But that would make it the best one
It's definitely still a good game. There's quite a bit more story as well if I recall. Isn't that where all the Adam/Lady stuff comes from?

Yeah, that's where it started at an acceptable level until Other:M took a big shit on it.
I also need to play through the Japanese version of that actually, which apparently isn't too bad according to someone from the old place.

I'm proper in the mood for Metroid now. Super Metroid or wait for the new one? I actually want to play the GBA Metroid remake so I can rock out to Kraid's theme but Nintendo have not made that one available

You could totally get through Super in a few hours, even if you're rusty.

Yeah, Super is a great one for powering through in a few hours. It's probably time for my annual run in fairness.

Whats your best completion rate? I finally hit 100% of items during lockdown last year and it was awesome! I've never used a guide for Super Metroid. I did it all from memory (I've probably beaten the game around 30-odd times, so it's actually not remotely impressive).

Probably only about 85-90%

Yeah, same. I only play it though because I like the locations and story, even though I've completed it countless times...
Maybe I should try for 100% one day though.

100%, but I think I missed a couple on my last run. Some of them have ridiculously evil placement, like the one in the room above the glass pipe in Maridia where you need to get momentum for a speed booster vertical jump in an adjacent room and have to get the launch spot perfect. Those quicksand bits can fuck off too!
I know what I'm doing with myself today!

I actually don't find Fusion that much more linear. Once you're inside the various zones it's about the same as any other one, they all have fairly linear paths through the zones once you're in the right place.

There's always a critical path in Metroidvanias but the good ones make you feel like you're discovering it for yourself. Fusion would just tell you where to go next, usually because something bad was happening and you should definitely go there right now
As for completion, I quite like knowing there's still things in the game I haven't found. Leaves the game some mystery and there's always the possibility of finding something new each time you replay it. It's the same with the heart pieces in A Link to the Past - one of my favourite games and I've finished it loads over the years but never found all the heart pieces

That's because you're a man of impeccable taste, possibly woman
I'd put Mario World with them. Those 3 games are perfection

Damn... Wish I hadn't seen this on my news feed. Would've been a nice surprise in the game It's in the trailer above which I'd avoided watching.

I'm avoiding it. Been playing Samus Returns over the Bank Holiday I've owned it for ages but never played it. Played the original (metroid 2) on game boy years ago, but with the new make over and passing of time, it all feels pretty new.
Been good so far, works pretty well in pseudo 3D, I imagine Dread would be similar.
Getting me more excited for this.

Played through most of Super yesterday, four main bosses down and ready to take on the final one. Only missing two missiles and one super missile with 3:45 play time, and I dawdled a fair bit and went off in the wrong direction when I got the power bomb (I always seem to carry on upwards instead of going back to Norfair)
Damn I love that game! Getting really hyped for Dread now and wishing I'd got the Amiibo when I had a chance.

Haha, yeah, I've completely lost the ability to do that. I just held off on anything that needed it until I got the spring ball.

Avoiding the trailers. Only watched the E3 reveal and that’s it. I want everything to be nice and fresh.
For the people that haven’t yet and can, play Super/Fusion/Zero Mission/Returns beforehand! I like all of them.

When is this out?
I might be more inclined to play it after Super. Learning abilities from the wildlife is inspired. The game never really tells you how to do anything, just gives you new abilities and lets you get on it. The rate at which you get upgrades and abilities is so good too
Samus is a terrible person though. Commits genocide and then takes the one remaining baby and sells it to science for experiments and exploitation

It's such a shame that there's no straight forward way to play the series on the Switch before Dread comes out. You would have really thought they would give players the ability to do so. But then this is the same company that can't find the logic in releasing the Prime Trilogy on Switch after all these years.

Yeah, GBA games on the not virtual console would be great
I've only played part of Metroid Prime so I'd be really happy to play those as well
Is there a metroid anniversary coming up? They might make them available to download for a few hours as a special treat

It's the 35th anniversary this year. Be thankful we're even getting a Metroid game at all I suppose.

I'm still puzzled that they can't just release the GBA games that I've already bought for the Wii U on the Switch. It's far less hassle for me to just download a dodgy ROM than to dig that thing out. Surely with the inside knowledge that they have it'd be no problem at all to get emulated versions running on different hardware.

Nintendo is just weird. I suppose they're getting the same money from subscriptions they'd be getting if they put GBA games up so there's even less incentive than when you had to pay for each game on the Virtual Console I really want to play the Metroid remake though. DO IT, Nintendo! Are there any other really good (actually good) metroidvania games on the Switch apart from HK, Axiom Verge and actual Metroid?
I'm already aware of Guacamelee but it looks a bit zany. I wanted to strangle Rayman Legends for being wacky - I actually felt hatred for it. I don't deal well with wacky
