I have no idea what your point is then!

I have no idea what your point is then! That even within said two decades there have been very well-received Final Fantasies people might consider better than this one? Of course it's mostly if not completely subjective, but "this is the best it's been for decades" is a pretty bold statement is all

I concur, only 8 hours in and it’s already the best FF in 2 decades (because the last good one was 9)

That fucking frog mini game. Spent about half an hour yesterday trying to make it to 1 min 20 s. Please tell me there isn't a trophy for it.

Spent a few hours in the virtual reality battle arena thingy that the chap introduces you to at the Ranch. Helped me massively learning the battle system in more depth. There is a lot going on during a battle.

It really is that good. The further I get into it - well, first of all I think their vision of a three parter is completely justified now - but I'm still surprised by the breadth and depth of it all and the level of quality it maintains. Everything is so well designed. Never in my wildest dreams did I think they would go this large

Don't think there is another game that can get the level of expansion and budget that this remake gets other than I guess something like FF6.

You think that we'll see a compilation rerelease of all three parts in a few years on the PS6 or something, based on the reception? Or would it be too big? I'm thinking it's almost inevitable they Kingdom Hearts ReMix it, considering how well both parts seem to have done so far, but at this rate it might need multiple disks

I'd definitely take a single FFVII Remake Trilogy release on PS6. But the big question - will that preclude a physical release?

Interesting to read the wildly fluctuating opinions on this since release. Reviews were all stellar but these last few days I've seen a fair few comments and articles criticizing the game - particularly the length, padding and ending. Wish I had a PS5 so I could play it

Don't think there is another game that can get the level of expansion and budget that this remake gets other than I guess something like FF6. Indeed. The thing is, I always agreed with SE in that a modern take on the classic FF formula would be unfeasibly ginormous (as exemplified by this game I guess), but in addition SE have struggled with the larger scope single player FF games in general for quite a long time. I know that XII, XIII and XV have their fans (I actually love XV) but there's no denying the reduced scope in terms of world building compared to the golden era. I always thought it was partly a project management problem over there. So it's really pleasantly surprising to find they not only attempted but seemingly have pulled off something so huge without cutting any corners*. It's got to be something to do with them finally embracing Unreal Engine rather than building their own from scratch right? * I'm aware of the occasional low texture quality, but I'm assuming this is a technical limitation

Wish I had a PS5 so I could play it I can't speak to the ending yet, but as someone who agreed that VII Remake and XVI had too much padding, this is striking a much better balance despite being significantly bigger than both. I'm not getting frustrated at all. I've always thought FF was like Star Wars - a lot of its biggest fans seem to actively hate on it

Yeah, since I've been reading opinions on forums.. every new FF seems to be polarising.

I’d imagine it’s because a large proportion are fans because of the classic run of games from 6-10, and are just a bit fed up with all the new ones being a bit toss.

It is the best game since Elden Ring. Amazing world building, fantastic graphics, deep mechanics and masses to do. Totally fantastic.

Still in Junon, not sure why but I'm determined to clear as much of the map before I move on with the story.

I haven’t even crossed the Marshlands on the Chocobos yet. I can’t stop tinkering about in the Grasslands.

I think I did all I can do in the grasslands for now. Just reached the end of the mines, absolutely loving this

The mythril mines were a real treat. The dungeon level design and the side content are both unbelievably improved over part 1.
I'm actually finding the pace of this to be perfect. It's long for sure, and may yet prove to be overly long by the end, but the mix of content and the pacing from one type to the other is spot on for me.
Just as you've had enough of side questing there is a stretch of dungeon crawling, then a town, then a set piece, then a minigame...

I do have one minor complaint though... Corel Prison is a bit bouncy and lively and happy and nowhere near bleak enough. Some NPCs even seem to be there by choice. I had the same complaint about some of the Midgar slums in part one. I'm fairly certain that the decision was made due to that whole section of the game needing to let up from being so dreary, and maybe that's the correct decision, but still

In case anyone was still holding out hope that the remake trilogy would come to Xbox or Switch at some point:
EDIT: Or not...

Finally done in the Grasslands so moving on. Two small things to mop up but I don’t think I can reach them right now. Really getting a handle on the battle system now. And it’s great.

I really hope Chadley gets eaten by a rabid chocobo.

I didn't mind Chadley that much in Remake, but he is WAY too prominent in Rebirth. And he won't shut up!

He’s the only character I smash O through the dialogue but the name amuses me. There’s a few of these proper engrish Bobson Dugnut names in this game

Actually LOL'd at a certain moment on the Junon ship. Was it Barret sadly singing the game over music after you beat him at QB?

Yeah the game can be really funny. Post Kalm, pre-grasslands spoiler: I genuinely laughed out loud at that one point where Barret asks where Cloud and Aerith have been and she half-jokingly says "we've been on a date!", to which Barret points at Cloud, Aerith and Tifa and says "don't run off on any more dates", then the camera points to the three of them where they nod hesitantly, then it cuts to Red XIII who also nods, taking it seriously, apparently thinking it included him.
