Hopefully the armour moves well and doesn’t have too much of cardboard box robot feel too it

Not sure myself, it looked a lot cheaper than I was expecting and the BoS looked fucking goofy. I'm excited for this as I love me some fallout. At the moment some of the shots have an 'early shot' look about them but a couple of filters in post Im sure (hope) it'll look good in the end. |

Looks awful to me, but then I've fallen completely out of love with the franchise since F4. I can imagine non-gamers being very confused by it. The Last of Us managed to break through because zombies are a well-established quantity. How exactly do you sell the Fallout universe to the masses? Not with a trailer like that I think. Why didn't they bring Perlman in for his famous line??
Also, it's kind of infuriating to see Todd Howard's name front and center on this. Fuck that guy, he didn't create this world. Arguably he killed it.
Will probably end up watching it anyway because Goggins.

I think the problem with this, and a lot of video game to film adaptations, is that games tends to be wholly artificial worlds that generally have distinctive and consistant art styles. When you try to blend it with the real world, it just doesn't mesh very well and looks like cosplay
To successfully translate a game to TV/film, I think you'd need to redesign everything with the starting point being the real world, likely losing some of the character in the process. Similarly with the stories, game narratives are just different (and serve different purposes) and need a rewrite that doesn't involve pandering to fans of the games, at which point there are few games with a story good enough to be worth it
In the end, it just looks a bit gimmicky

There is something really weird looking about this. As Aunt says, it looks really clean, but also really bright. Maybe it is just the phone I'm watching it on, but blue of vault outfit in particular looks really vibrant, kind of at odds with the apocalyptic world of Fallout. Maybe it is just the effect of the Creation engine, but Fallout always felt quite grey and flat whereas this looks cartoony.
Plus, the trailer itself was pretty heavy handed with the "this is a funny bit" moments, for things that might be funny in the original context but fall flat in the trailer. Made it feel quite cheesy.
Edit - a friend just mentioned it looks mostly like 4. I've not played 4, so might be why it looks weird to me.

Huh that annoyingly looked quite good. Capturing the colour palette better than I'd expect, some actual bright Vaulttech outfits. As I imagine the temptation would be to make it more realistic which is boring.
Did they say which coast it's set on? As West Coast Fallout is the only good Fallout. Also it's concerning splashing Todd Howard's name all over it.

In the case of TLoU, it felt like the people who had the biggest issues with the series were by and large gamers who were already well aquainted with it. Non-gamers new to the story had far fewer qualms. So long as there's a decent story in there I think this might hit the same notes.
