John Mahoney had a film background, Grammar was always a TV guy, hence the difference in resolution and aspect ratio.

I've just rewatched the original series for the nth time (best sitcom ever) on Channel 4 player, and although some of it is censored, at least it was free, and in the original 4:3 format.

That's so weird, I haven't tried the channel 4 player but the episodes broadcast on normal channel 4 are the stretched out 16:9 ones.

TIL - The surname of the man who murdered Kelsey Grammer's father was "Niles"

These awful trailers are not doing the series any favours. Just cutting together a bunch of (presumably) little throwaway gags that (again, presumably?) are the filler between the proper jokes and plot points. Frasier at its best has heart and drama and farce and witty, cutting sarcasm. This makes it look more like The Big Bang Theory. Not sure how you get all of that across in a trailer, but not like that!

I'm all for more Fraiser. Despite it not hitting anywhere near the originals, I still enjoyed it.

I quite enjoyed the new stuff when the younger actors were off screen. Grammer and Lyndhurst in particular are good at doing a staged farce, probably all the theatre work. They nailed the rhythm and delivery. Lots of the other cast were just doing US sitcom delivery.

2x01
Really still harping on the "I can't believe you dropped out of Harvard to become a firefighter" stuff. Hopefully the resolution of this one will tie a bow on that and we'll never hear of it again, but that seems doubtful.
Lyndhurst is probably the best thing about this show.
Episode made me want to eat ham, even after a poor man's (David) attempt to create a farce on the level of the "Niles irons trousers" scene.
2x02
One laugh from the reference to the Stanford prison experiment.
