Damn only just got the email to collect from currys. Assumed it just wasn't coming today. Will have to get it tomorrow now. Been watching some xenoblade catch ups as this is my first one and the story seems insane haha. Glad I watched, good to have a rough idea of what occurred before Having a watch of a story catch up as well and fuck me, I'm glad I didn't buy 2 in the end.

Sat in the car earlier for an hour and a half waiting for my missus to sort out a prescription from our useless local pharmacy. An hour and a half of patchy network coverage, limited CDs and only radio 1 to listen to...
One of those times I really wish I'd brought my bloody switch with me.

7 hours in. Still on the fence. The story is pretty good for a game (I still think narratives in games are nowhere close to being cracked relative to film or books - this is a progression leap at this stage of artistic and hardware excellence that I feel should be considered as real progress, not just more terraflops etc.) Cut scenes are long sometimes which isn't surprising. Some of the battle cut-scenes are great. The combat is ok but rather passive; getting steadily more interesting. I'm up to the point you get 6 controllable members . Controls are fine. I don't have pro-controller and I'm sure it would feel less janky if I did. The same dialogue after and during every fight is getting tiresome. Also, anyone know how you clear out finished quests or even complete the 'collectable' ones? I accept them and they just remain as acceptable.

MysteryLambI'm about 4 hours in and the story has surprised me, especially for a JRPG. I switched to Japanese diaglogue after an hour. A manga waifu with an Essex accent was too weird. I think the collectible quests are just repeatables, I spammed loads of them for the extra rep and they're still available. Regular quests get a tick once you've done them.

Christ, can you still not turn off the battle voices? I gradually quit X in the end as it was testing my sanity.

Does it still not have subs for battle voices in this? It kind of annoyed me with XC2, but I ended up switching to Japanese because the regional accents did my head in. Think I'll do the same in this when I eventually get around to starting it.

There's no subs in battle although I haven't checked for an option yet
I'm hoping that recent events are leading to a bit more depth in the combat. It's been a very straightforward affair so far

XC2 combat was actually crazy complicated if you got into min maxing, although you can do 99% of your first playthrough just smashing buttons, would guess 3 to be similar.

THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT The best part of the battle voices was always your party chewing you out for engaging something at too high a level "Are you nuts?!" "You trying to get us killed?!" Guys I just fat-fingered it, shut up! Then there's Dunban that just doesn't give a damn, "I am Dunban! Attack me, if you dare!"

So... for people who have played Xenoblade 2 and past the first few hours of this. Is Vandham the same guy in both games? Originally I thought "oh that's a cute callback, there's another Aussie guy named Vandham". But they also look and sound the same. Same scars on the face, same hairdo, I think the same voice.
But it's weird, because... well... they both die. But maybe that will be a reveal later on or something.

Only a few minutes in, but whoever keeps saying "HAVE IT!" can fuck right off...
One of the nicest looking switch games I've played... Almost feels like witchcraft that they even got this running on it.

I think the first area looks a bit dull. But yeah, eventually you get your Gaur Plains moment with the lovely music and such.

Yeah, the battle area and cut scenes looked great, then it gets a bit bland.
Neighbour just walked past and looked in my window during the bath scene... Awkward!

Bloody hell, they like a lengthy cutscene every now and again... Probably not a good choice of game for a commute. I'm loving it so far anyway.
25 hours is some serious dedication... Fair play!

Not quite managed 25 hours in 2, but managed about 10-12. Reached chapter 3 and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Starting to get the rhythm of the combat and there are a few interesting quirks to it. I do find that the abilities being tied into auto-attacks means I'm spending quite a lot of time not actually doing much, whilst waiting for the abilities to be ready. Particularly true against basic enemies. That is changing now that I have been able to get passive abilities to have my ability in the X position to be ready at the start of combat. I assume that there will be other ones that will let me start with other abilities too.
Side missions seem to be a little more involved than in the first game, at least the framing of them. The ones that are about collecting items don't give you much direction, which is a bit of a pain, as some can only be collected from certain salvage locations. Still, seem more engaging.
Story is interesting so far. Going in completely blind, I loved the opening bit with Rex diving and the general idea of the titans and everything covered in a cloudy ocean. The idea of blades is also quite cool. Rex is your fairly standed animé hero character, which is mostly ok, but I like Nia and interested to find out more about her. Pyra is a bit of a nothing beside the central mission, but that is interesting enough so far. Tora is a nopon, but may even be slightly more annoying than Riki. I actually didn't mind Riki too much, but Tora probably won't stay in my party for much longer than he needs to. I will particularly avoid opening chests with him to avoid the chest opening song.
Overall, seems really good so far.

I assume that there will be other ones that will let me start with other abilities too. There will be, far as I can remember every character can eventually start battles with all their arts ready to go. You can also nudge the control stick after every auto-attack to repeatedly do the first hit of a character's auto combo for faster hits and there's multiple skills/equipment and other tricks to reduce charge time as well.

Came downstairs yesterday morning to feed the dog and there was a copy of this waiting next to the TV as a 'well done' from the missus (recent promotion)!
I'd start it straight away if I wasn't deep into RDR2. Major first world problems here.

You can get three loads of resources in the game by tapping any amiibo if you open the menu. Resets every day.
No idea if it's a useful amount or not, but it creates quite a satisfying loot shower when you close the menu.

How's everyone finding the soundtrack?
The reviews were incredibly effusive about this aspect and the soundtrack to XC1 is an all-timer for me.

I can't immediately recall where I heard - I think it was in a boss fight somewhere in chapter 2 - but a riff from XC1 came back through for a couple of bars, and it was fantastic. I also feel like the zone themes rhyme with similar environs from both games. Top stuff so far!

They're going hard and fast with the references right off the bat, huh? Colony 9 looks like a repurposed Metal Face, the cover had what looked like the Indol Titan's head and the Mechonis' Sword on it... Two things I noticed immediately: fighting a crowd is a big issue early on and accessories make a big difference! I got smoked by a Unique Bunnit and its entourage almost immediately... Then I found an accessory for 60% more damage to land creatures and managed to engage a bit further off so that not all of them came to fight and it was night and day On that note, make sure to fill your Collectopaedia cards at least once. From the second time on it's just some Exp. and reputation, but the items you get the first time are good (I'm pretty sure that 60% land creature damage accessory came from that, for instance)
