I wrote a depressing post about loving photography but not being able to do it half the time - lukebennettphotos.com/blog/2024/6/22/enjoying-photography-with-a-chronic-illness-or-hidden-disabilityIt was sort of cathartic at the time. Here are the photos on it to lighten the mood This tufted duck has been watching too much Andrew Tate This was just to kind of prove to myself I could get an OK swallow shot in what were really rubbish conditions - it's had loads of noise reduction to make it look alright.

yep I was sorry to read of health fuckery and for what it's worth I love this thread and that's largely down to your work. Whatever your health allows you to do is so very much appreciated

It’s pretty inspirational that despite your illness and fatigue you still manage to get out there and take more photos than the rest of us combined. It certainly highlights my own shortcomings in terms of motivation

In other news I’m expecting a work related windfall within the next couple of months and I’m thinking about spaffing it on a GFX 100S ii. This seems like a completely sensible and reasonable course of action, right?

You know it's not. Do it!
Seriously though - do you make money through your photography? If so, go for it - it looks incredible. If not, what will it give you that you can't already do with current kit.

I think you may need an intervention...

Its totally a bad idea and I’m definitely going ahead with it 👍
It won’t give me much over my current (extensive) camera collection but it’s new and shiny
I bought the GFX 50R on a similar whim but I’m now completely sold on the system in general. The image quality is astounding and I don’t just mean in terms of the pixels but more the vibe, colours, dynamic range
Later this year I’m going on a week long photography based guided hike thing in the Dolomites (one of Andy Mumford’s tours if you’re familiar with him from YouTube). So the 50R will come with me on that one. Then next year me and the missus are doing another one of his trips, to the rainforest in Ecuador then on a chartered yacht to the Galapagos. So for that one I’m thinking 100S ii
I’m falling firmly into a GAS / all-the-gear-no-idea trap. Fuck it though, can’t take it with you

I'm probably going to get a nice shiny shiny when I've sorted out this probate stuff. I think my parents would have liked me to continue my photography journey on, but I don't think I'll be using 5k on a camera

That Mumford guy takes amazing landscapes and I'd love to go to the dolomites so you've swayed me.
Despite saying I was going to stick with my current system for a while and just replace the lenses I no longer have from the old system, I kind of now want a little Fuji to stick in my pocket for the days I'm carrying around the Nikon telephoto and see some wider stuff I want to snap. I'm thinking the X-E range looks ideal and pancake 18mm (as I want something a bit wider than the X-100).

It definitely won’t improve my photography but I really want either a Leica or a medium format Fuji if I get a large bonus at work

I’ve been looking at an X-T30 II. Stupidly in my head I’m going I could trade towards it.. but then I should wait.

Found a bunch of unused film that my dad had. Almost certain it's expired, but could be fun to see what results I could get out of taking some photos. I'm fully expecting it to be completely shit, but ah well.

Anyone done much infrared photography? Got a cheap filter since the X-T3 has some IR sensitivity. Typical that the sun has been out for about 10 minutes since then Excuse the dirty window!

I had an infrared filter years ago when I had my canon 350D. They're fun. I wasn't sure what the point was really but you can get some interesting / weird results.
