Well, the opening is quite bad. The studio audience feels like it's been mishandled. Laughter really doesn't feel natural in most places, like they added a bunch of canned laughter over the top and fiddled the levels a lot. They often do that *absolute silence* - 0.5s of HAHAHAHAHA - *absolute silence* thing, which audiences don't.
As above Niles's son's intro is terrible. Rubbish physical comedy and way too OTT. If anything the fact they made him quite so close to Niles's character only rams home what has been lost. An impossible act to follow so why even try?
Kelsey Grammer is actually really good and most of the cast are basically fine. Freddie is decent. The script seemed passable for a pilot.
The laughter track and bizarro-Niles just massively spoil it for me. If both of those go away it might be watchable.

Only seen episode 1 but I’m optimistic! For an episode that has the primary job of laying the groundwork it also managed to be funny, touching and believable for the most part.
The wife mentioned the canned laughter too but it didn’t really bug me for some reason. Though the loud cheering at the start when Frasier appeared made me think “oh no”, but it didn’t carry on like that thank god.
I think Rodney fits in well and had good chemistry with Frasier. I was really worried he might be shit. And I agree that David is clearly the Niles stand in but that’s ok for now. To be honest I completely overlooked that he could be in it but now I see there’s definite potential there for stories around the relationship between he and Frederick.
As a huge Frasier fan, some high praise I have is just that I quickly stopped thinking about it and just settled in

Yeah I agree they fumbled the opening scene somewhat. It found its footing though

That's weird I searched 'Frasier' on Paramount the day you guys started posting opinions on ep1&2 and it only came up with the old series or a trailer for the new one.

I too enjoyed it more than expected. I think the shite opening sets the bar low and is an interesting tactic with episode two being much stronger.

A mad thought. A Scottish remake of "Frasier"
Character could be called "Fraser"
Some joke about drinking Irn-Bru at a wine tasting.
Help me develop this concept.

I feel pretty certain that Gregor Fisher has played that on Naked Video

Definitely the weakest so far. Frasier and Rodney were carrying it. Freddy still hasn't grown past "generic American sitcom guy" and so far David has done nothing but drop the ball. I'm worried that it's been focus-grouped into a blend of the original Frasier and the Big Bang Theory.
I'm still optimistic that it could find its feet. I suppose three episodes in is a bit early to judge an American sitcom. Plus the first two weren't bad

Watched the first 2 episodes last night. The laugh track is really distracting, I think I've just not watched anything with one in so long it's really throwing me. I'd gotten more used to it by the end of Episode 2.
It really seems to be carried by Grammar and Lyndhurst so far. I guess they're just more experienced at acting in old school sitcoms with an audience, or working on an actual stage in a farce. As they're getting all the delivery, timing and general craft of it spot on.
Other people are fine? Dunno.
Shit Niles, is Shit.

Yeah, I’m pleasantly surprised by it. The laugh track is awful, but that’s just a sitcom staple. Plus it’s three episodes in and virtually no sitcom ever found its feet immediately. The first season of OG Frasier is good but very different compared to how the series ended up.

Glad people are watching it. Let me know when they tone down the laughter track and cull bizarro-Niles and I'll be back on board.

Episode 4, big improvement. David continues to be the weak link in the cast.

Episode 5
I can see why critics who had advanced copies thought this was the strongest of the first five. Classic Frasier standards, (social climbing, light farce) plus they had a sub-plot where they actually gave David something to do for the first time. Still not rising to the original show standards yet though.
Episode 6
Badly written plays, jokes about proper grammar usage, light farce involving blind dates. Felt more like an early-ish classic Frasier episode. And no David!

Episode 7
It had Lilith. That made it the first very good one.

Most recent episode was actually really good! They finally found a successful way to use David for something, and pairing him up with Alan was brilliance. Two great guest stars who worked really well in their roles, and I actually laughed out loud a few times.

So the whole season has ended now and after 10 episodes I'd give it a mixed review, it certainly got a lot better as the season progressed and David actually became a half decent version of his Dad rather than some irritating character that seemed to have escaped from The Big Bang Theory. I'm glad to see Frasier back, it just needs more of what the later episodes were like and give Nicholas Lyndhurst more to do, his chemistry with Kelsey Grammer is great. Not all of it worked but I imagine it'll get renewed and it'll have worked out the kinks from the first season. The guest star appearance in the finale is almost certainly not the last we well see of them and it has to be nailed on they're going to become a series regular.

I only just watched last weeks episode, thinking I’d have two queued up for tonight but apparently it’s finished?
Anyway I really enjoyed the series. I lean towards good rather than mixed, I felt that it took a while to find its feet (it still is doing so, really) but it got better as it went along. Everyone is falling into their roles more now, except of course for Frasier and Rodney who were there right out of the gate.
It’s a good foundation to build on and like Whizzo I think season 2 should have some real momentum behind it now.
Anyway I’m off to put my Paramount subscription on pause…

The picture quality of the series 1 to 11 Blu-ray varies tremendously from one scene to the next.
2x14 is particularly bad. In a scene in the apartment, every time the camera focuses on Martin, it looks tremendously crisp and detailed, while when it shifts to another angle to focus on Frasier and Niles it's blurry and low res to the point it looks almost DVD quailty, then back and forth between the two states continuously.

Have they tried changing the aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9 or something like that?

I don’t know about blu ray but that’s part of the problem on Paramount+. They have completely fucked the aspect ratio so each episode is randomly either 16:9 zoomed in to 4:3 which makes it look grainy, 16:9 crushed into 4:3 so everything is thin and compressed or an actual 16:9 picture where you can see the edge of the set, boom mics and extras lurking around.
The Mrs just bashed through all eleven series and it’s so unbelievably poor.
