Noticed that there's a pronounced colour shift when tilting the screen - looks a lot bluer when looking at it at even a slight angle. A bit annoying, but apparently it's normal on OLED displays (though never really noticed it on my phone). Aside from that it really is a gorgeous device overall. Erm... I don't believe that to be normal for OLEDs? In fact isn't excellent colours from all viewing angles one of the main selling points of the tech? Could be whatever coating Nintendo have put on the screen to protect from scratches maybe?

Speaking of, I will need to hunt down a screen protector for it. Looks nice from the cursory look and basic set up and charge I have done.
Sadly the case I want is the SMT V one so not out until next month...

Is SMTV out next month? That game quickly went from "this is never coming out" to "shit, already?"

It is an OLED thing, as it happens on my Galaxy S10 as well (which was a high-end phone when I bought it a couple of years ago). It's not the washed out effect that LCDs has, just a shift in the colour temperature. The viewing angle is still brilliant and improved over the LCD model.

I only piped up as I don't recall it from the Vita, I'm failing to see it on my iPhone, and never noticed it on my OLED TV where I frequently sit off-axis.

Hmm, I'm looking at the Vita now and it has the same issue, a slightly greenish tint when you tilt it! It's definitely more pronounced on the white home screen of the Switch though.

It's rather lovely, innit? I like it a lot. The less-wobbly build quality has - so far - resolved my main issue with the original one. The actually-useful kickstand is nice. And the screen is, of course, rather rather. So.. yeah! About as good as I could have hoped, really.

This is the first 'current' console I've owned since the PS2, and the first I've ever bought anywhere near release day.
Got BotW. And looking for recommendations, especially 2D platformers, Metroidvanias, beat 'em ups and racing games. I've still to finish Samus Returns, so Dread will wait until later in the year. Is Hades any good on Switch?

Hades is great on switch. Rec wise it would be the usual offerings, MarioKart 8, Super Mario Odyssey, Luigi's mansion 3, Splatoon 2, Rayman Legends. GBA Castlevania collection to name a few.

Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze if you haven't already played it. On the last boss now and it's been properly good. Must play 2D platformer. There's NSMB U as well and Oddysee and Mario 3D World for 3D platformers. Skyward Sword HD is worth playing if you're a Zelda fan.
Rayman is really fucking zany, so do bear that in mind. I had to stop playing it it was pissing me off so much. If it can squeak or squeal or have a wacky face drawn on it, it will. I'm bitter because I had assurances that it wasn't a bit crazy
Bayo 2 (and 1) if you want action, Monster Hunter Rise
Hollow Knight and Axiom Verge for metroidvanias (though you've probably already played them elsewhere)

Rahman is a good shout, should look lovely on the Oled too. Its much more challenging than Mario Deluxe. I still don't get the love for it but most people swear by Hollow Knight.

I imagine the Ori games will look very nice on OLED, they were pretty enough on Plasma TV.
As for the OLED, not played mine properly as I didn't get a screen protector or case (I want the SMT V case but not sure about the screen protector). I see Nintendo have a bundle of I can find one in stock which would work as a temporary case I'd needs be. Off to Game in town I guess...
What protectors have you lot used?

Haven’t. Glass screen with a pre-applied protection (to prevent shattering) should be enough. Would rather not have more layers dulling the screen.

Thanks for the recs all. Added quite a few to the wishlist.
Was surprised to find a pre-applied screen protector as it saves me the pain of trying and failing to apply a screen protector without noticeable bubbles. I still feel like I need one though.

I could chance the protector, I am used to that needing to be the first ritual on a new handheld/phone, but definitely need to grab a temporary case to put it in. I do generally take care of my stuff and it usually lasts (bar my coddled DSiXL which managed to get a screen issue that appears to be cable related and a hassle to fix ..)

Ok, so I have an OLED preordered in Game, here in Spain but currently debating internally if it’s worth picking up. I already have a regular Switch from 2018. Today is D-Day 😂. If I don’t get it today the preorders gone.
Anyone coming from a launch model, is there a massive difference with the screen?
I only play in portable mode.

I’d say it’s a significant step up in portable. Larger screen size does show, and the colours pop really vibrantly.
For me, the only thing on my mind is how uncomfortable it is compared to the Lite. I didn’t see many reviewers making this comparison, probably because it’s so obvious.
I know this sounds weird - and maybe some OCD - but the rough edges along sides of joy cons get on my nerves. The Lite as solid plastic, no connections in plastic. Joy con product build (connecting plastic) make this new one feel lower quality, in some ways.

Racing Virtua racing and hotshot racing are great if you like arcade racers and time trials specifically Beat em ups Not played many but the capcom beat em up bundle is great and I hear streets of rage is brilliant. I'd personally recommend most of Nintendo's 1st party games but outside of those my favourites to play on switch have been: Sayonara Wild Hearts Tales of Iron Stardew Valley Tetris 99 The banner Saga Kentucky route zero What remains of Edith Finch A short Hike Creaks Huntdown There are tons of other great games but those would be my recommendations

The only thing really holding me back from upgrading is wondering what’s coming out in future? Zelda 2, Bayonetta 3, any other big releases lined up?

First thing I did was put a screen protector on straight out of the box. Had a near miss with the old one where the screen protector shattered but the screen was fine, I'm usually very careful with devices as well.
Can recommend the orzly one, comes in a 4 pack for about 12 quid.

Not that I have a problem with that, just wanted to make it clear it isn't a brand new game in the series
And Metroid Prime 4 but who knows when it's due
New SMT as well (think you mentioned you were playing Persona so might be your thing)

Watched the video of SMT and I don’t think it’s my bag baby. I keep talking myself into then back out of an oled, probably won’t as I’m anticipating an immediate buyers remorse

Ah, what a headache Nintendo accounts are with multiple Switches. Unfortunately the wife bought some digital stuff for me on her account and the only way for me to be able to play them on my Switch is either using her account while 'online' or by making her account on my Switch a primary which then leads to no-one else on the family (tv-attached) Switch other than her...
In other notes, I have tested the OLED Switch a bit on Metroid Dread and it indeed looks very pretty. Metroid is fun too.

Sorry for my crushing out-of-the-loopness, but is the Borderlands Collection worth it for £25.

Fucking screen protectors. Always end up with a screen that looks like it's infected with smallpox.
