Surgery tomorrow, tendon had indeed snapped and has retracted back to my wrist. So going to be in plaster for a week, and then a custom splint. Turns out losing the ability to bend your thumb for a few weeks causes your knuckle to seize up, coupled with the issue of the non-functioning thumb itself means I'm going to have physio for months. Fuck me, I'm never washing a wine glass again. ouch, fuck me that sounds grim. going to start swigging from the bottle in order to avoid a similar fate. safety first

Yikes, good luck. My brother (chef) did similar with a knife. Despite surgery and physio, his little finger is now permanently crooked with limited movement.

Thanks Dougs, there is a chance I won't get full movement back, and the numbness is likely to stay due to nerve damage, hopefully it'll go back to normal position though.

How did it go?
I am being a brave little soldier. I have put my back out somehow, spasming on both sides in the middle. Got some heavy duty antiinflammatories last week and it eased off over the weekend. But is back now. Sigh.

Thanks for asking Dougs. Third best option in the end, to much scar tissue to reattach the tendon so they've embedded a silicon rod into my thumb to my wrist and then in three months they need to take a tendon from my forearm and run it through the rod they've put in.
Am in a cast until the weekend, then they'll look at the wounds and create me a custom splint until the next surgery. Loads of physio, the surgery only accounts for 20% of getting function back, the second surgery will allow me to bend my thumb again, but the physio is to ensure I get as much mobility back as possible.
6-9 months in total, what a process.
The hospital staff have been amazing throughout, so very thankful for that.

Second surgery completed today. The tunnel that my body created around the silicon rod in my thumb worked, so they've threaded an unused tendon in my forearm through the tunnel and attached and all being well I'll have movement again (after months of physio).
They also cut away loads of internal scar tissue so the pain is much worse than last time (my arm was completely numb for 36 hours previously, this time I can move everything bar my thumb immediately, so the pain is real).
Friday they're going to redress, sort a splint and start my physio (not looking forward to that part at all) so thank fuck they've given me codeine this time.
Weeks of no driving, football, boarding, swimming or gaming (recommendations of one handed PS5 games welcome again) incoming. Got a big book pile to work through which is good.

Fingers crossed! Ahem. Do the exercises though!
I am being a brave little soldier. We've all got some.weird bug that has led to D&V for the youngest, gripey stomach for my wife and a temperature, nausea and blown up stomach for me. Hoping it eases soon. And the boy doesn't catch it before Friday (got my mum's funeral).

It's weird though, it's not noro. Daughter threw up Monday morning and then this morning. Not continuous or anything. Not vomiting from me, just a big ball.of gas. Definitely a digestive issue though so have decided to just not eat for a while, see if that helps.

My best to you both. Dougs feels like a really long time for the funeral? Just curious. Eat fibre so you start farting proper.

Yeah, we could have had it last week but a) would have run into bank holiday ferry nonsense as a Friday was preferable for my sister (where the cost goes up significantly) and more importantly, this Friday will be 12 years to the day of my dad's funeral. We liked the symmetry and symbolism of that.

Shit Dougs, I'm so sorry I didn't see your comment about the funeral, made my previous response to you seen so flippant.

Infected toenail. Drained it of yellow pus, washed it out with TCP, now in some pain.

My boy brought home a bug from creche yesterday. Up all night vomiting, then once we got up my wife displaying symptoms. It lasted all day yesterday with her, and now today I have it.
High temperature, nausea, headache, exhaustion. I have vomited thankfully, but it's truly kicking my arse. I get migraines also and never want to sleep, but today went up to bed twice.
My little lad who brought it home still has a high temperature, so didn't go to creche today. I have a feeling I'll still be suffering tomorrow.

Quite selfish of your son really. Wouldn't have killed him to stay at creche for a couple of days. And after everything you've done for him

Precisely! I had something typed out about him being here when I'm sick and monopolising the tv, but decided against it.

Ah man, kids are a nightmare for that. Hope it eases soon. Worst thing is when it whips round the whole family slowly enough that one parent can function and do parenting but also means it just goes on forever.
