Thought we could have a thread where we post excitedly about our altcoins going up in price, never sell them, then despair as they crash through the floor.
Look at them cardanoes fly

[quote author=" hedben" Looks like I got in at exactly the wrong time. I had a fun couple of weeks watching my small amount of MATIC go up and up, then up and down, then sold for a small profit, bought back in after it went down a bit, then it tanked. I'd always resigned myself to losing the whole lot and I didn't bet my house or anything (more like the price of a new console, say), but this has definitely gone from "I'll check every day and smile if the numbers are bigger" to "I'll try to forget all about this, and hope for a pleasant surprise in 6 months"[/quote] Quoting myself from That Other Place. I've probably screwed the markup somehow. Anyway my small amount of MATIC is currently worth more than I paid for it again, and it only took a month! Might get out now while the going's good

So, this is when I should probably think about taking profit on my Cardono, now they're up 1230% but I'll sit on them and regret not selling when the next dump comes along. Am I doing this right?

How do you guys manage tax on crypto gains? Seems like a pain?
When I went to look into this stuff a few years back the various apps wanted me to hand over so much personal data (passport photos) etc. That I just noped out.
The energy consumption of the mining bothered me too...

Much of it depends really, each country will have different requirements. As I'm in Spain I'm vaguely familiar with Spanish law. Also depends on how much you have put in, you may not have to declare anything if it's only 100 pound(don't quote me on that). Plus are you trading or holding, often you need to report profits made on a trading between coins but not if you just hold it or make a loss. Same again if you are cashing out any gains. Mining can be considered earning once cashed out but again if you are mining enough above the tax threshold to declare then you would have quite a big set up and should probably get an accountant. But if you just run your PC a few hours a day you as a hobby then you wont be getting large enough returns to worry about and is an excellent way to get some coins without dipping into the bank account. Electricity costs aren't that bad, just a few cents to every dollar and there are plenty of online calculators to compare how much power your GPU will draw. And as for energy from the whole industry, yeah I get that but plenty of other things pull more energy. There are some apps/exchanges that don't require a lot of info but yeah the KYC requirements of Coinbase and the like does feel intimidating, pretty sure stuff like that will become more normal for most exchanges. It is a legit system though, same as they use for traditional stock markets. All depends on what you actually want to do I guess. Look at them cardanoes fly New ATH today.

Yeah, I don't want to mine myself. I just meant the ethical side. Bitcoin mining for example uses as much as a small country's worth of electricity per year.
I'd heard there were crypto currencies that were somehow more environmentally friendly but not sure if that's true.
I like the "digital cash" aspect of it though. What happened with Onlyfans will only encourage cryptocurrency. I don't use the platform but I support the user's rights and am not impressed with financial platform censorship.

I get the idea, it´s a nice soundbite but worldwide gaming usage is just as bad if not worse and that is just one example. Don´t see many people willing to switch their telly´s and consoles off though, myself included. Not saying it´s great for the environment but it´s all relative.
There are a lot of cryptos out there and they all work in different ways, there are certainly a few that claim to be green and many don´t rely on mining at all. Also greener ways of mining using hdds and wireless networks are emerging. A little research can find you a ´green´ coin or token.
I had to google the only fans kerfuffle, but yeah another benefit of a decentralised system. I guess they´ll reign it all in eventually but right now not so much.

Not gonna lie I think NFTs are pretty cool though They are in a 'psychological experiment to see how stupid people who think they are smart are' kind of way. The whole thing feels like a PsyOp.

Got a bit in Cardano too, got in at 50 USA cents, so not too bad.
I don't understand these NFT things. Seen somebody bought a jpeg of a rock for half a million or some absolute nonsense.

I don't understand that Visa thing. They say they bought just one, but when you click on the logs the owner has another 224 of them.

It looks like the wallet that bought the NFT then transferred it to the one with a couple hundred which is called Wrapped Cryptopunks Escrow, who then wrapped it and unwrapped it, sent to another wallet who then sent it to a third wallet before sending it back to the Escrow account. So I assume it works similar to a normal escrow while all legalities are sorted, perhaps.
Also, I wouldn't worry about Safemoon or it's wallet. It's a crappy token.

Bitcoin dumps 10k in a matter of hours
I did actually get lucky and I shorted using margin on Binance and made almost a grand. I tried to cash out most of it but withdrawals weren't working so I sent it to my Coinbase account, unfortunately I used the BEP20 network which is unsupported by Coinbase so that money's lost. A lot of people have unwittingly made the same mistake and Binance's and Coinbase's response is to shrug.
I mean, I take a lot of the blame for using cowboy exchanges and it's money I didn't have 2 days ago but it's still a gut punch.
And it's a warning for everyone, do not use the BEP20 network when withdrawing anything from Binance unless it is to a custodial wallet, use ERC20 - learn from my stupidity. Better yet, don't use Binance at all, I'd be surprised if it's around in a few years.

Its a confidence trick. The only good thing to come out of them are 'stars' of memes finally managing to make some money from them.

It'll be interesting to see what effects the Evergrande collapse will have on crypto, as Tether may be majorly exposed to any fallout from that. They've been very secretive to who they've been lending to with the rumours being they've helped keep Chinese developers afloat through corporate debt issuances.

The functionality and usefulness of NFTs are going to eventually extend way beyond artwork and memes. Their usefulness as smart contracts and proof of ownership will eventually be where most transactions are held.
That said anyone want to buy a list of imaginary RPG loot? I got 2.
