Longines is about to release the Legend Diver in a new, non-rediculous size (39mm), which I would be even more inclined to buy than the Baltic Aquascaphe Dual Crown:

Planning on buying a used Omega watch. Any tips on how to proceed? Never done this before.
The seller sells online only on Chrono24, but they are only 20 minutes away from where I live, so they agreed to meet in person. Which is a good sign so far.
The watch is about 10 years old, would you insist on a service done by Omega to ensure its authenticity?

I've seen the watch in person now. From what I've read what to look out for the watch seems genuine. It's a Planet Ocean 1st gen Liquid Metal Limited Edition. They offered to send the watch to Omega for a service and certificate of authenticity prior to purchase, so zero risk actually.
But to think I could buy a Longines Legend Diver, a Longines Master Collection Perpetual Calendar and a Tudor BB58, all of them new, for the same price…?

The liquid metal plant ocean is collectors piece now, 42mm but not super thick like the new ones and it has a ceramic bezel (first omega to do so). its a classic. However it was a popular superclone so deffo get it checked out

Yeah it really is the perfect size. Not too thick and the bezel is 40mm (42mm is including the crown guards). It fits really well, especially because of a pretty short L2L.

I would definitely want it checked over by Omega, or a reputable dealer/service agent. As clemfandango mentioned, there are a lot of convincing fakes of these in circulation, but it's a cracker.
I'd be checking with Omega themselves once the dealer has had it serviced if possible (no idea if they would tell you), just checking it has indeed been sent to them, as again, fakes of service docs are possible.

Yeah, would definitely be doing that. And it looks just great, even on my dainty wrist IMO:

Not so long ago, I couldn't imagine buying a watch without a date complication. Now that I'm thinking about adding more watches to the rotation, I'm not so sure about that anymore. I don't want to store my watches in a watch winder, so I would have to set them often. And setting the date woul b another thing I'd have to do every time I put one on.
What makes the decision harder is that sometimes I switch watches daily, sometimes I wear the same one for a month.
What is the FG horologists' take on this?

I wouldn’t buy any watch with a date function, except perhaps a Lange with big date

I have a mix with and without dates, and one with day/date. Nearly all of them have a quick date set function though (wind through 12 to tick it over, back to 9, then again through 12 for another increment) so I don't find setting the date much of an issue.
I don't have a preference really, but the position and size of the date window can make or break a face. All depends on the model.

I don't know of any dial that looks better with a date, so thats certainly a consideration. OTOH, the ghost date on cheap watches is disgusting.
I have now set the date on my watches so it's completely off, to simulate not having a date complication, and I'll see if I can get used to look for the date on my computer, tablet, phone etc.

Get it! I love Omegas. Ive got a vintage one my dad passed down to me which is honestly way too small for my wrist. I've got a 42mm Seamaster Pro from the time Spectre was out. It's a lovely watch. Also, a very minor point but the boxes you get with them are HUUUGEE!!!!

How come the watch becomes reflective like the black background it's against?

Man, that is so aesthetically pleasing. It looks way too chunky to be something I could ever wear, though.

Any good nick? I’ve been hovering over eBay for weeks now prices are down I really like it. The fanciest watch in my collection is a Tag, I’m more of a g-shock collector and this is right in that bracket. It’s shockingly light but looks great. Kind of chunky but I like that vibe. The Velcro strap is also a preference to leather or metal so that’s nice. All in all, I love it but time will tell (hur) how well it holds up. G-shocks are tanks and I wear one 24/7 and this will not be that. I think it has swatchpay if that makes a difference but my card isn’t supported. You can just walk in and buy them now. The Mrs was going to get me this www.swatch.com/en-gb/big-bold-bioceramic-basalt-sb03b110/SB03B110.htmlFrom the Westfield store but they had the whole range of these in and it didn’t take much for the geezer to up sell her

Talking g-shocks, I've just got my first one (GW-M5610U-1ER), so I've not had a solar powered watch before. How long does the charge typically take to get to low? As soon as it's gone down to medium I'm fixating on it, and trying to get it charged back up which in winter is not easy, just trying to get an idea to hopefully put my mind at ease.

I’ve got a gw-b5600gz-1 which I think it’s pretty much the same thing and I don’t think it’s ever run out of juice. I leave it on the windowsill for a day when I want to wear it and have turned on all the power saving settings in the app and it ticks over just fine.
Doesn’t do much, though, so I can’t imagine it needs that much juice.

Can anybody remind of the reputable pre-owned sellers? I've ended up on Watchbox and Watchfinder, but neither look like another site I discovered a while ago.

Yeah Chrono24 is supposed to be great, they hold your money in escrow for two weeks so you can verify the watch.
Or Christopher Walken's ass?
