I'm so much better these days. I don't even bother looking at achievements/trophies until I've finished the game, at which point I'll have a look through the list and most likely move on unless the rest can be mopped up in a few hours.
I quite like taking a break from it completely with Switch games too. It used to be a negative for me that they lacked an achievement system, but now it's a positive.

Annoyingly, I cant think of a single example in which I've got every achievement/trophy in a game and it hasn't soured the experience in some way. Hitman3 wasn't a grindfest. But that might be the only one!

I don't think I've ever platinum'd a game at all. On any platform!

I don't think I've ever attempted an achievement ever, on any platform. They pop up occasionally when I'm playing games and I ignore them. Wait, maybe The Stanley Parable where it was a way to check you'd done all the weird stuff.
PS/ Traveling around the world in Metroid Prime and getting familiar with it is a big part of the game's appeal, so it's best to just make peace with it.

I like achievements that encourage you to play in a different way, e.g. an achievement in a Mega Man game for using as little ammo as possible (aka Buster-only playthrough). I don't like achievements that are about finding every single collectible, and scanning everything in Prime is of this ilk.

I think what's putting me off is that in game I don't know why I should be scanning everything. If it said "this thing happens if you scan everything" then that would give me a tangible incentive, but at the moment I just happen to know that 75% gives a good ending, because of this thread, so it currently feels a bit weird. It should be easier to scan things too, I think that's my main gripe. None of this switching visors bobbins.

I never needed a reason to scan things. I just thought it was an awesome thing to be able to do, so I scanned everything I saw. And with the remaster I did exactly the same thing again. I guess I just like scanning things 😋

In the original I just scanned things because it was cool. I never even payed attention to a percentage, and I have no idea which ending I got. I don't think I even knew there were different endings. Ignorance is bliss.

I scanned things until I realised that they mostly didn't matter. Yeah there was lore, but I never really found myself caring about the lore. Maybe it'd be different if I had Metroided before.

I remember in the original you needed to scan to get the red squares to be visible which would open stuff, or whatever. So I just got into that mindset of scanning all the time. It feels a little slower in this version, but I play games quite sedately nowadays anyway, so it's no massive thing. Just combines to the burnout a bit quicker.

Metroid history has been made - I just beat Meta Ridley!
I'm very glad I re-started on Casual mode after about 1hr of play. My run through the fight was a lot easier than the Youtube vid I watched. Now to watch vids for the final fight...

Without some kind of walkthrough you might struggle, it's taking me forever at the moment. Some moments I make amazing progress, but then I start going into headless chicken mode, backtracking until I stumble upon somewhere I haven't been or couldn't get to before.

Played one hour today. Enjoyed it but the music hasn't dated well, or maybe it was never good but the music especially on the first section/level was very cheesy and irritating.

Is there any chance I can finish this before zelda cones out? I think my first (and so far only) playthrough was about 15 hours (without rushing) Played one hour today. Enjoyed it but the music hasn't dated well, or maybe it was never good but the music especially on the first section/level was very cheesy and irritating. I think the music is mostly pretty good, but I agree the soundtrack of the opening "stage" kind of stinks

This game is a bloody delight! Quite like the music feels very metroid and VR would be dreamy

I definitely enjoy this more with the music off. Most tracks so far are just so irritating and repetitive. With the music off as well it is more atmospheric and creepy. Shame about cutscenes though as at that point the music I'm sure would make it better.

Thats how I played Rise of the Tomb Raider, which made it far more atmospheric.
The music in this game is fantastic though, so I don't know if I could do what you're doing.
I might try a motion control run though.

It's so so bad. (maybe because I don't have the nostalgia for the soundtrack?) But it sounds like music from a SNES game. Music in modern games are up there with movies and you can tell this soundtrack is over twenty years old.

Equating "sounds like SNES" with "sounds bad" is cancelworthy

It actually is mostly music from the SNES game!

That, admittedly, sounded better on the SNES

Was getting a bit annoyed with my latest hour on it. Spent most of it going in various directions to discover time and time again I don't have the required upgrade. Be it magnetic ball or ball boost or jump or grapple hook or etc etc. After going every route possible back and forth I eventually found a new route that, so far, isn't a dead end and found a save point so done for now.
