Just completed 500 miles of my 1000 mile charity run. Hoping to ramp it up a bit in the next month.
Also completed SilverCloud course. I'm now starting AWS training. I flunked "Maintaining Mindfulness", but then what the hell, I focused on meditating rather than doing a course telling me to do so.

Still plugging away with the Spanish. Not really making much progress though.
Think I need someone to explain to me why some things work the ways they do now, rather than just trying to remember it all parrot fashion.

Have you tried buying kids books in Spanish or watching some movies? I found that helped a bit in mandarin. Also, check the way you're learning, as going back over things you learnt after a week and then again after another 2 weeks and then after another month is apparently the best way of remembering it. It is hard though if you're not using it.

Yeah, I watch kid shows / netflix etc and that's fine. I can understand the language OK and get my point across, but I'm continually making massive errors with syntax, tenses and masculine / feminine stuff.

Ahhh, that grammar stuff... I hate all that. Maybe a school textbook? Find out what the local schools are using (I can find out what my kids are using as they are both studying Spanish) and buy that? Maybe get a tutor in once a week / month?

Hiya. My kids are using Listos! (ISBN: 0-435-42904-3) for Spanish.

My Spanish is terrible and I live here so there is that. To be fair I did the first couple of basic levels but never kicked on. The problem is that we don't really use it much, we both work in English(the wife does work in French and Spanish as well, she speaks it better than me) and so it's just basic interaction when at the shops or post office etc... I'm generally fine with these unless they want to start off on something else.
Am getting a bit of practice in with our new gardener and am surprised by what I understand. Plus when I sliced my hand open and got to ride in a nee-naw I did really well in the ER although they did ask if I was French because I had an accent.

Annoyingly my wife completely gets all the grammar stuff (she studied languages at university), but her Spanish vocabulary isn't anywhere near as comprehensive as mine.

My wife being French is probably more used to languages than I am, I have always been hopeless at them. Plus when we moved here part of it was her work place offered Spanish lessons because she would need to know it so she kind of had to learn quickly.

Out of nowhere I decided to take up calligraphy because it seemed like it might be relaxing. Have spent three sessions getting used to the pen and practising different strokes (fnar). Got my rolling ruler today so I can draw some guidelines and start practising letters at the right size. It's definitely a chilled way to pass the time.

I've ordered a big shop to cook a heap of meals for freezing over the weekend to make sure I eat properly again. Making a big lasagne, pasta sauce, black bean chicken, paprika and pepper chicken, pulled pork and ribs. Veg etc is coming as well.

Or I'll just freeze the meat and not eat. (Please)

Cook it you cunt.
You know what? This is perhaps silly but have you tried something like the simply cook boxes? Dead easy, a handful of ingredients, simple method and awesome results. Actually got me making stuff I enjoyed recently and didn't even take long or cost me more than my normal shop.
/not a spokesman
Bear in mind given the choice I normally just open a tin of beans / not bother eating when left to my own devices. These made me enjoy cooking again.

I need someone other than me to take care of or it all goes to a piece of cheese rolled up in a bit of ham and that will do for the day

Preferably who speak little English so you can’t fall back on it when feeling lazy / frustrated? I lived in Mexico for 2 years before making any real progress, which coincided with me starting to see a Mexican girl who didn’t have a lot of English so I started to put in more effort out of necessity.

Pilled pork almost done, utensils arriving tomorrow as I no longer have a roasting tin, tongs or wooden spoons/spatulas. Chicken marinating and going in the oven in an hour.
I seem to have bought a pork belly as well. Nice.

Still enjoying the calligraphy. Each individual letter takes two or more strokes to form and time just flies by when you're focused on it (yeah, I know). Wrote my first phrase today instead of just practising letters. I'm using Pilot parallel pens at the moment but there's a whole world of fancier looking pens, brushes and ink to get into that aren't actually very expensive at all. This could be even better than being a coffee wanker.

An update. Been enjoying Pilot calligraphy pens but wanted to have a go at copperplate so I bought a dip pen set that included a copperplate nib. Didn't get on with that one, needed way too much pressure, so I ordered three more to try and an oblique holder for them. This is an insanely cheap hobby. All good quality nibs and the most expensive was less than two quid. One was 89p. First one I tried is really nice.
