Just watched the final episode and was really underwhelmed to be honest. Really enjoyed 5 & 6, but this one sucked. The mechanic's acting skills really let her down. She was terrible in this. She just needed a red nose and clown feet and she'd look the part she was apparently playing.
People acted so bloody dumb in this. Hiding behind small tables (or cars) Not shooting at the people stood in the street or when they ran off and not shooting at the droid when it's force field went off and shooting at the rancor that was on their side. And why bring the rancor back and not his space ship? And why did the two Mandalorians decide to roll about outside their defensive building being shot at? Why not fly up again?
I like the Wookie, but it was hit way too many times to be upright as was the rancor. I can't say I even liked the Jedi mind tricks which just felt like magicking their way out. Also how do a dozen Freetown people "outnumber" the Pikes? The Pikes had loads and two droids and Cad Bane and the other crime syndicates and still they lost? Bloody idiots.
A lot of the issue I think was the story, but the direction was poor as well I thought. Bobba Fett managed to go from one of the coolest people in Star Wars to a boring pillock who walks around slowly... Or rides things slowly. Just keep your bloody helmet on.
Oh well, at least Fennec was good. As was Cad Bane who they really shouldn't have killed. He was the best thing in the episode. The Mods were less than great.
I was also irritated by the "oh they are doomed" moments that I just knew meant a laser blast was going to hit the bad guys. It was so telegraphed I ended up sighing heavily when "our heroes" seemed to be losing.
I could go on, but I'm going to lie down and forget it.
I'd only grudgingly watch another series. Certainly wouldn't look forward to it. At the moment I feel I'd not watch anything else with Bobba in though.

For what it's worth I enjoyed the whole thing as a fun family series. Personally I thought episode 6 was the best but after asking the kids they said by far the last episode was the best. And I think that is kind of half the point, they couldn't even see any of the issues that we point to here and are oblivious to any of it. The fan service is only a bonus to them that makes it better as they recall this or that from CW or Rebels.
I'd say despite the online backlash(not so much here but the vocal SW bashers online) this has been a success for Disney because for probably 50% of their target audience this was one of the best shows ever.

I watched the last episode yesterday and thought it was pretty bad. Probably would have been ok if it was made by someone who could direct an action scene. It felt like one of the Ewok films at times. Whining Star Wars fans are the worst but hopefully the backlash means we won't see another, the character really doesn't work. And that fucking vespa gang is the worst thing to ever be in a Star Wars thing. And considering there 8 hours worth of awful shit in the prequels that's quite an achievement.

Yeah I can't help think that they were created purely out of the shitty pun/literal-ness of needing characters that mod themselves.
LET'S MAKE THEM ACTUAL MODS ON VESPAS

The last episode had all the right ingredients. However, the chef is a ducking cretin who doesn’t know when to season and to and not to hear the ingredients
To drop the ball when Grogu and Mando finally reunite takes a spectacular level of ineptness.

Whining Star Wars fans are the worst but hopefully the backlash means we won't see another, the character really doesn't work. And that fucking vespa gang is the worst thing to ever be in a Star Wars thing. The irony feels extremely thick in this pairing of sentences. Very bold! As bad as the Vespa gang might be they're not even top ten "worst things in a Star Wars thing", I'd say. I mean, Jar Jar Binks exists. The "Deathsticks" scene exists. Just like multiple scenes in The Rise of Skywalker were, by themselves, worse than that (including trying to make "They fly now!" into a meme - oh the desperation - the final and utterly demented "burying the lightsabers" scene). Or god anti-Semitic stereotype alien in the prequels (I forget his name, sadly). I could go on and this isn't even the tip of the iceberg of terrible shit in Star Wars. Your brain is obviously saving you from remembering just how truly awful SW can be! You should thank your brain for this! That said, it probably is fair to say the Vespa chase is the worst chase scene in Star Wars (though the Resistance cartoon - not to be confused with Rebels - has some chases that give it competition, but at least that literally is "for kids").

