I play a LOT of FIFA (sorry, EA FC) and I've never been more convinced about match fixing (DDA/Scripting, whatever you want to call it) as I was yesterday.
I'm stuck playing Ultimate Team this year, despite swearing off of it several years ago because it generally makes me so bloody angry. The problem is, aside from Clubs, my main mode is Coop Seasons and even though we now have cross-play there just aren't enough people playing it this year. Those that are seem to be a thousand miles away, making for laggy games.
So we're stuck with Ultimate Team, the sweatiest of all modes.
Great, well at least that solves the problem of everyone playing as Real Madrid. Thing is, everyone just plays whatever meta is popular on YouTube that week. It's so far removed from football to be unrecognisable. It's a ratty dribble-fest with everyone using the same handful of cards due to max top speed and dribble stats.
So to yesterday. I need one more win to get the Rivals weekly bonus. Until that point I'd been cruising with the odd defeat. "1 more win" took about 15 attempts and I'm not too proud to say that half of those saw me rage quitting after 3 nil down in the first half. My players could not string 2 passes together. My shots were hitting the bar (or corner flag!) and I had about 4 pens go against me.
Hateful, hateful game.
I eventually got the W on my last attempt at midnight last night. 1 nil after 20 mins and the guy quit. I guess he was having a bad run of it too.

I played UT to death in the last 3 games, and ended up with unreal teams with the likes of Pele and Ronaldinho by the end of the game.
But I am skipping this one. Partly due to burnout, but mostly because the game is just too frustrating, and it looks exactly the same from watching videos.
Constant bugs and glitches, which have been unfixed for about 5 years, a complete joke of a company. The awful servers, which crash and lose you games you really needed to win in Champs. Constant shit goals, the worst is that nearly every save = a rebound goal. Many ways to exploit, over the top powershots going in from any angle and distance. Rainbow flick powershots, corner glitches, etc, etc. Scummy community that EA continue to turn a blind eye too. The claim that giving you a win when an opponent quits is open to exploitation is nonsense. But people quitting when you hit a 90th minute equaliser, or get a 90th minute penalty, or they get a red card, etc, etc just cancels the game and you get NOTHING from your wasted 30 minutes, is one of the worst things in gaming.

Hard agree on all points. Have given it a miss too and don't miss it. Which is sad really as I love love football games. But EA and Konami have shat the bed.

I still play the odd game vs the AI. It holds enough enjoyment for a few games here and there. But yeah pretty much scripting ruins it and doesn’t feel like a game of chess that PES did.

For Sunday night gaming with friends, clubs is still our go to. Seems like there’s more exploits than last year, particularly in the higher divisions. For coop gaming with mates though, we’ve not found anything that comes close.
Everything else though…meh

PES was elite for local co-op play. Every goal felt organic and earned. Am sad.

Yeah FIFA has never felt as good as pes when it was at its best. It's crazy they can't create a football game that feels as good as ones from years past.

Just put out PES5/6 reskinned. That would be amazing. So who cares there's no [insert star here]

PES was elite for local co-op play. Every goal felt organic and earned. Am sad. I regularly brought in my PS2 when I was on late shifts and weekend cover in the office I worked at 20 years ago. Getting a quick game in on a break against someone next to you can't be beat. We even played the 5 random team rule. You had 5 hits of Random Team, if you didn't select any of your first 4 picks, you had to deal on the last 5th pick. But yeah, hardly played EA FC this season, I've not had the hooks in, and also COD BLOPS 6 is giving me the wholesome grind instead.

I know it’s not as simple as this - but if they used that base game and swazzed up the graphics just a little, surely that’s a licence to print money? There’s talk of Take Two/2k (yeah I know) doing a fifa game…hopefully that shakes things up

Yeah I would certainly give a 2K game a try. I know they are a fan of scummy microtransactions as much as EA are, but just to try a game that isn't the game that's felt the same for like 10 years, would be something.
PES 5 was the pinnacle for me. Henry on the box in the cranberry shirt lol. Was just a perfect blend of fun, but still close to feeling like a proper football simulation.

I'm not entirely sure why they kept meddling with the gameplay on PES. It was perfect around that time. Just enhance Master League a bit more. Some online modes if you want.

There was no better feeling than Park Chu Young scoring a free kick from miles out.
