Ordered the Nikon Z6iii today. A bit of a departure for me as I been shooting Fuji for 7/8 years. Been a little bit frustrated with my XPro 3 focusing of late. It just not reliable and it’s missed some shots I rather liked. Reading up online, I don’t know whether it’s the sensor/FW but Fuji cameras around 2020 seem to suffer from getting confused with focal distance, if you re-focus several times on the same shot in single shot mode it loses where it thinks the subject is at and doesn’t really focus on anything. I kind of gone from being able and to work around it to being frustrated. A real shame as I love the Xpro line (x-pro 2 is probably my favourite camera of all time). It probably did miss some shots but my Xpro2 just seemed to nail everything, if a bit slowly which is fine by me. Had the Xpro 3 for a while so got my use out of it. I used a z6ii a couple of years back and was quite impressed with it, like the way it handled and put me in mind to perhaps get one in the future if my current system broke down. It’s my birthday next week so… yeah z6iii happened! Oooh, new camera excitement! I switched after several years with Fuji to Nikon (Z8) around 18 months ago for similar reasons. Doing more wildlife stuff I was finding the X-H1 to be quite unreliable. AF and tracking on the Nikon is a lot better, so no regrets. And the lenses are fantastic. It's extremely customisable too so I'd definitely recommend looking at some set up guides on YouTube to get an idea how you might want to lay things out. Funnily enough though, I'm looking at getting another Fuji (maybe the M5 that's going to be announced soon) just as a little pocket camera. By the time I added the Z6iii and a couple of lenses In the basket I did consider just going for the Z8. What’s another grand and a bit 😂 But I don’t really need the extra MP. They’d be nice but I don’t print beyond A3 really and A2 is doable with 24.5 mp. I mainly wander around and shoot on primes so don’t really crop either. Lens wise gone for the 35mm 1.8 which will be my main lens and also the 40mm f/2 for when I’m travelling/in more populated areas to keep weight down and be a bit more stealthy. Like wise the Z6 it’s a bit smaller and lighter than the Z8. I still probably have pangs for it though from time to time! Likewise for Fuji. I would’nt be surprised if I got another sometime down the road. I just really enjoy shooting on them, just a shame about focusing issue. Shall check out some YouTube videos for sure 👍

Shame you had issues with the X-Pro3, I love mine. What focus method was playing up? I just always do centre point focus and recompose.

Single point and would move the focus point to where I would want it (usually around the centre area, but focus on something where I would think grab focus or a point i wanted to be the focal point). I think my shooting habit just meant that i would refocus and compose a few times before I finally take the shot .

It's that time of year. I'm determined to find a new woods to visit this autumn rather than the one I always go to.
I just ordered me a little Fuji X-M5 to stick in my pocket whilst I'm using the telephoto on my Nikon. Or just for spur of the moment stuff. I ordered the 27mm a few months ago in anticipation too.

Nice! Did you keep any fuji lenses from before or did you sell everything? I like the design of the X-M5 very much.
They also teased 2 new cameras, one suspected to be a GFX (maybe a fixed lens?) and no idea on the other one. I'm holding out for the X-Pro4

Nah, I sold all of them to fund my habit. The only one that would possibly have been useful for my pocketable camera plan now would have been the 35mm f2, but I wanted something a little wider.
Yeah that fixed lens GFX could be very interesting...

Oh and Wizzard will be delighted to know Fuji are supposedly improving the AF of a load of cameras via firmware soon 😄

Oh and Wizzard will be delighted to know Fuji are supposedly improving the AF of a load of cameras via firmware soon 😄 I still havn’t sold my Xpro 3 yet 😃. It be great if they could though, they make great cameras. Was going to keep the lenses as I know I be likely to splurge again at some point. Took the Z6iii out over the weekend and it’s kind of like getting into a sports car after using fujis for so long. Going to take a while to get used to the size, certainly won’t be able to whip it out (sorry) like you can with the fujis but I noticed I was working a lot slower which is kind of what I wanted. The viewfinder is incredible too. Super quick autofocus, handles well. Impressed. If they did sort out the autofocus I’d be happy having both, Fuji for travel and inner urban areas and Nikon for field work.

Did you look at the Nikon ZF when making your choice? If I had to start fresh now that's probably what I'd look at (but I would seriously miss having an aperture ring on the dial. This is one of the main things which keeps me with Fuji, that and the aesthetics)
