Bought this at launch but only put 1.5 hours in, and didn’t have time for it. I was partly demotivated by the tough first boss.
Started it again a few days ago, passed the second boss and onto Dairon (again). Probably my favourite Switch game now. Can’t see me putting it down, what a game, with its intricate map and ebb and flow.
Easily the most intelligent platformer I’ve played on Switch.

I have put 60 hours into it so far, over 8 playthoughs. Haven't touched it since before even the free updates, but I'll no doubt be back to it in the near future. It is so good. The controls are some of the most satisfying I've ever experienced.

That’s very true, I think it is the tight controls that do it for me. Exquisite!
Can see myself going back over old ground to find more secret areas.
Never played a Metroid type game for longer than an hour. Maybe it was lack of concentration but as I get older (old?) it’s quite exciting to get into a new genre, especially one like this where I’m always hearing about this ‘Metroidvania’ stuff.

I've had this loaded on my switch for ages but only just round to firing it up for the first time.
Really like it. Really good. And it reminds me how I enjoy super metroid - the enjoyment for this is as good as that which is ace.
That bloody first boss though. I've just got to it and had a handful of goes but still can't do the bellend.
I've noticed he does a stab when you slide under him and only just read online you need to parry that.
But bloody hell, 3 phases for a first boss!
*and* I'm playing on rookie!
I can't even leave and go get more health and missiles so I'll just have to learn the bastard properly because I'm definitely doing this game

When it comes to bosses, definitely look out for parry opportunities and also play defensively. You can get health back from projectiles when needed, but the game does generally punish recklessness. Especially the last boss.

Nice one, cheers. Yeah I was just button mashing as I didn't think it'd be that difficult but it's obvious I've got to learn this one. I can normally last until about half way through the 3rd phase, so I just need to be more patient I think and get the parries in

Once it clicks all the bosses become easier. On my second run through the game I had no trouble at all. But yeah, not the kinds of bosses you expect from a Metroid game. I do enjoy them, though!

I was comparing it to super metroid bosses and I was getting frustrated but then I realised I've played that for about 10 millions hours so it's hardly surprising

Yeah I generally hate bosses in games, especially difficult ones, and that’s why I gave up on this first time around. That first boss.
Just be patient, don’t have to attack so quickly and constantly. After I composed myself and beat him, the game got even better. So be persistent.
I’m now stuck at the round boss with the eye thing and snapping re tentacle/arms - the one where you hit the green buttons either side.

Yup, I'm exactly the same - they put me in a more intense mindset, and that leads to panic and mistakes all the time. Can't help it, and never have!
But yeah, I was working it out so I can learn what I need to do at the right time etc.
Got to do it, because the main game itself is so good.
Please tell me you can teleport later? Any chance of faster traversal?

There is another way of getting between areas, but it won't save you much time really. It feels like these shortcuts are designed with speedruns in mind, so until you nail the order in whcih to use them, you'll probably be walking back and forth a fair bit.

Yeah the way the game loops back around levels and corridors is amazing. The map design blows me away.
Dont give up with those bosses! Just beaten the one I was stuck on. Now at Ghavoran (not a spoiler).
The game just keeps getting better with cool areas.
Bosses: just learn their patterns. No panic. Stay composed. Don’t rush. Dodge / shoot stuff coming off them and gain the dropped items nice and slowly.
Doesn’t matter how much time it takes in one boss go, you could keep dodging stuff forever but learn the patterns!

Think I'm ready for a second playthrough of this now. I bet I'm rusty enough by now for the bosses to be challenging bastards again.

Getting the morph ball / varia suit was not obvious at all. There's so much going backwards and forwards. Now the map is starting to make more sense! I'm now a bit stuck on a boss that's spewing nasty gunk from his belly, can't quite nail down the pattern of the projectiles.

I think Kraid is the toughest boss in the entire game. I've never felt I've mastered beating them. The best advice I can give is the same as for any boss really. Focus on minimising the hits you take and shoot projectiles to replenish your health and missiles.

It's the three projectiles at once that seem to be getting me killed the most. Not sure if there's a way to dodge that?
I'm doing okay getting energy from the projectiles but they're so unpredictable my health just seems to tread water enough and then bam those 3 at once just take me out.

Gah. It's been a while since I last played, so I can't really be more specific. I remember the first stage is the projects from above. The claw things he throws at you. That's easy enough. You have all the time in the world to shoot those and its easier to so that than it it is dodge.
The second phase is tougher though. I can barely remember the pattern I used as I struggle down there. There's a few approaches to dealing with the projectiles down there for sure, but maybe somebody else has a solid strategy.
