Try going into the controller settings and changing all the different passing assists to semi instead of assisted. Feels like you've got more control over passing and crossing and it stops it picking the wrong player all the time. Oh DEFINITELY do this, and manual through balls if you can. |

Don't love the defending but I can tolerate it and I'm not sure the AI does a brilliant job of making runs for you when you are on the ball. Still a a bit floaty as well. The commentary is absolutely dire though, im playing my career as Man United and I'm going to have to sell Bruno because the commentator keeps pronouncing his name as Fernange and it's doing my nut in. Considering picking up the pc version as the framerate should be a bit nicer as well. As weird as it sounds, I've heard Bruno pronounce it that way. |

It could be right but it's weird as nobody calls him that, same with calling KDB De Brainer.
Why did they get rid of the old commentators, they aren't perfect but there was a certain familiarity with it.

Aye, I did have a game with City last night. He's an absolute monster in it, seemed to muscle every defender out of anything.
Trial nearly up, temped to pull the trigger on it.

The Derek commentator has been in the last 3 games, with his bloody Fernanch. I think it was 2021 he actually had two different names for Bruno, the other being Fernandish.
I think there's a youtube video of him explaining it. It is really crap though.

Main tip I would give for defending is just don't use the X button at all (or whatever the bottom button is on Xbox). All it does is take control away from you. Jockey all the time, and think more about how you would defend in a real game, getting yourself on the right place to cover angles, looking for interceptions or blocking passes and shots. If an opportunity comes to nick the ball stick your foot in but it's more important to keep your shape and keep them out of dangerous areas. Have been trying some of this and when it works, it's very good indeed but it still seems to easy to get turned and then they're away, with the AI doing very little to help in terms of shape. It also doesn't help that there seems to be a 1-2 sec delay from defenders (and seemingly only defenders) actually sprinting. |

Yeah, it's decent advice, cheers (muscle memory's a bastard, mind lol). Having much more joy using the L2 jockey now. Silly question, but is it fine to be sprinting (R2) and jockeying (L2) at the same time? Or should you really not try sprinting, unless you're obviously trying to keep up with a runner?

Yeah you can jockey and run at the same time. You can fine tune the speed with the triggers too.
Biggest thing for me was learning to not over commit, just keep backing off and stay between the goal and them or push them wide.

I've put jockey on one of the underside bumpers now along with 2nd player press. It's much easier having them down there as sometimes while defending you are using 4 buttons at once, sprint, jockey, 2nd player press and tackle.

His explanation is basically that he speaks more languages than anybody else ever and pronounces the names correctly for the player's native language because its really important culturally to do so and that anyone who doesn't like it is an uneducated pleb. I looked it up cos he's on 22 and I don't like it. |

The pad sounds are atrocious, like something out of a shovelware game for the Wii.
AI games feel genuinely quite good to me in this which astonishes me having tried and tried with these games for like 15 years. Still some wonky physics and the usual rubber banding nonsense from time to time, but it's mostly enjoyable games I'm having.

Haven’t played FIFA in a few years, but just trying out a friendly now (after around 27 different menus to get there). Why are there crosshairs, lines and controller prompts all over the screen? This is mental. I’ve switched off everything I can find in the settings and it won’t leave me alone.

I won 6-4. Certainly seems like FIFA. Is there a setting that makes the ball a bit less balloon like? Shots seem to lazily glide through the air on whatever the default is.

Yeah I'm scoring some mint goals in this. It's almost as if allowing players to pull off shit they are intending to do is a satisfying gameplay loop, rather than fudging the AI so it's telepathic 99% of the time.
Lot more fluid the other way too. They've scored some quality goals against me on world class.
