The improvements to Siri shown last night at WWDC24 looked pretty useful, but I'm only now realising that my most used version of Siri is that of my Homehub v1 and there's no chance that's going to filter down to that, is there. Sigh.

I don’t see why not, the Homepod is just a dumb receiver for the Siri processing server

I love how they went LOOK, as usual here at Apple your privacy is paramount which is why OUR AI will be ON DEVICE! Yes ON DEVICE! Apart from when we send it to the cloud but when we do that we'll keep it really secret, here's ten minutes on how secret we'll keep it when we send it to the Cloud. But mostly it's ON DEVICE!

*But our Chinese customers will have theirs sent off for analysis as we don’t want to lose access to that market. Soz.

Just catching up on the keynote yesterday, and it has gone a bit under the radar, but it's pretty huge that they are essentially integrating Grammarly and 1Password core functionality into the OS. 1Password is great but it would be handy not to have to pay that subscription every year.

Yeah I'll be happy to ditch 1Password, finally.
The Grammarly stuff really turned me off. Not least the guy with the huge mouth doing the presenting, who looked like an AI himself. I hate the idea that the messages I receive from people won't be written by them. I wouldn't dream of using an AI to write on my behalf. And an AI to mimic my handwriting too! Ugh.

Ive used Keychain for years and have so many conflicting passwords on there now it actually makes me want to just scrub it and use the same one for everything.

It was more like our shit is secure, neckbeards can even check the source code on our servers. And at the end they went, but also, ChatGPT! Which I presume will not run on device and will most definitely not share their source code.

The password management was part of the OSes for years, it's simply being moved to a standalone app, from Settings (iOS) and Safari (macOS).

My niece was asking if there’s an easy way to back up 30gigs of photos from here iPhone. I was thinking just hooking it up to her laptop and transferring them, but is there a way to use a lightning to female usb cable and just plugging in a usb stick? And in terms of looking at said photos on the phone once they are backed up, you’d have to transfer them first via the Files app I’m guessing? There not just magically going to show up in the Photos app once plugged in right?

Cloud storage. It’s more than worth the £1.50 a month and you don’t have to do any pissing about, it just happens.

Must upgrade soon.

But she has run out of space on her 64gb phone, even if she’d put it all in icloud, how do you make room on the phone without deleting the pictures, does it give you the option to keep them on icloud?

You can choose to keep lower quality images on the phone and the full quality ones on iCloud to free up phone storage.

Settings > General > iPhone Storage
Wait for it to populate then check how much each app is using. Podcasts and music apps are places where memory can get swallowed up. Click any podcast app and it should show you all of the programs that you’ve saved for later or that have automatically been downloaded.

Also she needs to delete some of those photos. There’s no way that’s 30 gig of photos worth keeping.

Not the M3 but the M1 Air is the best laptop I’ve had. As we head towards four years in, it hasn’t missed a beat. I’d upgrade for a fancy screen or a smaller chassis but as it is, even the 2020 chip is more than sufficient for everything I throw at it, and there’s no sign that is going to change any time soon.

They’ve made the Pro even bigger :/ By reducing the bezels. Not the actual size right? Also doesn't look like much of an upgrade from 16 to pro. Apart from the cunts still haven't bought oled to the normal phone so pro it is for me with the all the camera bullshit that I'll never use. /mug

The lack of fucks given is amazing. It does show, same with the AI thread that technology has hit a massive brick wall in terms of innovation and demand. Here’s the iPhone 16. Same as the last one but a bit faster.
