Crash 4 is brilliant. The Spyro games are OK but I'd much rather see TfB working on Banjo

Thought Perfect Dark looked awesome. Though I think some of the shooting is 'demo-ified' as there are a few bits where the gun just leaps from one head to another, which doesn't seem like it'd be how it actually plays.
But the Deus Ex meets Mirror's Edge vibe is basically my perfect game. Though of course Perfect Dark was kinda proto Deus Ex, so it makes sense.
I don't suppose they announced a cheap Xbox as well did they? No way my PC will run that...

Isn't that what the Series S is?

So based off what I watched over the last few days I'm thinking, and allowing for the fact some of these games will not be out for maybe 12-18 months:
Day 1 purchases/downloads: BO6. I am no COD player but I will play the free campaign, I usually have fun with those. Gears (I will take my customary week leave upon release day!) Star Wars I was already impressed albeit sceptical (I have also watched ACG and tend to like what he likes) but now I think it is a day 1 Fable Perfect Dark Stalker 2 SH2, depending on previews or fellow FG's views.
Sale/reduced price/maybe ? AC Shadows, If I do not buy day 1 this will be the first console AC that I have not pre-ordered, let alone purchased since I can't remember, possibly ever ? I will likely cave in, I am around 12 hours into Ronin at the moment so maybe that is why it has not grabbed me (not even by the pussy) just yet. D.A, I was not that impressed, looked very cartoony Avowed, looked better than last year but still not too sure. Doom, looked great, hopefully no jumping, that ruined the last one for me, just could not get to grips with it. Indy, does look great but think I would have preferred 3rd person. MGS3, My absolute fav MGS, if it previews well it will be moved to day 1. Lego Horizon, maybe ?

Nope. Not unless they drop the price of the old one when the new one comes out.

Tried the local Xbox store for refurbished ones? They're £170ish with a code over here.

When is next gen then? I feel I’ve had my X barely five minutes.
2026 I’m cool with, next year not so much.
It may be that it’s been out for aeons and my sense of time is distorted.
Edit - I looked it up. 2020 so less than four years in at this point, with next gen touted for 2028.

Oct 2024. X-Box Pro announced to launch Mar 2025 in time for majority of 2025 big hitters.

With MS set to talk and maybe show the next hardware at the end of the year they aren't waiting till 2028.

Rumours I heard was they were readying a new Xbox for 2026 (the greatest generational leap ever apparently).

It talks to the Xbox fridge and toaster if you have them.

I’ve been a bit out of the loop with gaming tbh, save for getting through Resident Evil glacially, and haven’t been keeping up with this type of news. But it was this show that has given me a bit of new enthusiasm for it as a hobby. I’ll start saving for it next year then!
Would personally rather they avoid a mid gen upgrade a la One X - and I don’t think a 5 + year lifespan is bad really.

It won’t be until 2028. You’ve plenty of time. Whatever hardware they’re talking about next won’t be the next gen model.

I don’t know what to believe anymore lol. I probably would buy a refresh if it lasted as long as the One X did for me, that gave faithful service. Would prefer a gen leap though.

The leaked docs from the FTC case showed hardware design begin in 2024, the first dev kits arrive in 2027, and launch in 28.
They haven’t miraculously moved their timeline up by 2 years. It’d be very impressive if they could, and have a library of games also bumped up to go along with it.

They haven't even given it a cool "Project" name yet so it's definitely not out in eighteen months.
I wonder if we'll see the handheld before 2028? Maybe they'll make it play Series S games, but the tech isn't quite there yet for it to be fully compatible with the next-gen Xbox.
2024: first confirmation they're working on new hardware 2025: announce Xbox Series P(ortable) 2026: Series P released, next-gen announced 2027: full reveal of next-gen consoles 2028: next-gen released

I do think the next xbox will be like switch device, where you can play outside the house and put it into the cradle for the tv.
Maybe MS will just say download the app as its cloud based now?

Sticking with the follow up to the Series X plus a handled instead of S.

Sticking with the follow up to the Series X plus a handled instead of S. I think this is where they're going, but like I say I wonder if the handheld will be a sort of cross-gen device that plays all current games but might not play everything designed for the next-gen Xbox. And it'll definitely be a "local" device, not just streaming.

I know those leaked slides said 2028 for the next home console, but those were from May 2022 and they've almost definitely changed their plans since then. I think they're ditching a dedicated home console and going the licensing route as was rumoured over having moved their plans up to get a console out before the PS6.
But if they're aiming for a dual portable/home console release route in 2026 then I'd guess the chips powering them will be AMD's produced on a 4nm process and the portable would be using LPDDR6. That should allow them to get a portable console out that can handle Series S ports that isn't an unwieldy monster that costs an extortionate amount. A home console at the same power limits as a Series X would probably have twice the GPU/CPU grunt with better ray-tracing and dedicated hardware for upscaling and frame generation.
Clear cut generations would be even more dead, I can't see many games being exclusive to Next-Gen.

There's the speculation that they may have pivoted to Nvidia, let's also not discount the fact that they've been showing off the new Qualcomm chips for laptops using AI upscaling. I could definitely see them going down that route.

ARM + NVIDIA would have delivered the greatest gen-on-gen performance increase in both of the previous console generations.
