That's good to know for people who already have a spare QI charger. Being Sonos, I also assumed you'd need the official charger.
One slightly niche feature of the Roam I forgot to mention is that you can use it as a Bluetooth port. So you could connect, say, a Bluetooth turntable to it, and then use the Roam to share the turntable's sound between all your Sonos devices. Pretty cool.
You can't do this with the Move for... reasons.

Ah, thats good. I do have QI chargers dotted about the house so a move might actually be on the horizon then. Do you mean the Roam? The Move can't charge wirelessly.

Seems like a needless limitation.

I posted on here about buying a Roam and was advised to invest in a wireless charging pad. I'm cheap so I just plug it in with a normal USB-C cable, a wireless pad is definitely not a required extra. I think it's a great speaker btw, I use it all the time. It's obviously not essential, but if you're anything like me you've got around 10 battery-powered devices in your home to keep on top of, in terms of charging. The worst case scenario for a smart portable Bluetooth speaker is that it's powered off and/or out of battery when you want to use it, so anything that makes charging less of a conscious effort is a huge bonus in my eyes.

Yeah it's really odd this functionality is omitted from the Move. I was hoping it would arrive via an update, but it never did. I can share the TV sound from my Beam with my Move, for example, so I'd have thought inherently the Sonos architecture would allow the sharing of any sound from one device to another, regardless of source.

Well, we sent the Sub mini back. While we could feel and hear its effects when turning up the volume on action movies, we share a wall with, albeit very tolerant, neighbours, and we simply couldn't hear a significant difference at normal listening volumes. The Arc is already quite capable of reproducing lower frequencies on its own.
Even 18 months later I'm still amazed at the sound the Arc is able to create. It sounds much wider than it actually is, and it integrates great with my suboptimally placed One surrounds. I don't miss my old setup (receiver plus 5 bookshelf speakers and tons of cables) one bit.

I think that is a very Sonos thing. You lose a lot of detail at lower volumes on everything.

This new design draws attention to itself. One of the great things about Sonos speakers was always their unassuming look.

Yeah, not a fan of the 300. The 100 looks ok though.

I’m not a fan of the big one, either, but I’m not arsed about atmos so I would probably push on to the five if I was up in that price bracket.
The smaller ones are interesting, though. If they introduced a low lag/tv mode for a pair of them they could sell a bundle. I’d get two for my desk day one.

Pretty interested in the 300s as rears tbh, mainly because I was holding off on the One for the same purpose due to lack of upward firing business. Not sure it's worth the additional cost though.

I wonder if that would be backwardly compatible with other sonos devices? Technically it's possible (as shown by that the line-ins in the fives can be streamed to any other device).

As in ‘will other devices see it as a source’? I would imagine so. You can pipe line in from the five to any other device, as you say. As far as I can see, it just treats it as a source almost agnostic of what it’s attached to.

Era 300 reviews seem generally positive, 100 a bit less so. Not that I can afford to buy either of them.

I was acually going to get an era100 for the kitchen but then the price of the Sonos One got slashed, so I got two of them instead.

So new phone app is out and...it's a bit shit, innit?
Loads of functionality has been removed, some of it quite significant. Can't add songs to a queue, can't edit a queue. Can't search locally hosted media. No sleep timer. No alarm function.
People are not happy.

*very* wise move. This is Windows 8 levels of fuckwitted software releases. It's honestly baffling out it came out in this state.

I panicked when it seemed the radio app couldn't play fip any longer as that and it's associated stations must be 75% of my playtime.
But there's a new radio France service so all is well after all.

My Sonos system (S2) doesn't work well at all these days (using Spotify), quite fed up with it considering it wasn't exactly cheap. (Though admittedly not quite enough to properly troubleshoot it beyond rebooting the lot plus the WiFi.) First song in any album or playlist generally cuts out for a good few seconds, and the app constantly disconnects and reconnects if I switch to another app. And changing volume etc is so laggy. Whereas my cheapo Wonderboom works flawlessly (admittedly with more limitations).

Yeah, there's been a gradual enshitification of the Sonos software for a few years. Lag and disconnects being major complaints. This new app was supposed to solve a lot of that. And to an extent it does: controlling units is lot less laggy. It's just a bit shit in new and exciting ways.
It's a real shame. I've been using Sonos since it was all fields and before there was phone apps for it. It used to be decent hardware that had software that really did "just work." I never even had to work out how to do a factory reset of one till a few years ago. They've totally lost sight of what they're all about

Yes, mine's been poor for a while. I thought it coincided with some local network changes, but it takes several attempts for a BBC Sounds or Spotify stream to "connect". The Spotify Connect feature hasn't worked for a long while. I tend to use Airplay for everything now.
I thought the new controller app might be a bit sketchy: the new search has been in beta for a while and is incredibly laggy when it retrieves results. That Sonos are replacing the Mac and Windows applications with a web-app indicates they're probably trying to use web technologies across the lot.

I've only got an older Play 1 and it's mostly a glorified radio these days. My biggest gripe is the widget never works so it's a pain to control quickly. Laggy volume etc too. And yeah, the beta search is shit. It feels like it's been overtaken a bit

They are very sensitive little flowers if your network is anything less than perfect. My single speakers are pretty resilient on the whole but my 5 stereo pair drop a channel fairly often. You’ll be listening to them and suddenly feel like you’ve gone deaf in one ear.

Doh. It appears that I didn't have auto update turned off. Biggest gripe is now that the widget has been removed entirely!

I don't use the Sonos app all that often - apart from adjusting EQ settings - but starting to wonder whether I'm missing out.
I normally just start music from the Spotify app.
I occasionally link speakers using the Sonos app, but you can actually link speakers by pressing + holding the play button on any non-playing speaker... sometimes it even works!

I'm not too bothered about the UI... it's fine I guess, apart from no widget... but the new app takes 57 seconds to boot on my phone. WTF?
