Maybe for the Switch 2, Nintendo should sell it as a stand-alone handheld with a 1080p OLED screen - maybe even without detachable joycons - for around £200.
Then, for the people who want play on a TV, sell a separate dock (which comes with a "pro controller") that contains all the additional hardware (basically an external graphics card + HDMI out) to output games in 4K to a TV.

Just seen Metroid on an OLED switch and it’s fucking beautiful. In fact, better looking than many of my PS5 games. Simply, stunning. Better looking than a ps5 game on an oled screen? Hyperbole, no? That was a bit of a weird thing to say, wasn't it |

Not really. Nintendo definitely need to either raise their game or lean into their asthetic very hard and make the most of it.
It wouldn't be the first time they've been in this position, but there's definitely a lack of software and/or hardware to back up any rhetoric at this particular moment

You know good art and creativity can beat 4K graphics, right? Compared to Returnal, yes, I’d say Metroid is graphically better, thanks to the art design. I’d say the same about Breath of the Wild on the OLED screen, portable, compared to Returnal, too.

It's probably also worth pointing out that the game originally held up to demonstrate that the Switch didn't need an upgrade was Mario Kart 8. Which is a straight port of a Wii U game, which was a console technologically from three generations ago. So at least the argument is consistent. I'm going to guess that Worlds is 105 years old, with knackered eyes.  |

You know games can have good art and good rendering tech beneath it? You know you can have games with good art and creativity that then play much better with actual stable performance? Having a more powerful Switch only improves upon the stuff you already love. Honestly don't get your perspective on this. You would rather play games at a lower resolution and framerate? If you had the disposable income you wouldn't like the option to play Breath of The Wild at 60fps with a resolution above 720? |

I would have liked an improved hardware version of the Switch (although not sure if a 1080P screen would be as important at the screen size) but better efficiency for battery life and less resolution scaling/framerate dips would have been nice. But I don't have my own Switch, just a family one ttached to the TV so went for this as equivalent to my DSiXL.

The fucking keyring freebie is bigger than the PS5. I'm going to use it to beat my (imaginary) PS5 to dust, because my eyes refuse to perceive its hideous high resolution trash. |

Metroid Dread is not "better looking" than Returnal. Even on OLED. In any way.
You can prefer it more, but it is objectively not better looking. I can count the pixels on the Samus model - boy does this need to be higher res. :-D

Opened mine and yeah, it does look and feel a lot more premium. Certainly more iPad than a cheap Android tablet.
Screen is really nice too, but the white seems off for some reason? Probably because the colour temperature is a lot warmer than my OG Switch.

Noticed that there's a pronounced colour shift when tilting the screen - looks a lot bluer when looking at it at even a slight angle. A bit annoying, but apparently it's normal on OLED displays (though never really noticed it on my phone).
Aside from that it really is a gorgeous device overall.

Finally sat down with it. Bloody lovely looking thing. Even received my old joycon back from Nintendo repair and it doesn't rattle on the rail like the old switch. Really nice upgrade.

It is really nice but I did notice the edge of my left joy con, along the side, is a little sharp along the connecting plastic.
Feel along the side of both joy cons - anyone else got that?

Doesn't seem like that on mine. I know this is a 'meh' upgrade to some, but the screen is lovely. Gives games a new lease of life, well besides the number that run like my ass. Metroid is very nice and Splatoon 2 looks damn good now.
