tea or coffee after about 3, fruit teas, bleurgh, alcohol free wine is absolutely disgusting, bought some alcohol free cider the other day- you guessed it, just like drinking apple juice, some beers are alright, most are sugary and weak. Bah!

Good luck to you too mate. Agree re AF wine. Which is the only one I've not found a sub for tbh. G&T is covered by nice flavoured tonic, I genuinely like the taste of Punk AF. Others are ok, but that one is actually quite tasty.

I don't drink at all so take my advice with a pinch of salt, but we drink Franziskaner Weissbier Alkoholfrei and Old Mout, and our local brewery Harveys do alcohol free ale as well, which is really nice.
You have to shop around and try a lot of stuff as there is a lot of piss, although it is getting better.

When I was quitting, I found Erdinger AF to be nice. Also Bavaria Holland I enjoyed. Only wine I found that was drinkable was the sparkling alcohol free white wine in Sainsbury's. That's actually alright. Aside from that it was ginger beer and lots of water.
I don't drink AF beers anymore, so no idea what is nice at the moment.

Peroni and Heineken do decent AF lagers. I tend to find lager suffers more from being AF than weissbier (it's sweet anyway) and IPA (hops mask the lack of alcohol).
If you can access a decent bottle shop, many of them now do very low ABV stuff - it just has a bit more body to it.
I tend to like sugar free ginger beer when I'm not drinking, or lemongrass and ginger cordial and some sparkling water. The trick is to change your mindset from "I want to get pissed" to "I'd like a nice drink." Easier said than done but forcing yourself to get up early and do some exercise helps!

Can also recommend Athletic Brewing's beers, all less than 0.5% abv and all tasty, if pricy.

I don't know how you AF weirdos do it, it would just make me want the real thing even more.

I've found most AF drinks don't really work for me - they just lack something. Well, alcohol, I guess. But it's not even just the lack of inebriation, the alcohol adds a depth and weight to the taste.
So I'd rather just drink something entirely different. I've used sparkling water in the past, as I think I like the mouthfeel. That's what I'll be trying in place of beer.

I don't know how you AF weirdos do it, it would just make me want the real thing even more. It's really just breaking the habitual nature of drinking. Start with AF for the first week or so and after that it becomes easier to resist and just drink something else.

I like the dryness of beer when I'm watching football and it's really hard to replicate other than AF options.
But you're right, getting that change of mindset is really what you need.

Also, some brewers have worked wonders giving their AF beers good body. The Athletic Brewery is a good example.

I am going to hunt some down. I do this every time I try to have a few weeks off, pitiful really.
I've largely got rid of the need to drink during watching football on telly - probably 10/12 years ago, I'd have half a dozen pints per game. Now I don't bother unless it's a Saturday evening or Sunday 4pm game, as that's when I'd have a couple anyway.

If Arsenal were winning then maybe you didn't need a drink?

I think it's the opposite. The better we are doing, the more tense I get and try to alleviate that with booze.

As a non-drinker it's just a change from the usual options that we're usually limited to at t'pub. Cokes and lime and sodas get a bit boring after a while.

I like the Heineken 0%.
I have a few AF spirits, they are very decent, nice in a cocktail!

Thankfully, I'm assured that my imminent conversion to Islam will not require me to stop drinking.

I don't but, in any case, neither the shahada nor the nikah are legally binding.
She'd be ostracised from her family if we didn't conform (it's not permissible for women to marry outside of the faith, and dating isn't permissible at all), so it kinda has to happen sooner rather than later.
Ultimately I'm very relaxed about it. It does feel like a big step but one that makes me very happy. She's great and her family are all sound (moreso than my actual in-laws) so if it all feels right then why not? Hell, it feels more right than the first time I proposed, which I did sort of out of guilt.
