How's everyone finding the soundtrack? The reviews were incredibly effusive about this aspect and the soundtrack to XC1 is an all-timer for me. The few tracks I've heard so far are great. It's only been 2-3 hours so they haven't had time to become true earworms just yet, but I can see it happening

They're going hard and fast with the references right off the bat, huh? Colony 9 looks like a repurposed Metal Face, the cover had what looked like the Indol Titan's head and the Mechonis' Sword on it... Two things I noticed immediately: fighting a crowd is a big issue early on and accessories make a big difference! I got smoked by a Unique Bunnit and its entourage almost immediately... Then I found an accessory for 60% more damage to land creatures and managed to engage a bit further off so that not all of them came to fight and it was night and day On that note, make sure to fill your Collectopaedia cards at least once. From the second time on it's just some Exp. and reputation, but the items you get the first time are good (I'm pretty sure that 60% land creature damage accessory came from that, for instance) Are you using up on the d-pad to taunt individuals out of groups?

I tried finding that because I remembered that being a thing, it might be so early that I haven't got the tutorial for it yet There's a good few things that exist but I haven't had the tutorials for yet, actually. Going directly to the map rather than going through the menu, for instance. Early days, innit, I've barely started the first proper mission...

It's a very slow drip feed of systems. I must have been 15 hours in before it felt like I had been let off the leash.
That's no bad thing in some ways, there's still elements of combat that I have NFC about and haven't bothered to revisit the tutorial.

I had the Blushy-Crushy heart to heart last night (again this is 2 not 3). Wow, Tora really is a creepy fur-ball.

Yeah, I've only just got the tutorial for taunting single enemies to draw them away. Would've saved my bacon a few times if I'd known it! Thankfully got to the end of the really cutscene heavy bit when they all group up , so in a prime place for playing on the commute now.

I'm not sure how I feel about the collectopedia thing.
On the one hand, it's nice that they've streamlined the bullshit "collect X knick-knacks for me" quests that plagued the previous games, to the point where you're literally just accepting and completing the things from a menu.
But like... they're still there. It's like the devs realised how much of a meaningless time-waster the quests were, but didn't have anything meaningful to replace them with. And just decided to lampshade it and hide it in a menu.

English. Normally I choose Japanese for JRPGs, but I do love the English accents they put into Xenoblade.

Ah if the localisation is good I'll stick with it, normally like the Japanese audio myself but worried I'll miss out.
So this is my first dabble into the xenoblade series. The opening had me completly hooked. The tone reminded me of thr Andrew garfield film "never let me go" an odd link but it's the first thing that came into my head.
Well worth checking out if you haven't seen it.

I've switched back and forth a few times. Mostly English for the first 6 hours but think I've settled on Japanese now. Most of the accents are fine, but some of them really grate for some reason, and the repetitive battle dialog especially does! I tend to miss some of the dialogue when in the open world, though. And not everything is subtitled...
It annoyed me with XC2, too. I could never seem to find a happy balance.

Starting with English and going to see how grating Essex-girl's voice gets, can't be more annoying than Rex's vaguely northern monotone, right?

Always love to hear actual Brit voices in games, so I stick with the localised version. Despite the repetative battle chat, they are pretty nuanced.

Both Xenoblade and Dragon Quest have won me over with British accents in games. I think I prefer British subtitles, like with all the DS Dragon Quest games, but the voice overs are great too.
'Reyn Time' would have been painful to hear on repeat if it were said in an American accent.

Tempted to start the first game next week. Bought the first 2 recently while they were on sale (had the first on the Wii but never actually played it).

Alright, so this Mwamba lad... Death flags up the arse or what?? "Next month's my Homecoming" this and "After this op is over I'll put in a transfer to the salvage team" that... Doesn't get much more blatant than this "two months away from retirement" stuff, I'm just waiting to see how it happens (or be pleasantly surprised, idk)

Just found auto-battle. This thing is great. Only works on trash, so you still have to take on the real fights that are worth something. - on the pad to trigger it in battle.

Did anyone else find Mio's voice oddly familiar? Because something about it got me thinking and, well... (I see no real reason to spoiler tag this, but I also see no reason not to, so...)

"Okay, battle system seems nice so far. My characters seem to be stuck at class rank 10, but I'm only in Chapter 2, so..." "You can mix and match character classes, arts and skills, fuse arts together, also you can switch between characters in battle and there's quests to rank up your classes more" ...Oh. So yeah, it's ramping up now I'll hazard a guess that there's far more classes to find than the initial ones, too, so that is a lot of combinations...

Finally got around to playing this, only 4 hours in, I don't remember xc2 being this cut scene heavy or hand holdy. In the first open area you haven't even unlocked focus attacks, which was awkward.

Haha, yeah it seems quite simple at first. They really drip feed most stuff, apart from a few moments that are more of a deluge of information... I'm just working on getting the classes you first switch to ranked up to 10 and will start experimenting with combinations then.
While I appreciate some of the tutorials, they could've don't with a lot less of them and the pause before you can continue at each step starts to grate...

I love how the first comment on the Unique Monster theme on YouTube is "The theme of getting your ass kicked by a level 5 bunny because you thought being a Xenoblade veteran made things easier"... Bastard got all of us

Gave it 13 hours+ and got a way into chapter 3 but I'm trading in tomorrow I think. I'm not enjoying the combat mainly.
I liked XC1 a lot, didn't play 2, this one is just too narrative heavy and too easy combined with pretty uninspired environments I don't want to explore. Playing on normal I haven't been beaten once (came close once admittedly during the end of chapter 2) and I'm watching YouTube during battles. Yes I could bump up to hard but I just don't want to.
It's not you Xeno, it's me.
