Agreed, the sub mini is just too expensive, especially when you consider the sub is useless on its own (a Sonos One is multi-purpose, and can be used as a stand-alone speaker or a surround, for example) so this is obviously aimed squarely at people who've already given Sonos money.
You can also get a refurbished full fat gen 2 sub for less, so why wouldn't you just do that?
Same situation with the Ray and a refurbished Beam.

I think it looks much better. The GF probably wouldn't approve of a Sub non-mini, but thinks the Sub mini looks nice and already plans to put some decorative items on it.

If it was a leaner price, I would go for the mini. I just need something to round out the sound, not rattle the windows. Two different uses, really.

The price of subs are weird. My very much entry-level 5.1 speaker set up, the accompanying sub is £5-600 (albeit for the latest iteration). I'll stick with a much cheaper one, thanks. Still packs a punch.

They are pretty complicated doowhackys now. Room correction, bluetooth app support and all that.

I'll be honest, most of it all goes over my head. I think I need to upgrade though, as there's something not quite right about music esp. Films and TV sound great - but then, there are so many variables with AV. I stream all my stuff, so it's prob source as much as anything.

I'll be honest, most of it all goes over my head. You need to tweak your Atmos settings.

Ignore everything I said earlier, I bought the sub mini 😂
The Finance Director gave it the green light at the weekend, and when she opens the purse-strings, you don’t say no.
Pairing it with a Gen 2 Beam. As usual for Sonos, it took about half a dozen attempts for the app to see it and numerous uninstalls. Now it’s paired, the connection seems rock solid.
It really does bring the beam to life in what is a relatively small space. Nice crunchy bass and unless my ears deceive me, the beam is doing a much better job on the treble now it doesn’t have to worry about the lower end.
Definitely overpriced but looks the piece and sounds great.

Don't think I've ever had a problem adding a new device to my system, and I've...er.....added a few.

I think its a fairly universal discount across all retailers, if youre morally opposed to amazon. Ive had emails from Richer and AO this morning with the same list of sonos reductions.
Very tempted with the G3 Sub for 599. If I didnt have a holiday to pay for, that would be on my xmas list for sure.

Most seem to be offering the Roam for £139, every little helps! I am most tempted by a refurb 5 from Sonos for £300

The five really is an excellent speaker. So good, you'll want to budget for another for the stereo pair.

I am poor and trying to avoid such purchases. I don't really have a room for it at the moment either. Is overkill for my relatively small kitchen and have my 5.1 in the living room (which I am not sure is the best for music but again, hard sell that I need another speaker in there)

Just got the Richer Sounds email, £119 for the Roam (non-smart speaker one), £139 for the smart.

A one is a really good kitchen speaker, tbh. They also sound great as a pair of you ever wanted an upgrade (I would actually take a pair of ones over a single 5, I think)

Yeah, I have a One in the kitchen at the moment. It's pretty much bang on, in stereo would be perfect.

A pair of ones sound great. The 5 goes lower and is a lot punchier but two ones really do very well with music that doesnt need to rattle your teeth.

I'd sooner go for a refurbished Move than a Roam, but of course it depends how you want to use it. If you want a highly portable speaker to take to the park, or on holiday, the Roam is an excellent choice.
If it's just for the garden, get a Move, which doubles up as a great kitchen speaker during colder months.
The Move also comes with a charging base, whereas the Roam's costs extra, which may seem like a small thing, but unless you remember to plug the Roam in, it'll go to sleep, it won't be available on request as part of your Sonos system, and the battery will fully deplete after a few days.
Same goes for the Move in terms of piss poor battery conservation when not in use, but the charging base gives it a home, so you're unlikely to forget to leave it on charge.

Just bought a One with a 6 year warranty for £149. Slight issue is the bloody thing absolutely refuses to connect to WiFi.
I have a Ubiquiti USG and AP.
Phone connects fine and I go through the process and it just says it can't connect. I have both 2.4G and 5G available. I have multiple SSIDs and have tried a couple and even a non Ubiquiti AP as a test.
It will connect to my phone ok for setup but not the APs. It works via cable but where I want to put it, I can't easily run a cable.
Anyone else solved this issue?

No idea why that worked and not exactly reassuring, but either way, it's now connected and sounds good!

So the Move finally seems to have got a discount today. Has anyone got one? Had one for few years, because I'm a massive Sonos fanboy and to listen to in the garden, mainly.
Even as a card carrying Sonos evangelist, I'm quite torn on it tbh. The obvious answer is that Other Bluetooth Speakers Are Available, and they're usually cheaper and when paired with a phone you're getting the same functionality.
The good thing about it is that it's a big old unit: it's a bit bigger than a One, and more than has as big a sound. The bad thing is...it's a big old unit: if you're only going to buy one BT speaker, you're compromising on portability outside of the home, and it's so loud that I rarely take it beyond 25% in the garden or I'm just going to pissing everybody off.
The switch between BT and Sonos network functionality is a physical switch: you can't switch between the two in the app.
However, despite that it probably gets more use than the other Sonos units I have, apart from the Playbar attached to my telly. It's easy enough to plonk down wherever I am around house, all my stuff is on Sonos, it sounds great, and it's easy to drop it back in charging dock. It charges quickly and battery lasts for ever. I get bored before the battery dies.
I'd probably get a roam instead though, due to reasons given above.

So the Move finally seems to have got a discount today. Has anyone got one? I have a Move and I would echo everything Chopsen said, although my advice would be different. I'd only buy a Roam if you need ultimate outdoor portability ie. taking it to the park, beach, on walks, etc. Otherwise I'd get the Move, which is a fantastic garden speaker, but also doubles up as an indoor speaker that you can easily move around your home, which is where you'll be using it 95% of the time if you live in the UK. The Roam doesn't work as well as an indoor speaker due to it's less substantial sound and the fact it doesn't have an included dock, which is sold separately, so you're already looking at an extra £45 if you choose the Roam. The Move's dock is included. The reason I think a dock is important is that both the Roam and Move's batteries discharge even when off, so without a dock you'll have to remember to keep it plugged in somewhere to keep it charged... much better to have a dock and a 'home' for your speaker that you can just drop in into. Additionally, if you want to use either speaker's smart functionality it'll need to remain powered on in standby, so it'll need to remain on charge for this too.

Won't any QI charger work on the roam?

I dont think so. Probably for the same bullshit reasons as the apple watch. It does have a USB port, so you can plug it into a phone/laptop/whatever charger or a power brick, tho.

Looks like you can...
Other charging methods
Roam can also charge using the Sonos wireless charger or a Qi-certified charger. You can find more information on other charging methods in our Charging Sonos Roam article.
Still an extra expense though

Ah, thats good. I do have QI chargers dotted about the house so a move might actually be on the horizon then.

I posted on here about buying a Roam and was advised to invest in a wireless charging pad. I'm cheap so I just plug it in with a normal USB-C cable, a wireless pad is definitely not a required extra.
I think it's a great speaker btw, I use it all the time.
