Sorry brainfart. I meant Fallout 5 Ha, I didn't even realise myself. I also meant 5 Lol. But yeah they announced it would be their next game after Elder Scrolls 6 which has just entered pre production and that'll probably be released near the end of the decade.

Title change is appreciated, but mine was just as accurate. And sexier. Besides, people like arguing with me even when they know I'm already holding a full house.

You haven't got a title so it'll be that first

I think AAA games look good enough, and are more than big enough. It feels like massive graphical advances have kind of plateaued tbh, so I'm fine with this "downsize" or whatever it is.

What the fuck does AAA mean anyway. Shouldn't we be at 4 or more A's by now.

So far Forza Horizon 4&5, Uncharted 4 and Sifu have really wowed me. Two of those are just upgrades/remasters but really it's the same or actually better game situation as it was the same time last generation. Early doors Xbone I had Shadow of Mordor and GTAV and that was it until delayed MCC turned up. Forza 5 and COD Ghosts sucked. I remember last gen being even slower for "omg this is awesome" games, of any kind.
Maybe it's a perception thing, like coming out of lockdown we're impatient for more new experiences to blow us away.
I can wait for whatever's new coming next. I'm kind of intending to spend less time gaming anyway. I went dual console as I had money burning a hole, retail therapy helped, lockdown sucked, and I had serious FOMO.

Eh I think it's going through a consolidation / annoying as fuck period. Like the late 90s / early 00s or whatever happened around 2010. But none of them were crashes or recessions like the 83 one. Various companies shovelling out the same thing again vanished, genres suddenly became unpopular etc. But the industry itself kept growing in aggregate.
Also the last few actual recessions haven't really tended general consumer confidence in buying video games. The 90s one coincides with the Mega-Drive/SNES craze and the 2008 one barely put a pause on the industry.

We're at the "big budget Dead Space clones everywhere " phase of the great video game crash.

A good example being Warcraft subscriptions, player growth stalled completely in 2008 despite a massive amount of marketing (remember the ones on TV with the mini me guy and so on) as well as a big expansion being released. Overall though, game sales in general tend to rise. kotaku.com/world-of-warcraft-no-growth-since-2008-453110340

The games I’ve played most in the last 12 years have been Minecraft and Stardew Valley.
I’ve probably spent the most money on Resident Evil 4 (having owned it on maybe 5 platforms?) and most AAA titles I buy when drastically reduced, or finish quickly enough to trade back in at a high price, to buy digitally later if they’re even good.
Notably, most of the games I’m even anticipating are just refreshes of games I already have, to use the power of the new consoles and TVs.
I’ll probably buy Callisto Protocol but that’s all I can think of on the horizon that’s not a remake.

There’s certainly a shortage of good single player FPS games. Eh, what? I have at least two dozen FPS' on my steamlist that look fairly promising. I guess it depends on what you mean by "good", but off the top of my head there are Selaco, Blood West, Witchfire, Trepang 2, Atomic Heart, Brutal Fate etc.

I don't think it's even got much to do with dev costs. It's just the need for more and more profit Yep, this is the reason the current flavour of global capitalism is unsustainable, thank Crom

Maybe they’ll be great but that’s a big maybe. You also didn’t mention any that have actually been released.

If you look at the graph here 2008 didn't dent the growth of the industry at all: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_industry#EconomicsWeirdly neither did the 90s one which is generally 90-91 (USA) 90-93 (UK) and varying levels in between. But it did drop in 94-95 until PlayStation took over. Fag end of the 16 bit generation I presume.
