I can’t see it. I have my PS5 fixed on 1080p and the game looks great on performance mode.

Is having the PS5 in 1080p supposed to help then?

I actually found it unbearably blurry in performance mode. It was like my eyes weren’t focusing or something

I got VRR working again by restarting the game. Weirdly the option to force it on in unsupported games had switched itself off too - PS5 being weird I suppose.

The opening FMV was really choppy for me at first and turning off VRR helped. The game definitely seems to not like it. If so it’s the first incompatibility I’ve noticed with that setting

Done Junon. I avoided the demo so I don’t know if most people have already seen it, but man the nostalgia hit there was honestly bigger than being in Midgar for me

Still haven’t downloaded it yet, 2 days later. I switched off low power rest mode at the very start assuming that it wiukd download stuff in rest mode like it claimed, but no. I’ve now found the option to switch off going to rest mode entirely so fingers crossed that’s enough. Modern consoles are fucking bullshit, why can’t I just put the disc in and play it

Downloading in rest mode should work, heck we downloaded the Unicorn Overlord demo here just yesterday in rest mode, and all went well...

Are you saying it's fully installed and won't let you play? Sorry if I misunderstood but that seems weird.

From what I can deduce, the disc simply has a digital licence on it and downloads the data from the server - but when the ps5 goes into rest mode it puts the disc drive to sleep so pauses the download. The broadband here goes to shit when it rains, only getting 10mbits the last couple of days

That doesn't even make sense, why would it come on two discs??

Doesn’t make any sense other than for clout. Doesn’t make sense either to have a “data” disc you install first then have to copy the “play” disc to the HD before you can play

Without wanting to sound like an Xbot fanny, I bloody love how they let you queue any game up for download via the app, then when the disc arrives in the post you can just pop it and play without any installation needed.

Even better, on Switch, if you opt not to download a day one update, you’re good to go immediately.

10 hrs to get all the world Intel in the Grasslands. I have been thoroughly enjoying this even when I wouldnt in other games. But the world and characters plus the added budget thrown at it to be able to have different scenarios, with different gameplay with new music, voice acting etc means it doesn't feel as repetitive and so far the rewards seem worth it. Although I hope that's the last time we see Becks Badasses, like a comedy sketch that goes on far too long everytime.
One thing I'm not using is synergy skills. I just seem to forget and they don't seem overly effective other than some practicalities like getting Tifa launched into airborne enemies. Plus they don't contribute to the synergy abilities which are actually the big flashy highly damaging practical attacks. Will try and focus on it. But so far so good, just a big comfy RPG

You're definitely not correct about it just being a digital license - I was playing before it finished briefly. I don't think the fact the update didn't finish is stopping you from playing, you must be interrupting the install from the disc? Don't forget it has to install the play disc as well?

Thought I was pretty good but it's kicking my arse even on normal. One thing that really helped me was paying attention to what my various abilities actually do. Despite playing remake twice, I only just learned that the various "Focused" moves (Focused Thrust, Focused Shot etc.) are really good at building up stagger, especially when the enemy is pressured. EDIT: I put the focused moves for each character on the same shortcut, so I always quickly know what to press when the situation arises. Also, analyse everything. And remember that you can use the touchpad to read the analysis if it's an enemy type you have already scanned. Unlike remake, characters have access to various elemental abilities that you can use. Don't forget synergy skills! They might seem useless at first glance but they don't use any ATB, and also a lot of them can really fill a hole in your offence, e.g. Bullet Batter and it's equivalents make Cloud team with ranged allies and deflect stuff off his sword so that he's can do ranged damage.

I'm finding myself actually scrolling through the menu in battle more than a did in remake, rather than relying almost exclusively on shortcuts, mainly due to there being too much stuff but also the fact I'm taking my time to read what everything does is making me understand the game more.
I didn't have a clue how to power up my synergy abilities until I started doing this, then I spotted the icons in the move description.

It's on its way to being an absolute 10/10 banger for me.
This is the best that Final Fantasy has been for decades
