If you want a Swiss watch, take a look at Certina or Tissot, or Longines if you want to spend a bit more. If you want to spend even more, Omega has a very broad range of quality watches. Or go Oris if you hate Swatch Group, or Rolex if you hate yourself.

It does very much depend on budget. I would also suggest a Seiko 5 though, and they do smaller ones if you have skinny wrists. I have a 37mm one and it's pretty sweet. One like this in fact. The bracelet is not great but the watch itself is cool AF:
Do you have a budget in mind? Starchild, that's a super cool watch. Retro 70's styled monopusher, love it.

My Timex arrived! It must be new old stock, it seems completely unworn. Amazing condition considering it's at least 33 years old

That’s pretty sweet. I like it!
Do you remember those digital watches that had built in tv remote control buttons so you fuck with teachers? No idea what make they were, but one of the classic wheeler dealer kids used to sell them in the playground.
I feel I may need to hunt one down now.

That's awesome. I didn't have a watch with a remote, but I had a watch with a built in turntable you could scratch out tunes on. It was awesome and terrible and I loved it

Might just go for an Orient Bambino to start me off, I really like the look of it

smoothpeteI think around the $500 mark is what I'm aiming for, the Seikos I've been looking at per elstoofs advice seem to fit pretty handily within that budget. Will go into a few stores this weekend and have a bit of a nosy around if I get the time. Can see this being a very slippery slope.

Timex Marlin is another nice entry into mechanical watches, dinky little 34mm dial suits it’s retro styling. It’ll take a bit of trying on to see what size suits you, I can’t wear anything over 38mm personally while most men today consider that to be a small size

I tried on the Tissot prx powermatic 80, it’s an incredible watch for around £500. Proper 70s genta style so a bit marmite but I’ll be picking one up at some point.

I don't know of any Seiko 5s that are in that bracket, are you sure you're looking at the right watches? Seems you had some confusion before. It's a fair budget though, I would consider upping it slightly for a Hamilton Khaki. It's so good it's practically an heirloom piece.

I decided against getting an homage and got a legit military watch instead that had a little more utility to it. Namely tritium lume and a bezel I can set to London time. Nice watch, looks dapper on a regimental nato.

I'm very tempted to get me the Baltic Aquascaphe Dual Crown for my upcoming birthday. Love the internal dive bezel and the dimensions (39mm, 11.9mm).

Baltic make some nice stuff. I like the retro vibes of most of their stuff, in particular the Aquascaphe (the one they now call the "classic")
Watches & Wonders in on this week although I've not had time to read a great deal about it yet. There's usually some pretty interesting stuff. I see Cartier now have a green dial Santos medium in steel which looks reeeeeealllly nice

I like the new BB41 burgandy bezel with jubilee bracelet.
I think when they eventually revise the new BB GMT white dial with improved case shape, crown and jubilee bracelet I'll be buying one.

In fact I think a BB58 GMT on jubilee bracelet would be my perfect watch...

I absolutely detest Roman numerals. The tank is ruined by them, but I saw one with slim indices once and it was a serious improvement. I just wish it was more the norm than a rarity or I'd put some serious consideration into getting one. I believe they're quite hard to find though.

Annoyingly, my dyslexia refuses to allow me to be able to tell the time at all without markers of some sort. I might as well draw a watch on my wrist for all the good those would do me.

These are usually easy to find on the second hand market
