Yeah, seems like a lot of dead space where nothing is really going to be happening. But PC gamers gonna PC

Have to agree. It looks like permanent photo mode, i.e. unplayable but "ooooohhhh pretty"

Only just started playing this. I'm not gonna be hanging around here, but just have to gush somewhere and be a bit over dramatic....this game has rekindled my love of computer games. That feeling when you're at work, thinking about getting home and playing it, sheer joy!

I caved and bought one of those collections of Amiibo cards from Amazon. Good deal, 18 quatloos for all the cards, plus the one for Links' Awakening that gives you the Dark Link room for the dungeon creator. I already had the Twilight Princess clothes, Epona, and the Fierce Deity clothes after borrowing some Amiibos from a mate, now the prospect of doing the system/time fiddle for acquiring all the bonus items quickly sounds like a full days work.

I've picked up my Master Mode playthrough again, after about 6 months away, and once again I'm completely engrossed. I'm about half way through the game at the moment and its kinda nice having to relearn the importance of cooking and picking your battles wisely.
I spent my morning experimenting and making meals I didn't even know existed, and then had to replan an attack on a camp that backfired first time and cost me most of my weapons before I eventually died.
Master Mode really brings out the best in this game in that regard. Even the weapon degradation, which is much more severe, encourages a more strategic approach to fighting. It's awesome.
Also, revisiting some of these shrines, some of them are awesome. Some are like mini dungeons. Others have puzzles that are far more rewarding that any dungeon I can even recall.
I hope they stick to this system for the sequel. Shrines are way more interesting than any traditional dungeon (except maybe Ocarina's Water Temple).

I'm really struggling with gaming atm, feeling like I want to play something but nothing is holding my attention. I think I might resort to starting this again.

Can't go wrong IMO. I'm tempted to try master mode.

Can you play Master Mode straight away on a 'fresh' copy of the game (sans completed save file)?

I'm closing in on tbe end of elden ring, and I think I might have to come back to this as well. I've got horizon fw but I think I prefer this.
My current save is everything mainly dome except some memories and the odd bit of dlc item hunting. I could maybe do the castle and then finish it but I know I'll just pootle about instead like I always do.
Maybe a fresh run might be better.

I did restart this again last night, on Master mode. Completed the Plateau and now need to make my way off.
I forgot that I had bought the full set of Zelda Amiibo cards, and you can use them once a day. So I'm swimming in crafting stuff and stronger weapons, and the wolf is crazy tough. Unsure if I'll stick with a full playthrough but looking forward to jumping back on again later.

I'm closing in on 80 Shrines on Master Mode now. 3 Devine Beasts down. 300 Korok Seeds and 3 Towers left to climb.
I've been engrossed in it lately. My play style has completely changed this time around. I don't even bother clearing half the enemy camps. The reward isn't always worth the effort, but if I do I wait until the sun has gone down, knock back a strength elixer and go for as many sneak strikes as I can before poop hits the fan.
I have put way more effort into cooking meals. I no longer thoroughly comb through every new area I discover. In my original playthrough I spent 20 hours in the desert alone hunting out Shrines and Korok seeds. Now I need to focus on upgrading my armour, which involves travelling to other areas, to increase mt defence. Then I need to forage for ingredients for elixers and meals. Then I'll plan a route and clear through that instead, marking significant discoveries on the map for future expeditions.
I've still got a third of the map to explore, but I must be on around 70 hours on this playthrough alone. I've ignored a lot of the side quests this time, but perhaps I should focus on them. There's all the DLC items I've never had before all waiting to be collected.

Sorry to keep banging on about this game, but I've been hooked for weeks now! I completed Eventide last night on Master Mode, thanks to a hugely fortunate thunderstorm wiping out half the island's enemies.
I've been leaning hard into cooking elixers and meals on my Master Mode run, due to the increased difficulty, and the attack increasing ones help curb the extreme weapon degredation, but after the thunderstorm hit I only had to take down the hinox.
If folk are ever itching to replay this game, Master Mode is excellent. It really forces you to use all the game's systems in order to succeed. I'm foraging more, cooking more, upgrading all my gear (because I genuinely need the defence in extreme areas). I've learnt to fight more dynamically, considering the time of day, setting traps, or using combinations of weapons to control large battles, rather than just smashing things up (you can't rely on stasis to fight enemies anymore). Its a proper game changer.
I even beat my first golden lynel the other day, losing just one weapon in the process. I have become a far better player than I was last time and its been way more enjoyable to play as a result. I hope the sequel has Master Mode straight out of the gate.

I applaud your efforts but I think master mode would be too much for me. I can't even do Lynels on normal mode!
I very nearly loaded it up the other day but ended up on house of the dead overkill but I think it might nearly be time for a fresh botw run. Might do it in a different order this time like do the memories first and some dlc quests I haven't done before the main arc

My route through the map changed this time around. I mean, I still headed out west to begin with, so I could get the slate upgraded and such, but from there I went anti-clockwise around the map, rather than clockwise.
Part of me feels this is likely the intended route through the game, but honestly after you're done in Hateno Village, it doesn't really matter where you go next.
I did have to hold back on exploring the farthest reaches of the map though, at least until I upgraded all my gear properly, so I have done a lot more backtracking and teleporting this time around.

I really want to get back into BotW, but I feel like I left it alone for so long now that I might have to spend ages cooking just to be able to get anything done, and that's going to put me off.

You wont know until you jump in, but if you had to cook you'd probably be unstoppable if you're playing the normal mode.

You could make a dummy account on your Switch, play through the first few hours on that to relearn the ropes then jump back to your main account to continue your save. Worked for me when I wanted to make a new save without tampering with my old one, at least.

I know I don't play on master mode, but cooking wise, I always just go straight to farron tower in the stormy jungle and just float north from the tower, hoover up all the durian fruit and just cook 5 at a time I think I only do elixirs until I get the various armours that do it anyway

I've discovered if you cook a mixture of imgredients with the same enhancing properties, the effects are stronger. I've relied on so many attack based meals, and I've got a recipe down for a lengthy 3 strength attack meal, which makes light work of any enemy type.
I could probably find a stronger elixer, but I'm still playing around with combinations. I dont know which monster parts are most effective or how best to combine them yet. Not confidently, anyway.
I've also traded so many monster parts for gear, so I'm quite low on parts at the minute.

For monster parts, dragon bits are the best. Drop a horn in your dish and it gives you a whopping half hour of the buff!

Plus I can't remember off the top of my head if the Plateau enemies are exempt from the worldwide upgrades monsters get as you progress...
