If Omega did away with the helium valve how would I do all my deadly serious which is obviously what these watches get used for diving and decompression?

I like the HE valve I think its iconic for the model, what I don't like is the bloody awful bracelet with no taper. But i think the black rubber looks great on this model. Yeah I like that blue 300 heritage a lot, but I'm not a fan of faux patina so will have to see in person I really should by a G shock, it seems if you are into watches you should have one.

I still want to buy a couple of old-school Vostoks for curiosity's sake but for whatever reason my finger just never presses the Buy button. I've got a Raketa Big Zero and I never wear it, and that's probably nicer/more interesting than most Vostoks.
I've got two spaces left in my watch box and one of those is reserved for when I think Fuck It I'll Buy That Hamilton Elvis Ventura.

I've got a Tag Kirium F1... which I hardly ever wear now I'm working from home. I'm considering selling it as I just wear a £20 fitness tracker instead these days.

I’ve got the blue face version of that on the stainless steel strap. Love it! I’ve got the blue rubber strap for it as well but I just found it uncomfortable so never use it. I love the website where you can pick out the nato straps. Ended up getting this instead of a Rolex Explorer 2 Polar. I was next on the waiting list but decided to sack it for the Omega. No regrets. Still want a Reverso at some point but my cash is going elsewhere these days. I certainly have no need for a dress watch.

The blue is a classic, i was close to getting that but I have a blue aqua terra already on bracelet. Yeah I’d love a reverso but it’s a lot of money for a watch if barely wear!

It took me years, nay decades, to finally admit to myself that I don't like Omegas. I'd even started collecting late 50s devilles and piepan seamasters, a few of which are still sitting in the bank, waiting for the market to pick back up. They just seemed to wander further and further from my desired aesthetic, or my desired aesthetic wandered away from them as I went deeper. Same goes for Rolexes, I just don't like that oyster design motif. However, they're all still excellent watches, they just don't do it for me. I'm extremely fickle now; APs, Patek's, Lange's, VC and Jaunes are all pretty ghastly to my eye, most have always been so I'm really at a loss as to what I actually like these days. I think the more militaristic field and pilot watches are more my speed these days, but I still haven't found one that really turns my head.
I mean, shit. I just wear a modded g-shock now.

I think the blue Omega Deville Tresor is the prettiest watch of them all. Not that I'll ever feel that I can afford one... OT: I know this isn't even remotely automatic, but the Citizen AnaDigiTemp Rebel Pilot is the most sci-fi watch I've ever seen. Sadly it's only sold in the US.

Sounds like you need an IWC mark XV, XVI, XVII or XVIII All great and subtly different

Went watch shopping with the GF a few days ago. She was originally planning on buying a cheap-ish Tissot, now she really fancies a 29mm Longines La Grande Classique with two-tone silver/rose gold bracelet, either with a white face with roman numerals or with mother-of-pearl face and diamond indices like in this picture: Yes it's a quartz (ahem thread title), but she really likes the 4.5mm thickness. She also can't decide between the two watch faces; she likes the one in the above photo a bit better, but isn't sure if she'd still want to wear it when she's 60. Here's it is with the other watch face: And yes, the difference in tackiness between photo and product shot is real. She almost didn't want to try the two-tone version (it also comes in pure stainless steel) because we thought it looked incredibly tawdry in the catalogue, but in real life (they let us take it out of the shop to see how it looked like in natural light) it looked great. Seems like a solid choice IMO, can't really go wrong with a Longines?!

Update - vintage tag has arrived and it is really nice, proper vintage rolex look at a fraction of the cost. Brexit tax was £150.00, Brexit the gift that keeps on giving....

Breguet Type XX? Yeah, I posted one in the EG thread, but all those complications are distracting and really not all that necessary. Same goes for my previous crush on Fortis Cosmonauts. IWC is alright, as clem mentioned a few posts back, but I think I'm just out of the market now. Weird feeling after being fairly obsessed with watches my entire life.

I'm thinking about buying my first automatic. Question: are the rotors silent, or is it possible (e.g. in a very quiet room) to hear or even feel the rotor spinning when moving the arm? Or does this depend on the model, some models are audible and others aren't?

Depends on the model. I have a Tag Heuer with an ETA movement and you can feel it spinning around and hear it quite clearly. My Max Bill was relatively noisy but I think that's because the construction is quite dainty.
Then my Oris, Milgauss and GO, they're basically silent / imperceptible.
Try before you buy

Went to an Omega store yesterday as I liked the look of the Aqua Terra. Well after seeing it in the metal I'm absolutely in love. I had a quick Google and apparently the 38.5mm, which fits my puny wrists better, has a different movement (8800) that is quite noisy (say people about the 8806 movement in the Seamaster 300, but I can't imagine it being much different in the Aqua Terra), while the 41mm (8900) is basically silent. It didn't occur to me to check for that when trying it on or asking the salesperson about it. They also offered to throw in two tickets to an advance showing of No Time To Die. Bastards.

I have the 8900 version, it has a longer power reserve (two barrels) and jumping hour hand. The 8800 has about 5 hours less reserve and quick set date. I think both are silent. When you have heard loud you'll know about it. Oh and ask them to throw in a leather strap, they always do that for a sale

Are you saying once you heard a loud movement make noise, you'll hear it all the time? Yeah thanks, they offered me a leather strap including the clasp and also a bottle of the Aqua Terra perfume, which is quite nice actually; the GF loved it.

I meant there are different tolerances, I mean if you but the aqua terra close to your ear and shake your wrist you might be able to hear the rotor faintly. However this is perfectly fine. I've owned some automatic watches where your can hear the rotor loudly when you are walking around the house.

The only time I've ever noticed any of my autos has been in bed and if they are near my head.
Day to day I've never noticed any sound.
