Definitely a 10/10 in VR. Absolutely brilliant step back into the HL universe when I played it.

I’m tempted to pick up a 2nd hand vr set then sell it after so it barely costs me. I’m not much of a vr fan, it’s a bit of fun but for example re7 I got bored of the vr element of it after a couple of hours. Alyx is next level though I’m sure as I’ve watched a couple of vids since to check out what you can do.

Walking dead: final season
Have not played it in ages and its leaving PC gamepass. The series always had great potential for choices matter and none of telltale games ever did, which is a real shame. They just kept on making the same game with better graphics, add in toxic management and staff, not surprising the studio folded.
There is some nice scenes the scene with Lee is great and you think they are going to kill off Clem like the Lee scene in the first game (although was bitten for a long time)
But there is dumb scenes as people seem to teleport behind people to kill off character or people don't stop them as they need the rest of the plot to happen. Its poor writing and direction. I know the studio was going under and the new publisher helped to finish the game but you have to judge it as an game they sold to people. Also none of the new cast are likeable, they are all bland , AJ is little sociopath who is "always right"
It will be great to see a new studio who can do these games better and with choice that mean something, that star trek game tried but it ran as good as walking dead season 1 on xbox 360
5/10

Half life Alyx Played it in non vr mode and still it was a brilliant experience. Beautiful to look at, incredible sound quality and music, intense atmosphere. Felt so great being back in this world after 10+ years and in non vr it basically plays like hl2. The game is mostly intact with only really the loot box puzzles being removed, otherwise the puzzles all still work. Probably an 8 out of 10 so I’d imagine it is an easy 10 if played in vr. Does it just work with regular mouse and keyboard FPS controls and movement? I assumed it was based around some kind of teleporting movement that I thought VR games used to avoid motion sickness.

Goldeneye on Series X
The difficulty is off the charts on some of these missions. I suppose years of breezing through single player games, you do forget how games back then were very much trial and error. I had to drop down the difficulty for the mission, where you are in the jail cell.. absolute chaos trying to do that mission.
Still got the retro itch, so onto completing HL2.

Nope it plays just like hl2. Full k&m controls with the same inputs as hl2 as well. Currently now playing through hl2 and yeah Alyx plays like it’s another instalment. There are the occasional crashes and bugs that need you to reload but otherwise it’s a great 9hour experience, looks and sounds amazing and has such an atmosphere throughout. Hdr looked lovely in it although the dark areas were a little bright but when I flicked it to non hdr it was no where near as vibrant. Clearly it will be next level vr and maybe I should have waited but it was still a great experience.

The difficulty is probably why I remember it so fondly. I’m not somebody who gets off on difficult games, but there is an appeal to trying to master games of that quality. I remember being stuck on so many levels, especially at the 00 Agent difficulty, but it was such a rush when you finally finished it. I swear it took months to unlock the Egyptian level, and my adrenaline was through the roof in those closing moments on Aztec. Did I forget to upload the plans? How much health is Jaws going to chip off me? Have I forgotten something. Will I make it up the ladder to launch the rocket? Would this finally be attempt where everything comes together smoothly? I replayed it on Xbox when it came out and on reflection, I think it’s genuinely the best FPS campaign ever made. I know I’m one for controversial opinions, but I don’t think it’s ever been bettered. It could be a better game, but even the janky AI works in its favour. I never had that kind of thrill with Halo, Killzone, Half-Life, etc… Not even close.

I remember playing Goldeneye and Jedi Knight at almost the same time, on different platforms. (Side note: 1997 was a great year for games!)
I loved both, and they both have really good single player storylines. but they're so totally opposite in terms of gameplay.
Going from force jumping 3 stories and leaping off ledges to being unable to jump at all or even walk off a ledge was always a big mental adjustment.
Then of course you also had Quake 2 at around the same time, for just mindlessly blasting stuff.
PS/ Now I really want to play HL2: Alyx

For me an FPS campaign where the AI is covering and it is just a case of waiting for them to pop their head up.. whilst realistic, is fairly boring to me. I suppose it is a bit like Doom. You're just gliding along, mowing down tonnes of enemies. Although I will say that the OG Halo and Half-Life is a touch too far for me, as I bloody love those campaigns!
