There is a huge overarching plot, they have had to fight over a hostile takeover attempt and they realise if they don't adapt really quickly that they are a few years away from being fucked. Also Kendalls constant attempts to take over the company have seemingly been crushed and he has been pretty much destroyed by it. It's easy to ignore that if you focus on the bickering and infighting. I'm not overly sure what more they could do plot wise without it seeming jarring as people watch it for the characters. Edit; also the DOJ investigation over cruises (which was a little underbaked but I'm not sure it's over yet). I agree (including the idea we may not have seen the end of the DOJ investigation). I've seen a lot of criticism about the lack of forward momentum, treading water, etc. And I think it may be valid, especially if folk are craving more traditional dramatic beats. That said, traditional overtly dramatic plot mechanisms have largely been absent across the whole series (the car drowning comes to mind but how many others are there? Logan being hospitalised maybe?). It's not really how the show works is it? It's certainly not central to it. Succession is all about the Waystar Royco and the family, and as frogofdoom says there's been plenty of plot development this series regarding the company and the shit-show family dynamics that shape its direction. Some major shifts this episode included Shiv on the ascendant at Roman's expense, and Kendall getting savaged by Logan (my God have I been waiting for Brian Cox to have such a scene this season - a masterclass, horrible though the scene was) ( Anyway, the bickering /is/ the show. Fair enough if that's not enough to keep people interested, but to my mind there wasn't a single wasted line or scene in Sunday's episode.

Maybe there's a lack of momentum now the peril of the DOJ has subsided slightly but personally I'm savouring every minute of each episode. I just sit there with a goofy grin each week. The writing and characters are simply some of the greatest in the history of television.
Loved this weeks episode. Keiran Culkin is a genius. The 'look' he gives his dad is worthy of an Oscar.

Romulus is definitely MVP of this series. And Tom, with his prison paranoia – hilarious every time.

Definitely diminishing returns at this point. It's still good TV but is in danger of outstaying its welcome. They need to start wrapping things up.

That Roman scene was amazing, perfect also to show how breathtakingly misogynistic Logan still is, Gerri will have seen right through Shiv I imagine. Next week will be interesting, it’s the last one isn’t it? I think we’ll definitely get one more season but maybe not much more than that.

I'd hazard a guess on next season being the last. I hope I'm wrong.

Wow, what an episode, stellar acting and dialogue again. Love Kendall. I just wonder about Marcia and if she could somehow affect things. Tom/Shiv is going to be awesome next season

Yes, a very strong final episode. Quite a shocker - but then, on reflection, perhaps not? Logan always wins, after all. And the thing with Tom had been coming, really, hadn't it? As you say it'll be interesting to see where they take that. As for Marcia - I'm not really sure what's going on with her to be honest. I mean she must still be in it (and more present in that episode) for a reason (beyond the wedding)?
The key scene with Kendall killed me. As I've said before, he really is a lost, damaged child. I just can't summon the contempt he may deserve at times. The interaction between the siblings was beautifully done there, Roman being Roman yet trying his best, Shiv preoccupied with the phone call.
Can't wait for next season.

Probably. I need a bit more self-restraint but luckily folk are using spoiler tags so I haven't ruined for myself.

I really think that Kendall (although a cringeworthy arse at times) is by far the most decent person out of all of them, I hope he gets some happiness and we can see him rap again.

I don't think we've discussed the Jeremy Strong New Yorker piece here yet. I'm guessing a few of you must have read it or followed the (silly) hullabaloo. My own take is that it was snarky at times but not really a hit job. I'm not a fan of actors being up their own arses about their "craft". But I'm a big fan of his performance in Succession...so there you go. I think the only thing that bothers me is the extent to which it seems to irritate some fellow cast members (though, certainly with Brian Cox, this is tempered with genuine concern). For an ensemble piece, I can see why his approach could be frustrating.

Fantastic episode and some of the best performances from all of the cast this season..
I don’t know why I like Tom, he’s both a massive cunt and pathetic.

This whole season has been incredible, top-tier TV like nobody's really making anymore but that finale... The whole season has just felt like a huge team of actors, writers and everyone else on exactly the same page working at the absolute top of their game.
Loved all the Roman (historical, not Culkin) vibes throughout. And those final scenes.... Wow.

It’s funny how I felt the same way I did after having watched The Red Wedding. Yet not a drop of blood was spilled.

My leftover question that may require a rewatch to answer: how deep was Tom in this, and for how long?

Yeah, that's why I'm going to rewatch (or one of the reasons). (Might be a good idea to spoiler tag your post btw as people are coming in who haven't seen it yet)
He's clearly weighing up his options across the season. About halfway through he says to Kendall “I don’t mean to be insulting but, having been around a bit, my hunch is that you’re going to get fucked, because I’ve seen you get fucked a lot, and I’ve never seen Logan get fucked once.” Then he's scrabbling around trying to get Shiv to agree to getting pregnant as his foothold in the empire. But he knows that's doomed - probably from the "spicy pillow talk" encounter.
I personally think he only makes the decision after speaking to Shiv on the phone, and then bringing Greg on board. But he's been weighing it up. The prospect of prison changed him, and he's no longer lying to himself about Shiv.

It was an amazing episode but I stand by my comment. The show deserves to go out on a high and this season overall was the third best one.

I suppose we can guess how Logan knew to send donuts back at the start of the season.

Good episode and a decent finale, but I'm with Nano that it's the weakest series. 9/10 compared to 11/10 for the other two.
"Stick him in the confessional, that'll sort him out" - bwhahahah, an incredible one-liner. That whole scene was so hard to watch and Rom's complete inability to stop throwing wisecracks was excruciating. Even more excruciating was when he said the word "love" to Logan at the end. He looked genuinely like he was about to go into full on panic attack mode before he spluttered it out. The acting is amazing and Romulus is the highlight of the series.
S2 ended with Ken v Waystar, this time it's the Kids v Waystar. Gunna get messy.

That was some of the best acting I’ve seen for a while, Connor was also great in his scenes, shame he doesn’t get used a bit more in the show.
His quiet anger at how they overlooked him being the oldest brother was fantastic.

That was some of the best acting I’ve seen for a while, Connor was also great in his scenes, shame he doesn’t get used a bit more in the show. His quiet anger at how they overlooked him being the oldest brother was fantastic. What I loved was that despite that outburst they carried on overlooking him for the rest of the episode. I also love how the worst proposal last episode turned into the worst acceptance this episode, and how his now fiancée was seen in the background miserably necking wine in a few scenes after.
