The holographic weapons system in Legend of the Rangers is one of the stupidest and worst looking things I’ve seen in any series not just B5 or even just science fiction

I can’t decide if this X-Files parody in Crusade is clumsy as hell or a very silly joy

I wonder how much SG-1 one could watch before it became shit again.

Ooo it's all on Now TV, something to put on in the background while I paint/play video games.
I bet it's OK until Daniel Jackson dies / they run out of Egyptian gods. But also never better than OK. Just very consistently OK.

The intro music is very 90s Sci-Fi marching music, its actually quite good. Some of the effects already look ropey, lots of very serious men in military uniforms looking serious.
When was the last banger of a Sci-Fi show theme tune? I reckon it was Battlestar. Everyone goes too low key / ambient these days.

If they were on D+, Netflix or Freevee I’d be lining up Seaquest or SG1 as one of my next sci-fi binges
I think I tapped out SG1 pretty early and never tried Atlantis or SGU but someone at work tells me its their second favourite sci-fi show

I really like The Orville’s theme but I’m not sure it counts since its so determinedly been written as “give us Voyager/DS9 but…” rather than being an original concept.
I’m sure I said it about a page ago but I think not sticking an iconic theme tune is one of the things that held Babylon 5 back against its Star Trek contemporaries.
I genuinely can’t think of any others from the last ten years though

None. *ducks* Just watch Seaquest DSV instead. Well, I tried rewatching the latter not so long ago, but overall I seem to not really be able to find the enthusiasm for it anymore. The pilot movie was great but the show never really lived up to the promise otherwise. Or at least I think so nowadays. 2032 was sometimes a bit closer to that "Cold War" under water scenario that the pilot movie seemed to be promising.
Don't feel much more positive about SG1 though. I like to imagine that they could've done something cool if the Goa'uld had devastated Earth at the end of Season 1 or 2.

Watched all the seasons and well it's great but I agree with you all that season 5 was a massive step down in quality.
Started the films and well what happened.
Does anyone have another show that hopefully fills the WiFi gap.

I was kinda joking about seaquest... no idea if it's any good.
SG1 was always a pet hate of mine though.
Though I heard later seasons imported half the Farscape cast, so they can't be all bad.

Season 5 is such a slog, I'm really having to force myself to keep going. At least I'm done with Byron now, the least charasmatic cult leader ever.

I thought S5 was alright. Watching the whole thing in a handful of sittings probably negated any slog early on but considering they’d used up the intended arc by rushing S4 this was a good new beginning/ending to the series Plus the final episode is one of the most effective I’ve seen to a long running sci-fi show

Though I heard later seasons imported half the Farscape cast, so they can't be all bad. I'd say I don't mind SG1 too much, quite a few episodes and ideas were cool. It just never felt very believable. The overall idea seems workable, but when you have a bunch of human soldiers running around threatening Goa'uld empires and helping out advanced alien races with their surprisingly effective "projectile weapons"... at some point it started to feel more and more like wasted potential. I barely watched Farscape. Too cheesy.
I thought S5 was alright.
I haven't watched it in a while, but "The Very Long Night of Londo Mollari" is genuinely great. I always enjoy these kinds of episodes. "The Wire" in DS9 is another great example and there was one episode of VOY with the Doctor which also pretty much fits the bill.
But yeah, Byron was probably the most annoying character of the whole show.

As mentioned earlier about watching shows without the week gap probably season 5 feels more of an effort to watch when back in the nineties it was still a new episode of B5 that you could look forward to.

SG-1 remains ropey, its entirely fine. That is all. I'm 10 episodes in. Some fun ideas, a lot of re-hashed Star Trek plots

S5 finally done.
In the end the telepath stuff took up a lot less time than I remembered. I suppose it stood out in my memory because it was so awful compared to the mediocrity of the rest of the season. Remember Byron indeed.

How much did you cry during the final episode?

I did a rewatch earlier in the year when I heard about the reboot. The quality drops off so quickly after the main arc is done I had to slog through the end of S4 and never even contemplated S5.
I may go back to it after reading this thread again, seems I may have been a little harsh in my memory of it.

How much did you cry during the final episode? I welled up a bit but I’ve seen it a few times before and the episode is burned into my memory. Next rewatch I’ll skip S5 apart from the last one.

Seems its coming back but not sure what form im guessing a Telltale video game? One of the greatest science-fiction shows of all time is coming back in 2023 in a secret project featuring all surviving members of the show's original main cast. www.space.com/babylon-5-return-original-cast

I'm curious what it will be. If they are bringing back all the cast, including dead characters then I guess it won't be a follow-up story.

featuring all surviving members of the show's original main cast. Both of them?

I hope the "main cast" will include Walter Koenig (as long as that doesn't also involve Byron).

JMS has been teasing something for the last week, first with a photo of him and Bruce Boxleitner and a B5 logo. Today he reveals the news.
I can only assume he used telepaths to stop the information leaking.
