The EG seemed mostly negative about the beta but I played nearly two hours tonight with three friends and I thought it was excellent. Pretty much everything I wanted.
Think there was some consistency in the negatives about how the guns felt and aimed, felt nice for me. Tried a couple of different shotguns, the m4 and some various pistols and they all felt great. I can't wait for the main game now.
For some reason I thought the case system you played cards during levels to get temp perks but you actually build decks. Didn't feel the impact in the two hours but it could be something decent, especially on higher difficulties etc.

Same experience here. We like it too. It’s not L4D and I feel like that is in some way why it gets a hard time. We upped the difficulty and got our arse handed to us eventually. Co-ordination and co-operation are absolutely key. The cards seem to be working out too. They get more interesting as you progress. It’s a game pass no brainer for me. Crossplay and game pass means the player base will be large but to be honest I can see why playing with randoms is not a good idea. You need to share ammo, stick together and not shoot people in the back. Something your average match made Rando just cannot do.

Just had a couple of games with randoms on the lower difficulty. Still great fun, just so satisfying.

I was hyped for this as a long time L4D fan, but thought the beta was utter arse. Something feels off about the shooting, the cards and currency stuff made me feel sick, the wait times between levels was horrendously long, and the versus mode is absolute bobbins.
The full game might improve on some of this stuff, but I'm been put right off.

I don't think this is fully going to scratch that Left 4 Dead itch or be quite as memorable but the cards have potential and as just a campaign thing I had a lot of fun playing with Deano and a couple of others

I was a but underwhelmed by the beta, but I think it could end up being fun as long as they sort out the horrific auto aim

I had a quick whirl tonight and thought it was great. Some nice bits to mix up the formula. Guns feel good too.

I was really very disappointed with the beta, so much so, I cancelled my pre order. I've been excited for this game for years but I thought it was pretty bad and lacking that magic that made L4D so good.
Too complicated, too many guns and mods and items, poor gun play, poor special infected, boring characters. I could go on.
Not for me but hopefully it improves by launch.

That surprises me. The last beta was really terrible. Has it improved at all in the final release?

Tried this and it feels like Left 4 dead from when it came out. It feels like it could have been made years ago and is just a reskin with the deck thing added on which I’ll never get into.

Played a run of the first set of levels, just solo. Seems very much like a modern Left 4 Dead whilst actually in a level. No terrible thing, as I tried playing L4D not that long ago and found it to be very dated. Gunplay is an improvent and general feel is all nice, although neither are anything special or competing with the best.
The level design felt pretty generic. All very linear, with quite limited verticality. The ending sees you needing to blow up a ship, which is a nice variation and if they can mix up objectives then I could see it being interesting. The rest of the opening levels were very forgettable though. A more interesting tone could have helped, but it lacks the more playful elements of L4D. Not to say it is gritty, just all a bit flat.
Can't really say much about the card system. In single player, it seems you have all the cards unlocked right off the bat and it all looks quite daunting. You are given a starting deck for the tutorial, which only has about 5 or 6 cards in, so I didn't really get a feel for how interesting they can get, whilst the thought of wading through all the cards to build a single player deck doesn't sound like much fun.
Didn't really delve much into weapon variety yet, but seems to be a fairly good mix, with a little customisation for cosmetics, as well as attachments you can get during runs. The game doesn't explain it too much, but seems like it is mostly straightforward.

Gave it a go and yes its L4D for the modern era, think they nailed the basics and look forward to sharing a few runs.

Am I the only one struggling to find a game?
Feels like I'm waiting 10+ minutes to start a run, which can't be right.

Played for about 3 and a half hours tonight. Loved every minute. We found hard too hard, it was non stop special enemies and barely made it through the first few levels.
Then put it on normal and it was a bit too easy. We called it a night near the end of act one but only had maybe three occasions where it got hairy and only lost one continue.
Much bigger game than I was expecting as we made pretty fast progress through the levels and still didn't finish the first act.
The carbine is so far by far my favourite primary and paired with the mini SMG was a beauty.
Can't wait to play it again.
(No problems with matchmaking, most of the night was with friends but the two times we needed new players if someone left we got someone to join almost immediately AND they were really nice people...which I find unusual)

Played this for a few hours tonight and it’s entertaining. Seems pretty hard, but maybe I’m just out of practice/shite.
Played a fair bit of Aliens Fireteam recently so the PvE thing isn’t much of a novelty.

Played for a couple of hours, finished the first act. It’s alright. No surprises as I played the Beta. Can’t see me doing more than a single run through atm but it might get it’s hooks in.
Playing it on Game Pass and miss the Dualsense. I really like the haptics for weaponry feedback.

Played a bit last night- it's improved since the beta but there's still a fair bit of clutter in there with all the weapon rarities and attachments and so on. Maybe that's good, maybe that's not? I think Left 4 Dead's choice of 'shotgun or assault rifle or sniper rifle for the guy who thinks he's hot shit' was fine. Limited and typed ammo also means you have to co-ordinate with your team over who is taking which gun, which never seems to happen with randoms.
I'll be giving it a proper whirl after work I reckon.

Had a run through solo last night. It was tough, only got midway through the 3rd part before getting downed by the ogre and giving up. The bots are a bit shit and don't do a lot tbh.
Trying again with real peeps tonight!

Hey thanks for that. I am wondering what has improved since the beta specifically? It felt more like an alpha to me, everything just didn't click, but had lots of potential.

Examples of this alpha comment?
Everything runs perfectly for me, no glitches, crashes etc. Feels very much like a full release that actually works.
Difficulty definitely needs tuning though!!

I was talking about the beta. It was pretty bad, lots of glitches, the online didn't work, the guns felt awful, the specials were very hard to discern. It felt like it needed another year in the oven at least, so I'm interested to see what's specifically changed since then.

One nice surprise was mission variety. I mean it wasn't huge but there are quite a few little different objectives through out my three+ hours on it.
Couldn't work out how to drop attachments for people if that is even a thing. I know you can drop ammo etc but I wanted to swap scopes with someone.
Looks great and runs perfectly on the series X. Cross play was also straight forward with my friends on pc and for once the in game team chat was crystal clear like we were all in a party chat.

ACG reported the Xbox game crashing 12 times during his review period.
Anecdotally, last night we had 1 of 4 on PC who couldn't join us and had to switch to Xbox One S, the 2 of us on Series X ran fine but the 1 on Series S had the game freeze and kick them out.
Otherwise no in-game glitches or bugs, guns are the same, and special ridden still aren't particularly distinguishable from the chaos - they don't tend to have really unique audio queues like L4D.
ed: you can't drop or transfer attachments. Single use.

Single use. That's odd about the audio queues. We were constantly calling out which special was nearby on the audio queues. They will all unique and very obvious that they were nearby. Also found they were visually obvious except the standard zombie size one that jumps but still generally knew which one it was.

Some of the larger ones have a stompy noise, which is fine, and you can see them over the crowds. But that's it so far. The L4D ones are all very unique and you know they're coming up in advance of seeing them rush you.
The player characters don't tend to chatter and inform you of anything either.

Seems so far our experience is very different. I noticed my character and the others often shouting out that there was a creeper etc. And yeah I noticed the queues for every type and was able to call out which one it was (usually using the wrong name like "long armed one, wall vagina one" etc and the direction it was coming from.

I couldn't tell when any of them were around, what they did or anything in the beta. One seemed like a boomer and a spitter hybrid. Another was a hunter type.
I tried versus in the beta to get a better understanding of the specials but it was terrible.
