Got another blacksmithing thing booked up, also doing my track cycling accreditation at the moment. My idea of self improvement seems to be just fucking about playing with cool stuff and I’m happy with that I did a blacksmithing course (intro training day) on Friday. It was bloody ace.

It’s good isn’t it, did an intro thing last year and going back for a 3 day kitchen knife session in December. I want to set up a forge in the the garden when I’ve got time

Enrolled on Mindfulness for Wellbeing and Peak Performance course on Future Learn and also and Introduction to Cyber Security. I'm continuing to do daily virtual runs on my cross trainer. I did 22 km around Amsterdam this morning. Tomorrow I'm going to do Prague or Pompei. Which cross trainer do you have

I wasn't especially good, but I reckon with some practice I could get better. Loads of fun though. Did they have the electric induction heaters? Those are really impressive. Compact, clean and easy to use.

Nah it was all gas, but the guy has a coke forge that he uses sometimes. I want to set up a Japanese style charcoal forge eventually, might wait until the kids outgrow the trampoline so I can put a bigger shed where it’s currently standing

I don't think that I'll ever have the room for anything worthwhile of my own but I can definitely see the appeal. Induction heater was super impressive. A metal box about the size of a small MIG welder, with a coil on the back. Turn it on, steel goes in the middle of the coil and BAM, glowing red hot in seconds. Amazing stuff.

It's a great piece of kit with a lifetime warranty and connectivity to iConsole+ and kinomap to allow auto resistance change. Downsides to it are it's not got auto incline and it's not great when reversing direction (doesn't feel as good as a gym one). Aside from that it's really good , well built with good after sales and it's taken a lot of bashing about. It's a heavy so and so. www.jtxfitness.com/tri-fit-incline-cross-trainer-weight-loss

Just signed up for a 1000 mile "Stay on Target" Stormtrooper challenge. My boss who was a huge Star Wars fan died last month and I thought I would do this in memory of him. My wife says she will put some money to his chosen charity when I complete it (in about 6 months).
I've got 1599.34 Km to go.
Aside from that I'm on week two of the Mindfulness for Peak Performance and Wellbeing course I started, so almost half way there. Really enjoying it, though its hard to find time to fit it in tbh.

Was getting a bit fat, like a hideous belly that was making me look like Dr Robotnik, so I'm cutting out booze and snacks / desserts for a month. well, I'll allow myself some snacks on boardgame night, but in moderation.
Got a bicycle now too.
Also I've been trying to make myself draw more. Bought a new tablet to try and make me do. so far it's been working.

I should maybe have been a bit more specific, I actually bought a drawing tablet, that is designed specifically for that function - it connects to a pc and acts as a third screen, it's not an all-purpose tablet like a Samsung or iPad etc. Specifically it's an xp pen artist12 pro That said there some decent programs available for general tablets, but my knowledge is pretty limited.

Thanks Doc. Not quite what I was looking for. I guess I can use pen and paper.
I'm halfway through my Mindfulness course and starting week 3 and I'm 2% into running 1,000 miles. I'm pleased I am still doing the course and I'm glad I managed to force myself to do a run this morning.

Nearly finished my Mindfulness course (last half of the last week). I'm considering paying for the course so I can get a certificate, but it seems a bit much (£140 for a year of certificates from any courses I finish) considering I'll probably never look at the certificates again and won't use them for any jobs. I could use the money right now for other things, like some ladders to fix issues on my house.
I've also started a 1,000 mile run for charity (my boss died a month ago and his family want to save for a piece of equipment which might have saved his life) and I'm 100km in having started on the 15th... its going to take me a long long time to complete.

What charity is it you're running for? That's a fair distance. Is there a timescale?

What charity is it you're running for? That's a fair distance. Is there a timescale? My boss died as a result of a cancer and needed treatment by a photopherisis machine (helps with recovery from bone marrow transplants), but the nearest was too far for him to travel to as he was too unwell. They think had the hospital he was in had one it might well have saved his life. He was only 44. His wife and family have decided that they would like to buy a photopherisis machine for Leeds Hospital, but they cost in the region of £150,000. I was looking for something I could do and saw that there was a "Stay On Target" challenge online where you could run, 1, 10, 100 or 1000 miles and I thought that would fit. He was a big Star Wars geek and I just thought in 6 month's time or so when I've completed it, people might want to donate as he was really well thought of. I might not make much money, but my wife's said she would donate and it also helps me come to terms with it myself, as he was a good mate as well as a good boss. I cried when I heard he'd died and I'm filling up again now thinking about it. So, its just me running a series of distances, which will total 1,000 miles. I have to send the website photographic evidence of my run distances (e.g. a photo of my fitness band after a run) and when I get to the end I get a Storm Trooper medal which says I've run 1,000 miles. Doing the challenge I give money to the websites charity anyway, so either way I'm doing some good. [edit] Oh and I'm recovering from suspected long covid (or similar) from December, so this will also help me recover more from that. I've been exhausted a lot over recent months as it seems my lungs took a bashing from whatever lurgy I had, which isn't great for an asthmatic.

I look forward to wuntyate's totally legit Paranormal Investigation youtube channel sometime soon. Either that or he's doing it to explain to the wife that the stains on the curtains are ectoplasm and he's got a certificate to prove it.

quitsking I wish you all the best with that challenge man. That's a fair distance and even when I ran fairly regularly it would take me 10-11 months to clock 1000 miles. Good on you but listen to what your body tells you and if it gets too much, especially with your long covid, then please don't push it. It's an amazing gesture regardless.

Thanks wunty. My body is aching from this morning's 18km run (I've done 121 km since the 15th). I'll be taking the next couple of days off but I'm hoping to do 10+ km a day. I'm hoping 6 months, but my aged body might get in the way of that. It will be less than a year. I'm going to throw in some yoga as well to hopefully help with the moaning and groaning that my body will no doubt have. That and hot baths I'm not sure I'll raise a huge amount, (I'm not into asking people for money), but even if its £20, its something.

Yikes. I recently did 5-7K a day for 30 days and that was tiring! I'm seriously impressed. Keep it up. Send me a message in a couple of weeks when I'm a bit more solvent (ie when I haven't spunked my earnings on a dodgy internet paranormal course) and I'll fire some money your way.

That's good of you, but you need to make sure you can keep GhostBustering first and foremost. I mention mention when I'm at each "100" on here. I've decided against spending on Future Learn Unlimited. I can't justify the money when I can do the courses and all this really gives me is a piece of paper on top. Plus I dont need the stress of thinking I need to be always doing a course so I get value for money. I will keep doing courses though.

Yeah I get what you mean with the courses. This is purely because I've always loved reading about ghosts and shit. It's just a bit of fun as opposed to actually wanting to do anything with it. I'm forever reading / listening to real life accounts of hauntings and I'm always fascinated by them. I'm 100% a skeptic and don't believe they exist sadly, although I do think there's a wide range of factors that do seem to converge at just the right time sometimes, which can produce something that could be interpreted as supernatural activity. Hypnagogia for instance is a good example of why people sometimes seem to see ghosts and experience phenomena after they've gone to bed.
Anyway, I have a shit memory so I'll certainly try to remember and pop a bit of cash your way when I can as it's a good thing you're doing, and for a good reason.