I’ve been watching this over the last couple of days. Just finished episode 5, which is hands down the best one so far, and actually decent. Bryce Dallas Howard can direct, and the stuff with Mando was actually engaging. Bringing the BD droid from Fallen Order and the N1 starfighter from Ep1 were both nice touches, and the starfighter with the supercharger engine just looked cool. Boba is a shit Mando, a shit Daimyo, and proving to just be a really poor character. They could have made him cool, they just seem to have chosen not to.
I don’t mind the Vespa gang in terms of Star Wars but I don’t think they fit Tatooine, and just further showcased how crap Boba Fett is that he both hired them and that they’ve been competent in enforcing his rule. I think they would fit in on Coruscant or somewhere high tech and wealthy, but were pretty daft as rich teens with bright polished bikes in a scavenger town on a desert planet. It’s weird how Favrau and Filoni flit between producing some of the best SW in a decade and then still seemingly not understanding what works at all. Rodriguez just shouldn’t be anywhere near it.

As someone who really loves the aesthetic of the mods and the on-the-nosedness of terrible pun, this is actually a critique I can accept. I like them, but I agree they probably work better on a more industrial planet.

So hear me out, but Temuera Morrison is actually a very good actor. Mostly. Instead of Boba they should of made the series about Rex. Basically it would be like the series Picard but based around Rex from Clone Wars senior years. Temuera would totally pull that off as well.
It would be a much worse show but maybe it'd keep someone happy.

I still stand by my assertion that bored young ‘uns spending money on their vehicles, as a sense of identity makes sense. Their Lambrettas and Mods was what gave them a sense of identity. Unfortunately, it was akk undone by the same episode saying that they had money too burn, but couldn’t afford water. But as a quick summary 5he series was okay with occasional stand out moments.

Just finished my first complete run of Mando followed by this.
A problem I had was that Boba Fett came into Mando in that 'seeing stone' episode and completely stole the show in terms of ability. Then in his own show he routinely gets his arse kicked by absolute mooks, whilst now Mando is cameo'ing and proving HIMself to be the baddest. It's like their competency is completely subject to the whims of a scene or plot.
I actually enjoyed all the Tusken stuff in this. The stuff with Mando and then Luke was then absolute magic but completely took away from the events on Tatooine. In general the show suffered from the exact same problems Game of Thrones did. If it were an RPG, you were essentially doing every possible side quest and then rushing the ending, just like in GoT. Underwhelming. It needed a couple of more episodes and realistically taking away from Robert Rodriguez, the ultimate 'style over substance' director, whose A movies alway feel B.
Just like GoT, TV can't yet seem to make large scale fighting feel anything other than small too.
All in all it was an engaging watch but it s##t the bed and rushed itself after what I thought was a really good and interesting build up.
Mando showed it can be done well. That was the best of Star Wars since the original three.

Why the fuck did he get the Rancor when he could have used Slave-One? Because, as they said, the weapons wouldn't have worked against the droids' shields.

Watched it over the weekend.
Quite enjoyed the first few episodes (especially the Tuskens), less so the Mando season 2.5 episodes, scooters were daft, ending was pish (as someone else said, they had two ships - get some aerial superiority going, ffs!).
Roughly a 5/10 overall.

I’d have assumed that the droids shields wouldn’t be greater than those of military space craft which Slave-1 has taken out before. But then using Slave-1’s cannons would probably have destroyed half the city. Also, less cool than getting your Kong on

I think he establishes that the shields are vulnerable to melee or physical attacks but energy weapons are hopeless against them.
Also, if he got Slave-1 you’d have to ask why a fleet of Pyke ships didn’t just descend on them all. Which you should ask anyway.

There's definitely a bit of emperors new clothes going on with Fett's forces being basically 10-12 people, swelled to a massive 25 with Freetown bods. Can only think it was written differently, then budget issues made them change it, as now the 'oh no uprising + surprised pika face' thing just seems weird.
Also, The Firespray is a rubbish retcon name for Slave-1

I have a feeling I’m going to show a lot of ignorance now, but has Slave-1 undergone a name change, and, if so, is it a political correctness thing?

Firespray is the ship model, Slave One is the ship name. But they obviously don't want to be calling it Slave One anymore (yes, PC) so they're using the model name instead.

It doesn't seem to be an official retcon, more that they're just avoiding saying the word "slave". But IIRC they never actually say the name of his ship in any of the movies anyway so they? And it certainly makes sense that they wouldn't want it printed on a toy.
