Don’t know much about them. That’s a nice looking field watch, bit big at 44mm, so try before you buy 👍

No not at all, there is no low brow here. Get it if you like it! I prefer the white / cream dial version of that one with the green strap, just my personal taste based on a quick scan of their models. It's a hefty boi though

His video monologues are just unhinged, you love to see it. I can’t imagine a more half arsed product launch. Derek Guy is a good friend of mine so I feel like I’ve had a front row seat

Is it concerning that I've never heard of this idiot before?

Did you guys see that new thing from Christopher Ward, the Bel Canto? www.christopherward.com/c1-bel-canto-blue.htmlI registered my interest and could have bought (or rather pre-ordered) one (I would have gotten the purple one) but I decided I was being influenced by the opinions of others and that I personally didn't like it enough to warrant it, even at that price. I'm not sure I want a watch that dings every hour tbh. I do like the design, looks like it's punching well above its price-point. But still, internet hype beast piece IMO.

First time I’ve seen it, doesn’t really do it for me either. The weird drawn on squiggle for the power reserve(?) makes it look cheaper than it should

I think that’s the indicator for whether or not it’s set to chime on the hour. I agree though, looks a little goofy

That makes more sense! Could probably have that on the back and avoid being so incongruous. There’s too many of these hype watches for me to keep up with anyway, a friend of mine got one of those Furlan Marri black sectors which look kind of nice, but I doubt it would be as appealing if you could just pick one up whenever like a Nomos

Probably look better on a different strap but not for me.

Looks fucking ridiculous.
If you want to get a proper analogue alarm watch, Bulova has a few vintage numbers that don't look like a prostitute's coil case.

Just received the Supreme NATO Black & Gunmetal from Crown & Buckle. Very pleased with it. Good quality and looks great on my blue Aqua Terra.

I finally found my first watch! Or at least nailed down the exact model. Some kind person has scanned and archived every Argos catalogue from the 80s and 90s. I tried the 1987 one first and sure enough there is it! Bottom right, blue buttons: archive.org/details/argos-spring-summer-1987/page/n83/mode/2upTimex Marathon 50! Can't find any for sale at the moment though sadly.
So going back to this, I just won an ebay auction for a mint condition / unworn one of these from the US and I'm honestly super chuffed
Got my first watch back!! Woooo

Hello all, a local Elvis impersonator is selling a Jazzmaster H37616331 for €600.
Would the fontgeek hivemind consider that a good purchase? Seems like decent condition

You can pick one up from the grey market for a couple of hundred more than that, brand new in box (at least judging from a cursory google). I would find something you absolutely want rather than take something because it's easily available nearby.

A valid point. I just love in the very arse end of nowhere in Ireland, and it's very rare someone local would have one

Nice watches has been a recurring topic at work recently and after reading through this thread I want to start dabbling. Haven't worn a watch in 20 years or so. What brands would be suitable for 'baby's first watch' to kick-start my journey? Is there anything/type I should be avoiding? Cheers guys

I’ve never really owned a grown-up watch before. However, my folks came up to visit this weekend and turns out my old man has cashed in on some old collectible (what I thought was tat but turned out not be) stuff. He then decided he wanted to give me something rather than just spend it or leave it sat in a bank, so bought me one of these as a sort of new family heirloom: alpinawatches.com/products/startimer-pilot-heritage-chronograph-ref-al-727ss4h6I feel like a proper adult and like I should be shouting financial terms down a phone at someone.

There’s no one Seiko 5, it’s a whole family of watches. There’s one for pretty much every occasion, diver, dressy, field etc, range of sizes. They’re all solidly made and affordable gateway drugs
