I couldn't find an existing coffee thread, so:
I bought some Sumatran decaff beans from the local coffee place for later-night coffee drinking.
It's brilliant, all that lovely coffee taste and no late night caffeine buzz to keep me up at night.
Covid times seem to have fucked up my caffeine tolerance. Once upon a time espressos, greek/turkish coffee never made a dent on my ability to sleep, but since life got surreal, that's not been the case so much.
Last 'real' coffee at 7-8pm now. 😥
Med grind and in a cafettiere for speed and ease so far, but I may drag out the V60 dripper for a smoother brew tomorrow night.
Noice.

Here is a low level coffee wanker tip I just tipped a colleague: if you use a coffee machine, get one with a thermal carafe rather than one with a glass pot that is kept warm with a hot plate.
The thermal jug will keep your coffee warm for a couple of hours where as the one with the heater will cook your coffee for 40 minutes and make it taste like shit.

My favourite is Mandheling Sumatra. If you like dark roasts, it's ace.
I'm currently on a coffee diet, though. Very controlled intake. Boo.

I've also really enjoyed these of late:
This one, on the other hand, was dire:
I like dark roasts, but this was instant acid reflux territory. Do not recommend.

I'm currently on 8 or 9 mugs a day mon-fri. It was 7 or 8 but I've started getting up an hour earlier so can fit an extra cup in now. Not coffee wanker coffee though. Did you know that Nescafe do an extra strong? I only recently found out thanks to some imported stuff from one of the povvo supermarkets or possibly the cesspool that is home bargains. It's rather tasty. So yeah, 6 or 7 mugs of that across the day between 7.30am and 11pm and a couple of hot lava javas mid morning for a bit of variety.

I was drinking 8 or 9 cups of coffee each day but it was several cups of filter coffee using a cup-top filter i have and 2 or 3 coffees from the local coffee places and then i'd have 1 or 2 cups of filter or instant sachets at home and i was FUCKING WIRED! I then switched to decaff and then got back into Iced Tea and Green Tea and now i'm moving back to coffee again. I'm like dogbot and trying to control my coffee intake so recommend me some good filter Decaff coffee, peeps. I'm bored of the usual stuff at Waitrose and ASDA.

It's a bit pricey, but I'd recommend this.

I don’t have more than 2 cups a day so I’ve avoided a proper addiction.
Currently on the squaremile sweetshop blend.

I was given a fancy DeLonghi machine for my birthday and it's been transformational. Really nice coffee, from beans, done in 2 minutes at t the press of a button. I was quite happy with (posh) instant on weekdays until now, but now it's fresh every day and every cup. Got some of these beans in it at the moment, pretty good www.favershamcoffeeco.co.uk/product/get-to-the-hopper-blend-beans/

I bought myself one of those DeLonghi machines as well during the first lockdown last year. I've tried all kinds of beans and seems to be coming back to either Douwe Egberts Red or Excellent (which is like middle-of-the-road Dutch coffee). The darker roasts tend to make me edgy after a couple of cups

Current daily favourite. Very good for under £5 a bag.

Anyone got a sage machine? Thinking of getting either the sage barista, or barista pro bean to cup machine as a xmas present for myself.
The missus is getting fed up of my grinder, V60 dripper and other coffee wanker accoutrements cluttering up the kitchen, and I'm feeling bad about the plastic waste from our tassimo machine and using that far less, so it would take it's space.
Any other machine suggestions/tips on what to look out for when choosing one would be much appreciated!

I've got the Bambino Plus and it spits out good coffee with minimal fuss. It's only little but works consistently well.
I got the smart grinder as well, which suffers a bit from clumping so I bought a ring that you place on top of the portafilter and it stops grounds from spilling out. Makes the fit inside the grinder a bit less good but it works. If you've got a bit extra cash you might want to put more money into the grinder as a result. It still knocks the socks off the cheaper Bodum grinder I used to have which is important at espresso grinds.
The tamper that comes with it is a bit crap too, I bought one of the ones which has leveller and tamper sides and instantly got much better results.

I need to get a machine, but there's just no room for another thing on our counters...
Washing up a French press every time I want a cup means I typically have no more than one a day, which probably isn't a bad thing in fairness...

Get yourself a pourover. Even smaller than a cafetiere, even easier to clean. And very cheap. And, for me, makes better coffee.

Personally, I'm a big fan of the AeroPress - it takes up next to no space, it's relatively inexpensive, and it's basically idiot-proof.

I only drink one a day, first thing in the morning, but I bought a Nespresso Vertuo Plus machine last year when I started working from home. Super simple, from start-up to drink in about 45 seconds, lots of flavour choices and the aluminum pods are recyclable. I quite enjoy it.

Have we added butter yet? No butter, although I've heard of people doing it. I'll happily put a lil bit of salt in the cafetiere, though.

The current gingerbread is ok but very spicy, and I like the tropical coconut and leggero (both iced) for morning walks in the summer. I don't pretend to know much about the different beans, etc, but I like that they make decent black coffee with just a hint of flavours.

I think you've convinced me to get an aeropress now... One for the Christmas list as I've got nothing else on there apart from cheese...
Just chucking the paper filters in the food waste sounds so much handier than the full clean every time I want to use a French press.

It also doesn't look like a penis enlarger.
