Surprised there wasn't already a thread for this game. New trailer just appeared on YouTube, looks great. I enjoyed Samus Returns on my 3DS when I played it last year so really looking forward to this

The Galactic Federation need to invest in some 'Planetary Approach' training for Samus. I'm sure she crash lands at the start of all* her adventures!!
Looks good though. Not played a Metroid since.. erm.. the Wii maybe.

That was not a great trailer. Was still waiting for it to start proper when it abruptly ended. I have not been moved one way or the other in purchasing this game

Not watched the new trailer yet but already tool a gamble and pre-ordered the LE for this one. Hoping it is good. May have to get around to actually playing through Returns at some point too...

Yeah, the new trailer not so great, no gameplay, but the earlier videos looked good enough for me to preorder.

Makes me want a sequel to shadow complex.

Apparently the dev worked on the PS3/360 Castlevania games. Never played them, any good or should we be worried?

Genuinely surprised Nintendo got MercurySteam on this. I haven't played them but the Castlevania games they made looked a bit rubbish, pretty sure the 3DS one was a bit rubbish. You'd think Nintendo could cherry pick developers. I remember thinking Samus Returns didn't look like anything special. My feelings are about the same for this

Samus Returns was pretty good tbf. Not a top-tier Metroidvania, but as a remake it did a pretty good of fleshing out the original.
So yeah, looking forward to this and I'm confident that it will be pretty good as well. It's just nice having a proper new Metroid game again.

Yeah, I do think the brand will elevate it for a lot of people. Nintendo innit

I do think it would be nice to see them use a team who can do high quality 2D art going forward rather than the polygonal 2.5d style bit I think we will be stuck with this style.

Not feeling this. I was one of the few that didn't like bloodstained as this feels a bit like that.
Saying that shadow complex worked in this kind of style.
I agree with above though prefer "proper" 2d this sort of game.

Agreed about proper 2D being better, but again, Samus Returns still looked quite good on the 3DS (especially in 3D). This one should look good on the new OLED screen.

I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to metroid games, but I think this drops on my birthday (unless I've missed a slip), so being such a huge fan of the series, seems too serendipitous to miss out.

I’m currently playing through Super Metroid as I don’t think I’ve ever completed it; back in the day I used to watch my brother play through single player games.
Looking forward do Dread but I wonder about the length of the game. I can’t see if being longer than 8 hours, I hope I’m wrong.

10 hours for me would be spot on.

Yeah, Metroid games have never exactly been long (well, I suppose the Prime games could be), so 10 hours max would be fine with me.
I really need to pull my finger out and give Samus Returns a go via emulation. That and the game that it rebooted are the only two I haven't played.

I can do Super Metroid in just over 2 hours, as I play it regularly. I hope it's not too long, I'm more likely to replay a game if its shorter.
I've played TLoU2 once, where as I've played RE2 and now RE3 quite a few times.

I have Samus returns on my modded 3DS and the Metroid games on my gba. I have only ever played the snes version. Don't really want to start one now, with Dread being what, 7 weeks away? Burnout innit.

Ah yeah, for some reason I had it as a November launch in my head. I'll hold off in that case.

If you liked super (one of my fave games of all time) you should really try and track down fusion and zero.

I'd say Fusion and Zero Mission are every bit as good as Super Metroid.
I've got the Samus Returns remake, but never found time to play it. Really hoping dread lives up to the rest of the series, though. Really enjoyed Mercury Steam's first Castlevania game (the one that Kojima oversaw), but never played the sequel or the 3DS game.

If Super Metroid had the same controls as Fusion/Zero Mission it would be perfect. As it is, it'll just have to settle being my all time favourite game that's very nearly perfect.

Isn't Fusion more linear? I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't put it next to Super

Yeah, Fusion funnels you down a fairly specific path and it's rare you don't know where to go next. There's nothing on the same level as that bloody glass pipe in Super, anyway.

Yep, I remember being stuck on that point for ages back in the days before gamefaqs etc. Must've gone around the whole map twice shooting, bombing, and xraying everything. Was such a fantastic "oh shit" moment!

Isn't Fusion more linear? I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't put it next to Super It is, but there is still paths to unlock when you get progression upgrades, and the sprites and anims are some of the best in the series. Any self respecting metroid fan should play it. It's still a good game, it's just not the best metroid game. It's basically the Dark Souls 2 of the metroid series! 😉
