The event today seems like a good reason to start a new thread.
The new iPad mini seems interesting: bigger, full-scren display yet same device size, Touch ID in the home button, second-gen Pencil.

My current iPad mini gets a ton of usage, it's the perfect size for me for an ereader and couch device. Will probably be upgrading.

Finally Apple Fitness+ will be available in more countries. Only took them a year to add subtitles!
Hope the GF will be able to use it on Apple TV without an Apple Watch...

New watch looks nice. I’m still rocking an S4, so the always on, bigger, brighter screen gets more appealing each year. If it has the squared off form factor from the leaks I’d probably have gone for it, the renders looked nicer than the real thing. I’ll probably wait another year now.

It is a first gen Apple product, tho, so you have to expect a little self destruction.

Seems like an apt day for my 3 month old pair of AirPods Max to die. After a bit of searching about it seems like a common fault, with some people experiencing the same issue 3 or 4 replacements deep. Not what you expect for £550. I've yet to see any of the big brand wobbly head lifestyle tech Youtube channels mention it. All seems rather hush hush. Get a pair of Nothing Ear 1 and let me know if they're any good

As I drowned my iPhone X a few weeks ago I'll be all over a 13 Pro in Blue.

I do wish they'd put the ipad touchID power button on the phones. Was also hoping for some new airpods. I got replacement pros a couple months ago, they do seem to fail easily.

I'd really like an iPhone mini, shame they had to limit the 120Hz feature to the Pros.
I guess I'll stick with my X, wait if next year's model (no mini anymore it is rumoured) will be so good that I want the new one, and if not, buy yesterday's mini then.

I need a new tablet, and Android tabs are mostly a thing of the past. Do the 2019 tabs still hold up? Will literally only be for browsing, streaming and maybe the odd game of poker. So no games etc.

The GF has my old iPad Pro 10.5" from 2017. Still holds up well, snappy. She does the same things except poker. It would still serve me well TBH, if I hadn't had the itch for a new one with the Magic Keyboard.

I can’t help but feel Apple are running out of ideas. More Power and a bit better camera and screen just feels like the 13 is a stop gap release. I’m still using my trusty old XR which does all the same stuff… and the real bonus is paying only £7 a month for my SIM only contract.
I like a new bit of technology as much as anyone, but seriously - Why upgrade?

The tick tock iPhone cycle has always been the case, they just dropped the S branding. The market is dictated by 24 month phone contracts, there’s no need for a new form factor or feature list every year

Its also a bit of a double edged sword for them. I have seen a ton of 'meh, I'll just keep my iPhone [whatever]' and the thing is, yeah, you can. No problem.
The girl is rolling with an iPhone 7 and hassling me to upgrade so she can have my 11 but a) I dont really need to and b) the 7 is actually fine. She wants a bigger screen and better camera but other than that, she could get another year out of it easily which would make it a six year phone.

The ipad mini did look nice...however I'll wait till the surface event next week to decide. Windows 11 being able to run android apps (eventually) MIGHT make the surface Go a suitable competitor.

Small, incremental updates have always been Apple's thing. Each year a bit better. But that bit gets progressively smaller as the product category matures. Apple Watch has reached that point already. They can throw in some new health monitoring hardware, OK. They could increase battery life, but unless its 5x what it is today, it won't really matter.
I'd like to get an iPhone mini. But what exactly will that get me compared to my current iPhone X, really? It's a bit smaller and lighter, and I'm interested in a MagSafe wallet. The latter could turn out to be something I use for a few weeks and then not use anymore. It would be even worse if I didn't want to get a smaller phone. What real-world improvement would an iPhone 13 (Pro) bring, except for the camera, which I'm not a power user of?

I’ll be all over the iPad mini very soon. Mine is 10(!) yo and I still use it sparingly for magazines and books.

The fact they have released four new iPad models in the last few months, that utilise three different biometric methods across the range, seems really weird.

To be fair, it's only two biometric authentification methods. The fingerprint sensor is simply in a different place in the iPad than in the iPad Air/mini.

It's really just a shitty small pc that will do the basics instead of a shiny tablet that looks pretty and only does what uncle Apple says it can.

I barely see the appeal of a tablet. Having one that is about the same size as a phone is completely incomprehensible to me. Unless you're a 10 year old.

I don’t think it takes too much imagination to understand why someone would use something paperback sized over phone sized for things like media consumption, casual browsing etc. Or why bigger sized tablets are becoming decent productivity devices in their own right, I think an iPad Pro is now the defacto device for digital artists and photographers and is picking up a lot of steam in music production.

It’s not about the same size as a phone though. You might look at the diagonal size and think it’s about the same, but you’re forgetting that ipads use the 4:3 aspect ratio whereas phones use 16:9 or even wider formats. Same diagonal is going to give you quite a lot more screen surface in 4:3 because maths.

Compared to the standard iPhone model, an iPad mini has 2.5x the screen area. Even compared to an iPhone Max it's still nearly twice the screen real estate, and compared to an iPhone mini it's nearly 3x. Sure there are even bigger Androids. But for people who want their smartphone to be small (iPhone mini size), a tablet makes perfect sense for reading, surfing the web, watching videos in bed etc.

I need a slap. I absolutely don't need a new tablet. I have a surface Pro 7 that does everything I need.
However it's just a little too big for the daily browsing on a sofa situations or sitting on the desk next to main pc to take handwritten notes (yes I'm one of those people).
I keep telling myself that I don't need a new smaller tablet. I have a hybrid laptop that does it all. Why must I constantly crave shiny?!
Why must apple and Microsoft make me choose!
Why?!

I’m in for two new standard iPads for my young boys this year. Their current ones are 2013 models that have done the job but are both cracked and smashed up (we were given them years ago). I figure if new ones last 4 or 5 years they’ve been worth the money.
