Brave Little Soldier thread

Ah, this thread will do.

A couple of months ago I bought a longboard (a Globe Geminon dropthrough with a slight drop in the deck - it's a thing of beauty). So far so good. I was feeling quite comfortable on it to not wear any pads. Oh, and next month I turn 50.

You can already guess where this is going, right?

Last Saturday evening I went out for a short round, I rode off the slight slope in the road besides our house and my front wheels lock on a small ridge in the road. Before I knew it I was on my face, chin bleeding like crazy. I was dizzy but managed to get back home and tell my wife "something happened". After that I'm missing half an hour where my wife claims I was totally confused, repeatedly asking what happened. Eventually everything came back, except for that half hour (she apparently cleaned my arms which were full of blood from my chin).

So Saturday night a doctor had to glue my chin (instead of stitches) and check me out for other damages. Luckily it was only a mild concussion and a bruised jaw (still can't clench my teeth properly and chewing hurts).

On Sunday it was my youngest son's birthday and I already knew the "ha ha" remarks I was going to get from my family (let's just say they're not the most emphatic people in the world), but endured them like a boss (paracetamol ftw!)

Been working from home today and seems to be going fine. So all in all pretty lucky that it happened right next to my house.

Can't wait to get back on my board, although I will face my wife's wrath if I do that too soon

But also: Ouch man. Glad it wasn't worse.

I managed to get a drop of leftover chilli right in my eye while reheating it for dinner yesterday. Aside from obviously being hot from reheating, it was bastarding spicy. (Trinidad Moruga scorpion hot...)
Given that my missus had to come and see what the noise was about and found me mewling in pain with the kitchen tap running directly onto my eyeball, I guess I wasn't a brave little soldier...

Honestly surprised there wasn't more lasting damage, though. I was fine after 10 minutes.

That sounds extremely sexual if you skip the bits about playing football...

Rest up. I'm still in bits after an hour at an aqua park last weekend. My old body just isn't cut out for that kind of thing any more.

I just had a molar removed. It cracked earlier this year and couldn't be saved...my dentist was worried it would fracture so referred me to a specialist colleague at another surgery. Was easy as, 2 tugs with the forceps and out it came. I am still being a very brave little soldier.
