I definitely enjoy this more with the music off. Most tracks so far are just so irritating and repetitive. With the music off as well it is more atmospheric and creepy. Shame about cutscenes though as at that point the music I'm sure would make it better. OK I am now with you on this. The music which I actually quite like is just on a constant loop. They really should have had it fade in and out, as when the music is off it is more atmospheric as others have said. Allow it to breathe a bit.

OK. So just got to the "water" section with my newly acquired swimming armour. This might be as close to a "perfect" game as I have ever played. What a delight.

Hmmm
So in phazon mines.
Gone past the spider ball puzzle, several elites that need to be killed with certain weapons. Then a boss!
Then a ice elites
Then a gas filled half pipe
And then died by more elites in the room after.
Where the fuck have the save points gone!!!

The save point is after the boss, you big silly. Not a design flaw! You just need to get better.

No, it's not that bad. The save point is after the invisible boss, after you get the ball power-up.
You should have known where it was, you big silly!

I have all the upgrades now. But there was at least a three hour period where I was truly stuck and made zero progress. That sucked hard.
I think I must have been playing this at least 25 hours now. That elite boss was horrible. I swear there's no clue given for how you really beat him, after about 7-8 attempts I just had to look it up and was like "how would I have figured that out?" This game is proper frustrating.
The control scheme for the guns and visors really needs a rethink if they're making Prime 4. It's far too fiddly and I'm always fucking up because of it, my only saving grace is that I've collected shit loads of energy tanks.

The beams stack in Prime 3, so I imagine they will stick with that going forward.
They were easier to flick between on the GameCube and technically they still are of you choose to play with classic controls, but then you gotta learn how to move like you did back then.

Was it here someone said about switching the visor and weapon select? Theory being there is more weapon switching than visor.
Will give the mines another crack tonight. Wondering if I can "farm" energy somewhere in the middle.

Yeah it was me, in settings there's a "switch beam and visor" option that makes the dpad switch beams, and X+dpad change visor, it makes a huge difference to combat imo

Yeah I switched it on your recommendation, but it's still fiddly as so much combat still relies on switching visors.

Huzzah I've done it and have the powerball. Wasn't too bad in the end, just had to take it a bit slower and all was OK.

Yesterday I killed a big bug that got big with UV lamps. I can now go play in the lava areas I've found. I'm really enjoying it, great game but I've no idea why it's so highly regarded/ reviewed. I get maybe why 21 years ago but all the reviews of this version were also giving it near perfect ratings. We shall see. I'm up for saying when I complete it that I loved it though. Currently a solid 8 that I'm looking forward to playing more.

Haha halo ce was an easy 10 for me at the time. Although some of the later levels were weak the first five levels were gaming heaven , especially in co op..

Never played it in co-op. I can imagine that helped a lot. Single-player was fun to run around in the outside world and drive the jeeps, but as soon as you went indoors zzzz

The spike in difficulty prior to the power bomb about the only part that's really frustrated me. I am now seemingly mopping up the upgrades. Got the /fire cannon/flamethrower/xray/powerbomb ammo upgrade and grapplehook now. Might go to the snow level and pick up some items from there but otherwise I think I'm ready to head to mines? I seem to remember there was a canyon with blue radiation to cross. Which I imagine I do with grapplehook or xray. It's the only blue bit left in the mines.

Not sure how much is left? Got one eye on zelda coming out haha. Felt bad I've rushed it a bit.
Dread was my first proper playthrough of a metroid game. Super metroid I've started once or twice but never finished.
So great fun playing this and dread in space of 12 months. I think at a push I enjoyed dread slightly more. Prime is brilliant though and not much between them.
Cant remember if fast travel was in dread but I feel it would be welcomed in prime. Even if it was to beam back to the ship and that's it.

You're damn close to the end now, so I'd say crack on and get it finished if you can. Just grapple and one more suit upgrade to get now.

I'm at the final boss and I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to inflict any more damage at the end part.
I got so frustrated I just switched it off. I'll come back to it tonight.

cubby Assuming you're in the 2nd phase: Switch visors when you lose sight of it. One of them should be able to pick it up again. Oh, and it'll leave puddles...

Hah, turns out I wasn't at the final boss.
Now I've finished it. 24 hours 87% complete.
I'd give it maybe a 7/10, possibly even 6 if I'm honest. The combat was infuriating (particularly boss fights) and the upgrades felt like they weren't worth getting, other than for the sake of getting them.

Very fair point. Beyond super missiles, I barely dabbled with the others. Although they do more damage, they're harder to pull off in this version of the game and take too long to use anyway.

I think I used the Wavebuster thing in one of the last three fights. Maybe Meta Ridley.
My tip would be to consider doing a sweep to collect as many missile upgrades as possible. Whether you use super missiles or wavebuster type attacks you'll never have too many missiles. I had about 170 by the end I think. And there are maybe 250 in total..?

I had 200 missiles, and thought that must have been max. I was missing one energy tank iirc.
The flamethrower just rinses missiles for seemingly no effect.
